The Best Stainless Steel Pan For Under $40 | Amazon Commerical Review

- Опубліковано 2 чер 2024
- In this video, I'm going to review the Amazon Commercial 3 Ply 8in and 10in Stainless Steel Skillet. I'll tell you why these are the best budget-friendly stainless steel skillets and how they stack up to All-Clad. I'll also talk about the differences between no ply, 3 ply, and 5 ply stainless steel pans and food-grade stainless steel. What makes a good stainless steel pan or skillet? For under $40, this may be worth considering.
UPDATE: since filming this video, Amazon has released a 12 inch 3 ply skillet for only $32. That’s incredible! amzn.to/3DSUYx3

Do you have a pan you would like me to review? Leave a comment below.
Added a comment...see it? for Anolon Advanced Hard Anodized Nonstick Frying Pan
@@BrigitteCoffman thank you for your recommendation. I’ll check it out for sure!
IKEA Sensuell?
I am looking at Kirkland 10 pc and Zest tri ply, stainless steel, 10 pc. that sells for only $140. Would value your opinion. Thanks.
@@larryellis2218 I actually just bought the Kirkland 5 ply copper core set and I’m doing a detailed review. The video should be up in a few weeks but so far I’m highly impressed. I was told about them from several chefs here in LA. They are known for being the choice set for chefs at home.
Got myself the 12 inch. Does not disappoint. Wished they have a whole cook set.
Never see a more detailed review in a pan!!
Thank you glad you enjoyed the video
Just FYI, Marshalls-TJ Maxx-Home Goods have Viking ,All Clad and other premium brand stainless cookware for about 35%-65% off retail
Great info, thanks for sharing!
Do t they usually end up there because they have defects? 🤔
Another great video! A lot of great info, and especially loved your B roll! I always look forward to your new videos. What's your opinion on 5 ply vs. 3 ply? Is it worth the price difference to get the All-Clad D5 pans for a home cook? Thanks! Also, Made-in has 18-10 stainless steel and is 5 ply, but is cheaper than All-Clad. Not sure about their warranty though.
For the home cook, I think the difference between a 3 ply and 5 ply won’t be noticeable. I would save and get a 3 ply. I’ve never tried Made-In but it sounds like a great deal. Thank you for watching! Stay tuned for more goodies including a stainless steel roasting pan just in time for the holidays. Happy Halloween!
Thanks for the review! By the time I saw this I was only able to find the 12". I need to learn to use stainless, I've tried in the past with very frustrating results and got rid of the stainless pans I had.
Hope you enjoy it!
Having watched a few of your vids, and as a keen amateur,I thought I’d give stainless steel a go. I actually bought this Amazon commercial 10” with no knowledge of this review at the time but it appeared to be good value. I’m so pleased to hear that I haven’t wasted my money. It only arrived last night, so I haven’t tried it yet.
Thanks for the great advice.
It’s a good pan. I think they have raised the prices on them since this review though. Happy cooking!
@@tomwadek do you still consider this pans to be worth it at the price point? The 10” is at 45 bucks currently and the all clad is $85
@@juanpineda5664 if the all clad is now at $85, get the all clad
THANK YOU for recommending this pan. I got the 12" a couple days ago and used it for the first time today. Seared A MESS of shrimp with no problem and the garlic cream sauce that was made in it was out of this world!!! BEST of all.....it cleaned up NO PROBLEM. THANKS AGAIN!
Awesome! Glad your enjoying your purchase! Sounds like your on your way to making some amazing dishes! Happy cooking!
@@tomwadek did you try the wok on the Weber?
@@jrdube Not yet but I’m planning to do it on Friday.
@@tomwadek I've heard of people walking on hot coals, but on a Weber is new to me. 😲
THANKS :) (I just got my first one today!)
thats wondeful!
Interesting video!
Can you review the cuisinart or misen next
Hey! I loved this video! Great work and that skillet looks good. Could you do an updated video post 1 year of use? That’s if you’ve still been using them! Thank you 🙏🏽
Hi, I’ve been using them in many of my new videos. Check them out. The pans works great
I just looked up the Misen Stainless Steel pans...then looked up the steel they are made of: 18/10. Could you review those? AMZN was selling the 12inch for $40 over Prime Days last week.
This is perfect. I don't own any stainless steel. I'm just getting into cooking seriously. I don't even know what the hell a three ply is but it sounds like it's good and I have some other Amazon stuff that I'm pretty impressed with like their tools for example...
Glad you enjoyed the video. It’s a great budget pan. Happy cooking
Thanks for the review, B roll was excellent and food looked great. Will purchase this in the UK now and will check out your other videos for tips on seasoning the pan as this will be my first SS pan.
If you have any tips for a newbies, please share… thanks
Thanks for watching. I’m glad you found it useful. I’m also doing a review on a great 5 ply copper core set by Costco. I’m still working on the review but if you can buy that, I highly recommend it. Happy cooking
@@tomwadek thanks for the reply. Just had a look on Costco uk and they don’t have that pan here currently. I’ve ordered the Amazon one I just hope it doesn’t stick. I bought some lodge cast iron pans and struggled to season them so gave up in the end 😩
Do I need to season the SS Amazon pan to prevent It from sticking on first use or do anything special to prep it? Thanks again
@@anonymous4201 ss is a more advanced kitchen tool. It takes some getting use to. It’s all about temperature control. I have several ss videos including a fundaments video. Check them out
@@tomwadek can you recommend a good thin metal spatula to go with my new pan?
Excellent videos - have just signed up!New to stainless - so decided to go with these to try. Unfortunately, here in the UK these are not available for over a month. However they do have used (very good) sets available. Would that be a big risk? I want to get going!
Ahh... In the UK this is a set of three 12, 10, 8 - for £50. It's describe as having a three ply base. Is that differen to what you reviewed?
I believe these pans have gone up significantly since making this video. If that is true, I would look at the cost difference between all clad and if it’s not too much, go with all clad. Sometimes Costco has a special.
@@tomwadek I think they have changed the design. These just have a clad base. Back to the drawing board!
Since I retired a few years back, I've tried cooking as a pastime, and having fun. Just like when I took up golf 50 years ago, you learn the craft, the tools and equipment along with technique, and I think cooking is similar. As I watch videos and listen to experts like you break it all down, it's so rewarding....but I digress. This is an old video. Amazon now offers a 3 piece set of their Commercial 3 ply SS skillet set; 8, 10 and 12 inch for $60! Before I order, tell me how to monetize YOU....hopefully you respond soon....I'm excited to get the set. Thanks....and I've subscribed as well.
Thank you for the kind words! I had no idea they now offer it in a set. Shoot over the link. I wanna double check that it’s still the same 3 ply construction.
@@tomwadek I just saw the set, it's 56 bucks, and it is stainless steel, but unfortunately it's not try-ply 😢
As of 12/20/2023 it is now $68.19 for JUST the 10-inch. Not quite as much of a no-brainer...
All of my stainless is 18/8. It has been used and abused, so much so that to had to spend hours to get all of the burnt on build up over 25 years of use off of them because I was tired of looking at it on my beautiful stainless cookware. That was cosmetic, and did not deter function in any way. They have lasted 25 years, and I fully expect to be dead before they wear out. I have zero issues with 18/8 stainless. These look like nice pans; if I was needing one, even at the tiny price bump these have gotten, I'd grab one in an instant.
Thank you for watching and sharing your experience. This pan has been holding up well and taking my abuse. I wish they didn’t price hike it though lol
Your video of a few weeks ago was very helpful to help me adjust from my beloved cast iron skillet to a stainless steel. I made eggs, of course first, no sticking. Last night was duck breast seared with hint of red wine too then briefly roasted, and a half dozen other dishes in between. Thanks for your informative videos.
That’s awesome! I love hearing that and so glad your enjoying your new purchase! The duck sounds delicious! Thanks for watching!
@@tomwadek such a mischievous daughter, I would have definitely spanked a younger one, but if 15 would have made her work off the price, imagine spending your money without your permission, and sending a package to your porch not knowing whether you'll be there or not, etc. You and your wife are awfully permissive....must be a generational thing
@@janicenunn8525 she’s only 15 months old
@@tomwadek sorry, thought you said 15 years, I should listen more closely if I'm going to comment! My bad.
Looking to start replacing a few "ship all banged up" pots and pans in my kitchen ie.. getting away from teflon. This AC tri-ply seems to fit the bill for the 12 inch I need. I wish they had this same quality in a few sizes of sauce pots. The one's they do have are just the Amazon basics, unless they're hiding because if you go to the Amazon Commercial store front you can't even find the skillet you're reviewing here.. there.
Darn, maybe the caught on or re-branded them. Sorry to hear.
I have both the 10 inch and the 8 inch, however my 8 inch has a nonstick coating on it. The handle for me personally I don't like on the 10 inch due to its weight. Definitely like both of them though.
Good to hear. Enjoy the pans. Have fun
I bought this pan due to your recommendation. It warped on 60% heat on the first try, luckily I was able to replace it and the second one hasn't warped (knock on wood) and it's been great, I could almost throw all my cast iron and carbon steel pans to the bin (almost). Could you compare this pan to Tramontina as they are quite similarly priced in some future video? I already placed an order for Tramontina, so I guess I'll see soon enough, but it would be interesting to hear your thoughts.
Sure, do you have a link to the pan. I can’t seem to find one. All I’ve found are sets
I got 2 warped ones in a row
Tramontina is better.
Loved your reviews, as I am All-Clad owner, and love all my *All-Clad* skillets! I totally agree with all you said. Great Tips! BTW: I am also a Landlord, and sometimes, I find cookware, in vacant apartments, after they moved out, If I have a forward address, I will contact them to pick them up. However, sometimes, people just SKIP OUT, and leave stuff. Mostly in a dirty sink. I am extremely picky via my cookware, so I usually don't take anything home left behind. However, a few years ago, I took home a 10" *Anolon* non-stick skillet. I am so in-love with it, I bought 2 more! I don't see that you have made a review on this brand. Do you mind sharing your thoughts? (I know it's not All-Clad, by a long shot, however a very well crafted skillet. I basically use it, when in a hurry, for fried eggs, grilling a sandwich, etc. *Anolon Advanced Hard Anodized Nonstick Frying Pan*
Thank you for the kind words. I’m glad you enjoyed the video. That sounds like a great find! I’m sure as a landlord, you probably have a lot of interesting stories and encounters. I read your other comment with the specific pan. I’ll check it out and I’ll keep up updated. Happy holidays!
Hi im looking at buying my first stainless steel set. I have narrowed it down to two. Would you go with the 7pc from goldilocks for $175 or the 10pc 3 ply from legand for $178?
sorry i dont have experience with either of those.
I've just got a table top electric hob. What do you recommend for a frying pan? I wanted a carbon steel however I've heard the electric hob can damage the pans.
This pan would be fine. It’s cheap enough to learn on and works great. Cast iron would be a good option too
@@tomwadek it's not yet available in 10 inches here in the UK. I'll have a look for an alternative I'll also have a look at the cast iron ones.
@@garyrobinson8665 I hear great things about “made in” not sure of the availability though
Amazon doesn't currently have the smaller version and the 12" is now $70. Do you have new recommendations for 3 ply ss skillets?
Wow the price has really jumped! At that price, I would get all clad d3
Can you please make a review video on tramontina 3ply clad stainless steel it's an 18/10. I really want to go all stainless steel but can not find any good reviews on this set.
Tramontina is a good brand. I have their nonstick aluminum pan.
18/8 is already surgical grade. Amway Queen Cookware is 18/8
Do you happen to know the thickness gauge 3mm or 2mm of the Amazon stainless steel pan ?
I just measured it and it’s around 2.5mm
@@tomwadek wow that’s pretty thick is it as thick as the all clad I think I read all clad thickness around 2.6 fit the d3 .
Thank you so much !
I purchased a very similar 10" pan (3-ply and 10/8, looks and feels substantial and good) made by Viking for $25 at TJMaxx. I washed it a couple times and when I dried with a paper towel grey residue showed up & seems to still be occurring. Anyone know about this, safe or dangerous, part of the manufacturing process or something leaching out that should not be? Any safe way to resolve this (even if it's benign, I still don't want a pan doing this) or should I just return it?
Is it rainbow heat stains? If so, it’s very common and completely normal with stainless steel. Even the most expensive pans do it. You can clean the pan and remove the rainbow stains that are usually caused by heat by adding a mixture of distilled white vinegar and water and lightly scrubbing it with the soft side of a sponge pad. You could also use bar keepers friend
@@tomwadek Tom, no I'm familiar with the rainbow thing, I'm lazy enough that I'm happy to live with that! This is a medium grey staining that seems to come onto white paper towel, (maybe a regular towel too except mine are blue and it likely is just camouflaged there) esp when there's been some heat and avocado oil applied. ?? and thanks so much for taking the time to reply!
@@sarahdee374 no problem. That’s strange. I’ve never had that before. Hopefully someone here can help.
@@tomwadek Hoping for that too! Has your little one ordered you any new surprises lately? I thought that was hilarious. Happy cooking!
@@sarahdee374 lol. Not since then. Yeah it took us by surprise too. Thanks for watching. Happy cooking!
I can’t find the 8” and 10” on Amazon. Do you know why?
They often sell out and then get reposted
The 12 is now 50 bucks, 10 is 42 and 8 is 32. I'd get misen over this as they can be had at 50 bucks too are 5 ply and 18/10.
Yeah I agree. These are no longer budget friendly 😂
Don't worry if only the inner layer is 18/10, rather you should worry if the outer layer is if you have induction, as generally 18/10 stainless steel is not magnetic, and 18/8 is little better.
Often you will find the outer layer being 18/0 which while not quite as 'stainless' or good for food, is very magnetic, since it is the level of nickel (the /x bit) which reduces how magnetic it is.
All I can say is that if your daughter can know what you need better than you at 18 months, I don't envy you as she gets older!
Lol, she made a good buy. I’m proud of her. Thanks for watching.
You all should now that Amazon have redone it, and it's not the same product as it was before. The biggest change is that they have change the handle for a much thiner one and it don't come with the thick base were the handle meet the pan. And they have rebrand it to Amazon basic.
Yeah, it’s not the same pan anymore sadly
i want to buy a set but now amazon sells them under the stone&beam brand
That’s sucks. I didn’t know they did that. Check out my Costco Kirkland review. Best set I ever bought. My favorite ss set
I just ordered one, it was warped when it arrived. I didn't even use it yet. I sent it back and got a replacement. The replacement was warped even worse than the first one. If you pour water in the center, it flows to the outside edge. Completely unusable on an induction cooktop
Sorry to hear that. I’ve also heard they have raised the price on these pan considerable. Mine have been holding up great. Maybe something has changed since this review.
@@tomwadek yeah its $52 now, which is still the chespest I can find a legit 3 ply stainless streel 12" pan anywhere
@@zachary_attackery if you can, at that price point, save an extra $50 or so and get an all clad. I sometimes see them on sale for $99
So only thing I noticed is no heat sink hole in the Handles on these pan's....Definitely a good price and Value otherwise by Amazon
That’s a great point. I’ve been impressed with the performance though. Thanks for watching
Price for the 8 in is now 24 dollars. Wish they were still under 20. Would be worth trying out under 20
I heard they were sold out for a while. Seems like they are getting popular
Okay it's been a year... how are you liking your amazon skillet now?
