Hi cool history bros, I just came from the zhang liang strategist archetype video, I was wondering if Zhou tong(周同) the teacher of Yue Fei, Lin Chong and Lu Junyi would be considered as the first "old badass teacher" archetype, if not, who would be considered as the first? P.S when you eventually do the yue fei video I think a good clickbait title would be "the Chinese yi sun-sin : yue fei"
Was the An-Shi Rebellion really a rebellion or was it an old fashioned civil war like so many in Chinese history? A civil war between Tang and Yan, maybe it should be called the War of Yan Independence instead??
14:00 Ah, that explains it, it is simply modern Mainland beauty standards. I actually rarely see reverse goose egg heads on women outside of modern "extreme beauty" things from the Mainland, even Hong Kong hasn't (thankfully) adopted this trend yet.
Again, thank you for this wonderful video! I'm very interested in history, so I've seen lots of history channels, but most of them talked about european history. You're the only history channel that talks mainly about East Asia, and as a Korean, your videos are very enjoyable. Not nationalistic, humorous, informative, and high quality. But I do have a doubt for this video. At 0:00, it's shown that manchuria, in the year 717 is occupied by Tang dynasty, but as I know, there was Balhae ruling in Manchuria during that time. The kingdom was founded in the year 698. Could you confirm if you made a mistake? Also, it would be great if you mention it in the comment section.
Hey, man. When you question other's statements, it should be you to provide evidence to support your own argument, instead of others. Also, they have discussed Balhae in their previous videos in detail.
@@YL-nx3yk But Y L, I have indeed provided an incontestable information that Balhae existed in the year 717. The kingdom was founded in 698 and fell apart in 926. So it would be wrong to mark Manchuria as Tang dynasty's territory in the year 717.
@@BaptisteLee Hi @@BaptisteLee, you get me wrong. I mean it would be much better for you to provide some documentary evidence to support your argument instead of claiming sth with only words. You know, no everyone knows Balhae, and no everyone has a strong historical background. For example, I found the information about Balhae in wiki, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Balhae, where it says Balhae last from 698 to 926, but 'In 713, the Tang dynasty bestowed the ruler of Jin with the noble title "Prince of Commandery of Bohai (Balhae)" (渤海郡王). In 762, the Tang formally elevated Balhae to the status of a kingdom.'
@@BaptisteLee I guess one problem here is that people have different definitions for territory and especially in ancient time. A good example here is the empire of alexander the great. Once they won the war, conquest a new kingdom, the local ruling classes submit themselves to the rule of the empire, then they (conqueror) thought the territory belongs to them. However, mostly the local kingdom still exists there.
@@BaptisteLeeAnother example, let us assume one day, Korea invaded China and won the war. But Korea can not kill all Chinese ruling class in their government and directly govern the Chinese citizens, due to the language, culture, and many other reasons. Instead, Korea will just accept the surrender from the Chinese government, make them under the rule of Korea, garrison inside China, get annual money from the Chinese government, control the Chinese army to fight for Korea during wartime. Then, Korea can claim China is their territory, but China still exists at the same time.
Thanks for not depicting Yang Guifei with a reverse goose egg head, those animations of "standard Chinese women" on this channel are hideous (despite generally being quite well illustrated).
Remember to check out Linfamy's Onmyoji video here: ua-cam.com/video/smJhRJSxQOA/v-deo.html And Rui's Three Kingdoms (Mandarin) channel here: ua-cam.com/video/heSS1pTFnn8/v-deo.html
I think unless otherwise specified China typically refers to the geographic place/polity (ceramics aside). Is there any particular example you found confusing? I think I might be misunderstanding you.
Definitely a culture. The Mongol Yuan Dynasty and Manchu Qing Dynasty still kept China mostly China because they assimilated into the Chinese culture deeply. This is why Chinese today is used to call all of the 56 ethnic groups in China.

Can you make a video about philosopher Mozi?

Actually I am a Taoist. It’s quite rare to see ppl mention Taoism.
What is Jedushi equal to? Governor?
Jiedushi is a Military Governor - sort of like a Viceroy in British system.
I am interested in this history in Pacific Asian culture.
Yang Guifei has been one of my favourite figures in Chinese history for over a decade.
I premised my SCA persona as her grandchild.
Her portrait is beautiful, even in today's beauty standards.
In korea, opium poppy is called 양귀비꽃(Yang gwi bi kkot, Yang Guifei flower).
He's portrayed in the Chinese fantasy movie "legend of the Demon cat"
And they literally hired Abe Hiroshi for the role. Lol!
@@CoolHistoryBros But the main Japanese role is the Monk which was portrayed by Shōta Sometani.
@@jackjackyphantom8854 That's right. And Abe Hiroshi guest starred as Abe no Nakamaro in the flashback sequence.
@@CoolHistoryBros Wow thanks for ur reply, sir. Btw are u an Singaporean?

Hi cool history bros, I just came from the zhang liang strategist archetype video, I was wondering if Zhou tong(周同) the teacher of Yue Fei, Lin Chong and Lu Junyi would be considered as the first "old badass teacher" archetype, if not, who would be considered as the first?
P.S when you eventually do the yue fei video I think a good clickbait title would be "the Chinese yi sun-sin : yue fei"
how about Cantonese? That would be so awesome.
Can anyone recommend others channals about asian history? (middle eastern also count) and Sorry for my horrible english

Was the An-Shi Rebellion really a rebellion or was it an old fashioned civil war like so many in Chinese history? A civil war between Tang and Yan, maybe it should be called the War of Yan Independence instead??
Max Superbus It’s indeed almost the most powerful empire at that time.
Rebellion is one of the cause of civil war.
I think the former prime minister of Japan is a decedent from his line.
Descendant
And so was Abraham Lincoln apparently

14:00 Ah, that explains it, it is simply modern Mainland beauty standards. I actually rarely see reverse goose egg heads on women outside of modern "extreme beauty" things from the Mainland, even Hong Kong hasn't (thankfully) adopted this trend yet.
I guess the Tang loved their women thick.

So I'm confused, is china a person or a belief system? Please be more clear in future videos
