Gulf Coast service return is exciting, but the job will not be complete until it is fully restored to the east coast, either Miami, or Jacksonville Florida.
America is back! From Salinas here. I also heard that there are big plans for the Coast Starlight between San Luis Obispo and San Jose to add some routes, including in King City, and increase frequency. Currently there are only two daily trains from Salinas. One goes south to Los Angeles(330 miles/531 kilometers) and one goes north to San Jose/Oakland/Sacramento/Portland/Seattle. A crying shame, but there is hope. 😪🚝🙏
I"m glad to see Amtrak making such improvements in rail travel that is just coming back into the eye of the public more and more now. However, much more emphasis needs to be placed on the establishment of true high-speed rail, which is desperately needed in the USA.
This is some amazing progress, but I'm afraid that Amtrak is still not ambitious enough. It's up to us to continue to advocate for even more change at a faster rate.
Amtrak can only be as ambitious as the funds it gets and the law allows (for example, currently Amtrak cannot operate lines of less than 750 mi, unless the state participates in the operation and provides financing). It's always been up to the citizens of the US and the different states to advocate for more service.
Thanks for the planed updates. It is nice to see Amtrak is looking at improving its long distance trains. They have needed both new or Upgraded cars and better dining and lounge services. The new high speed trains in the northeast also should help in increasing ridership.
Ridership won't improve unless they make fares competitive with airline travel. Right now, fares are more expensive than airfare, between NYC and BOS, it's $100.
Fares are based on demand, just like with airlines. If you get a last minute ticket it will be more expensive and if you're looking to pay less take the regional, not the Acela. Tickets on this rout for Jan 15th ( a random, not too far away, date) for regional are mostly between $20-$27. On Acela the "business" class starts at $70. For the same date direct flights start at $112. You can get a Spirit flight from $31 through Orlando or Frontier from $59 through Atlanta or Orlando or Miami.
I applaud Amtrak for doing more next year, but they need to do more. Such as building their own lines, like there are some branches that I feel like they could easily implement high speed rail. such as buffalo to Chicago.
It can’t be done without billions of dollars in funding to first restore the line and then prepare it for high speed service. Amtrak can’t just take an abandoned line and magically transform it unfortunately. They don’t get that kind of money.
@@RailMan102_Productions They got that money through several grants, not one. Additionally that amount of money will not be consistent, so Amtrak is using it wisely and prioritizing the existing system over new lines. This includes new bridges and other infrastructure to rid speed restrictions and open bottlenecks.
@@RailMan102_Productions what money do they have to construct their own lines? If they had it or thought it was feasible, it would have been done by now. The only live example is the S-Line project which I live near, and I can tell you it is NOT cheap. Even then, the state authorities are providing the funding, not Amtrak alone.
There is no such thing and if you actually think that more trains are needed why just trains should "become more financially independent"? Roads are not financially independent and are heavily subsidized by governments. I doubt you'll suggest that those "become more financially independent", after all private companies can build them, charge tolls and abandon them if they stop being profitable. Air travel is also heavily subsidized, from the airport themselves and the traffic control systems, subsidized flights to areas that are not economically viable to aviation fuel subsidies (direct and tax credit) and very generous aid when needed, like during COVID, while transit systems (and even with low investments they move far more people than aviation will never be able to) received far less leading to cuts and layoffs of an already deprived sector.
It's not. It gets a government subsidy, but has its own sources of revenue as well. Please note that rail is a service, like highways and airports, both of which receive massive amounts of federal money.
Asking Amtrak to be less dependent on the federal government is like asking trucking companies to make a profit on a road network that is made of dirt or an airline to make a profit without building any airports. Amtrak can only operate like a private company if it gets subsidies for quality infrastructure. Otherwise, Amtrak will just cease to exist. Either way, I don't believe a private model is ideal. Some routes just can't be profitable, especially rural routes, but they are important to the communities they serve.

Great to see more Amtrak progress!👍

Yea I don't know why he does that, the same thing happened on another video where he mispronounced Acela

Thank you for the update. The Avelia trainsets will enhance Amtrak's image nationally and allow for increased service in the Northeast Corridor.

It's nice, but I'm not sure they'll get the kind of speed they say they will without some serious track, bridge, and overhead line work.
I am pro more trains, but innovation is decimated by unions and government regulations. Adding more lines is not a path to profitability.

but seriously, I think we do need more trains without the need of political support so we need to find ways to become more financially independent

Biden was a train guy. At least he got Amtrak a lot of funding before his term ends
This would be more enjoyable if you wrote and narrated this script yourself. AI is terrible.
I just think it needs to be less dependent on the federal government. I know it’s run by it, but it shouldn’t be 100% depended on it.
