We need more tutorial about making such beautiful music. I, mostly, interested in the creative part of the process, as well as your inspirations and compositional tactics.
I have been thinking about it, but I'm not sure how to shoot that in a way that's interesting and not tedious. Because it can take days depending on my mood and creativity "status". We'll see, just gotta finish some other projects that are burning first. :)
Yeah, you are quite right. Just that sometimes those screws are a pain in the butt.. when you have to go back in and redo something you forgot for instance. Hehe.
It’s not soldered, but clipped on the socket. If you pry open the grey end cap on those flat data cables, you can remove them, but I don’t see why unless you want to make your DIY displays. These displays come complete with a new cable so it’s just plug and play. :)
@@AndersEngerJensenOh I was asking, because I have a similar display I'm trying to troubleshoot and that white cable connection in your vid, to the right on the lcd, is what I need to take off so I can re-use the cable, but on mine it appears to be soldered on to the lcd display.
Hi Anders! Really useful video, thanks. I'm about to replace the battery in my TG77. Will I need to do a factory reset after doing this to bring all the factory default patches and settings back? ANy special procedure I need to follow? Thanks!
I didn’t have to factory reset mine, but it’s easy to do (remember to dump any modified sounds you got first): 1. Turn on the power. ... 2. Press and hold down the [VOICE] button, the [9] button, and then the [ENTER] button. 3. Continue to hold the buttons until a dialog box appears on the display. ... 4. Press the [COPY] button to execute the Factory Reset Procedure. More details on Yamaha’s site. faq.yamaha.com/usa/s/article/U0001955
@@AndersEngerJensen Thanks again - I ended up having to do a reset as some of the presets were weirdly titled / corrupted text. But all working well now!
Wasn't it necessary to change any component position (for this you had to desolder and solder with tin) during the process of changing the new LCD screen? Greetings.
No, no soldering (or desoldering) is needed. It’s already taken care of from Luxdisplays. Except I could of course remove the high voltage inverter on the left side as it’s not in use anymore. Other than that, it’s simply plug and play. :)
White on black, it’s my go to display when ordering. I want the best contrast yet not too much light in my studio when everything is on. However some displays are not perfectly black on camera so they tend to appear more light blue on dark blue unfortunately. The best displays are the ones that are OLED, but they are usually only for the smaller 2 or 1 liners. The big 320x64 like these ones are LCD and have a less pronounced contrast and white/black look.
Yes, isakwatz11 is right, Running With You (No leads) and then a new song coming out shortly: "Analog Love". Just waiting for the crew at Scenesat Radio to get the recurring "Sound of Scenesat Vol. 6" release done. Hopefully before August. ;)
I love my tg 7 and sadly the display is almost dead , also read some horror stories about the luxdisplays ..and I'm a bit hesistant to order -install it
Well, I can’t promise anything, but I have had nothing but good experiences when ordering displays. It may take some time to get them delivered, but he’s alone doing it all and sometimes the displays haven’t been designed properly yet, so he needs to get hold of some of the units first. I’ve been providing him with a few now, so his selection has increased lately. This one is as you see, pretty easy to install except for all the screws and the glass you have to transfer. :)
Yes, I just recently ordered one of these and then shortly afterward started seeing people talk about bad experiences. I hope that I don't regret dealing with this company because the display looks really nice. I'll hopefully be able to update soon about my experience.
This video was a godsend for carrying out this replacement, thank you!

Ah, the DX7 on Steroids.
Maybe one of my favorite synths of all time, more specifically the SY99.
Love the song in the background to!
Nice tutorial for someone who wants to change their display and also i love the instrumental of "Running with You"
This is great Anders I enjoy the text on the screen explaining what you did on each step. Nice job!
Great Video. If you ever get burnt out making music, you could sideline as a repair video documentary maker as well!
awesome beats yo
Otimo trabalho, estou esperando a minha unidade de display chegar de Londres aqui no Brasil pela DHL para instalar no meu tg77.
LOL don't blame Yamaha engineers! Those screws are the reason this device is still working and is in one piece some decades later ;)

@@AndersEngerJensen Compared to replacing the display in the SY99, this is like 1% of the work, so these screws don't look too bad ;)
2:42 question, does that connector disconnect or is it soldered onto the lcd assembly?

What's the music you used for this video?
After the intro is Running With You but without the main melody
