God! I finally had some free time and enough energy to watch another one of yours videos and JESUS my heart and my brain, I see what you did there!! It's magnificent, I can feel everything you thought while doing this, especially the "walking on a line 10 stories high" but the part that kills me, because of your understanding of the story and the depth of each character is "we fight every night for something" (alluding to Love of Life and the "won't we?" at last) followed by "when the sun sets we're both the same" which you could say it's about him and Nina (literally speaking if we're considering how he always had to dress up like her and even in that you could tell Urasawa was perpetuating and enhancing his lack of identity), but it could also be said about every other character in the show... just like in real life. At the end of the day, aren't we all the same? Not identical yet the same, half in the shadows, half burned in flames... And the darkness is the light, ah! Most people don't really acknowledge how the only way to be truly reborn (and even born for the very first time, biology aside) is to become ashes, destroy everything you are, throw yourself in the abysm of your soul, and then, just then, in true darkness, despair, when it seems like you'll perish, just then, will you know that that's power. That's the true light. And the beautiful crime he did for his sister, and the beautiful crimes we all do for someone or something we crave, want to protect, love, maybe an artifact, an idea, a concept, a person, an animal, nature... Even Tenma isn't entirely pure, at the end of the day noone truly is. What I can't describe is how much amaze you have inside you. You have excellent editing skills, but let me tell you, that's not what makes your projects the best I have ever seen; many people can edit, very very nicely, great effects, music and lyrics sync, colouring, transitions... but you understand. You look, you don't see. You make such good edits not because of your skill, but because of your heart, mind, and soul. You catch the meaning of not only the story that was told, but also what it wanted to tell and that's, captivating, a beautiful crime indeed that such artwork can be crafted in a mad world like ours! Another great video. I have been so busy and so fatigued of everything, when I find the time, space and strength again, I will rejoice with another one of your masterpieces!
Goodness...how do I begin to reply to such a wonderful, thoughtful and beautiful comment? First off, thank you so soooo much for being so supportive of my work and also leaving such heartfelt comments. These kinds of comments are the ones I look forward to and treasure the most! I want to explain to you how touched I am that you have truly AND GENUINELY perceived me through my work - because that is exactly what I edit with. I pour my heart and soul into my work. As a young child who lived in very hostile environments that forcefully stifled my emotions and ability to understand them, video editing was my own and only outlet for not only self expression, but healing too. Video editing helped me tell the world what was in my heart when words failed. As an adult now, that piece of my editing has not changed. And to witness another see the heart of my sleeve within my editing...really makes me so damn happy, relieved even. Reading your comment, made me feel so transparent - it was such an odd but jolly experience to be honest! Monster has moved me so much - and not like most for it's calloused and barbaric themes that people seem to cling to....but for the beauty and horrors that is of man; the tragedy and grace that is of our humanity. It helped me not only understand more about myself but to better myself as well. Monster forced me to question my own definition of morality. "When the sun sets we're both the same" for me depicts the notion that when you strip someone of the light, all they have left is the darkness - and this applies to even Tenma' which is why I showed him with Johan in one of the choruses. I also love how you tied in my editing from other amvs to depict what I was displaying in this one - you know what my mind is thinking and my heart is feeling when I edit. That is liberating to me. Thank you so so much. I will forever treasure this comment. I've pinned it. I look forward to your other wonderful comments and reactions to my amvs. I've been in such a bad place mentally that it has affected my inspiration to edit...but I feel inspired to try again. Tomorrow I will begin!! Thank you my friend. p.s. please get plenty of rest and take care of yourself okay?
@@xPrincessGarnetXVI I almost never comment, and this time I wasn't going to because I also didn't know how haha but hey! It really warms my heart to know you embrace my words, despite them not being enough to express how I think and feel. I don't know what to say, I would say I'm sorry you had to went through, as I did too and perhaps that's why we understand each other so well, yet I don't like feeling sorry or pitiful for someone's troubled past and traumatic experiences; rather I want to encourage you, people like you who are broken, and their attempt to fix themselves shines through their art. What hurt you, is your strength, and I'm sure you know that and that's what keeps us going after all. And most of all... I get it exactly. To encounter someone who can see through the wall you build to protect yourself, that's what I see in your artwork: a cry, not for help, but as a sign of liberating yourself to achieve peace of mind, where silence is not linked to emptiness, but instead a flooded and what seems to be, hopeless, wrestling, restless mind. At the end of the day it is true: when darkness comes, we are all monsters, aren't we? Even the most righteous, unwavering, and resilient people have a hollow pit, a void that calls for them when the time comes. Monster left a mark in me, too, it's too real, and maybe that's why we love it so much and others may hate it for that too. To watch you depict what's above us all, not only what's in front, is very relieving as well. It means our time, effort and bittersweet lonely journey is not for nothing, or that's what we choose to believe! And yes! Honestly that part made my spine chill, mostly because of Tenma's impotent, yet adamant facial expression; so much conviction, but so much uncertainty at the same time. Keep going if you feel like it. At the end of the day, whatever decision you make, will not erase the beautiful memories and pieces you have portrayed, just like Urasawa said: every human being leaves a trace, that might or might not be forgotten, but it will always be there. Thank you, too, I'm not the best at taking care of myself! But I will try^^ Oh, and 2:31 is the part I keep replaying with Tenma's angry and desperate face along with 3:46 with Johan't stoic yet hurtful expression... I love the Nina side by side comparison between the monsters, since they're both monsters if we think about how Johan ate Nina's monster so she didn't become one? I hope I make myself clear; HOWEVER, that Tenma and Johan intertwined transition is beyond words.
This is the BEST edit for Monster, especially for Johan Liebert. The lyrics go perfectly well with each scene you’ve chosen. Such epic cinematic, splendid work! I can’t stop watching.
As strange as it sounds, I can imagine Johan running a flower shop after the events of Monster. This AMV felt really professional and emotional. Thanks for making this, it was wonderful.
Honestly that part where Anna reaches for johan and then then to the beat can't take it?... 100/10 This whole is timed so perfect and works with the meaning of the show its absolutely amazing. ❤❤❤❤
Funny enough, that part was a random spur of the moment clip placement and it actually carried a lot of weight in meaning after I reviewed it HAHA. So glad you called that out. You and my other friend was crushed by that lol. Thanks for viewing!
Okay first of all, i love this song. I am amazed how it fits every lyric with every scene. Beautiful crime fits Johans character but in a more emotional way, like its just about him. His life. No deep nihilist shit or philosophy. I loved this edit. 2:03 from this especially
Aye. Glad you found your way here. I'm going to assume you found it on the Monster subreddit? If so that was my post. But I'm glad you got that vibe from this edit cause that's exactly what I was going for; JUST JOHAN at his core. Nothing else.
I really liked the other monster beautiful crime amv (if you havent watched it i recommend to you to watch it) and when i see this one i was shocked. This was sooo good. mood is there like i can feel it. perfect scene selection. very well made
Hey! I watched the other one years after I made this one. I didn't initially find another amv with this song and Monster so I was happy to see someone else had the same idea as me.The song is perfect for the anime! Thank you!
Wow... I usually don't comment on UA-cam videos but I have to tell you you're very talented and this AMV is awesome. Perfect song and has great editing! Also, I read your essays and they really helped me understand this masterfully written story.
I have been waiting for this edit for 3 months. I had some thoughts about what will you do. But i have to say that i couldn't imagine anything like this amv. The tune of the background music, the words of the song and perfect details with perfect timing in the right moment. Perfect color choosing with atmospher of the video. And editing. Oh My GOD! That editing was just freaking INSANE! I couldn't even imagine anything like this video. It's in my top 5 now. The top 3 is collected from your videos of course :) You have a great talent please keep it up!
A beautiful edit as always depicting how Johan felt throughout the story. The cool antagonist is someone who's beloved by everyone but don't you think the nice protagonist is someone who should also be given credit in your AMVs.

I am glad there is someone who is trying to show the pain that Johan had to go through and had to harbour throughout his life. an excellent video.
I'm glad someone else out there cares about that aspect of him.
Holy hell.
This was such a Masterpiece.
The setting, the mood, the song, the build up right before the instrumental. STROKE OF GENIUS.
