F10 m5 shift knob and clutch spring removal help shift feel. Aftermarket exhaust is a must on this car

Still blows my mind that these rev to 8k RPM, I think that's so cool. Looks like this car was well taken care of! Good find

Been following your channel since day 1 of your FG2 journey, and as an FA5 Si + E92 M3 owner myself, I got psyched as soon as I saw this video. High revving NA engines all day!
The springy clutch was probably BMW's intention to keep this a comfortable cruiser-sports car rather than a thoroughbred street weapon. Can be fixed with removing the clutch delay valve. The rubbery shifter on the other hand kinda sucks though, can be fixed with a F10 M5 + short shifter kit. Arguably the FA5 Si has a better clutch + shifter action but I kinda prefer the E92 M3 since I find myself rev matching better with the springy clutch than with the linear FA5 clutch.
The E92 M3 has far superior steering and gives instant response to your steering inputs since it's hydraulic, as opposed to the FA5's electric power steering which also is known to fail a lot.
My guess as to why you feel the drive line shock with the E92 M3 is probably because you're used to the K20's rev hang. The S65 V8 has different characteristics and a different torque curve. It was kinda the opposite situation for me, I got used to the E92 M3 first and then when I got in the FA5, I had a hard time getting used to the rev hang and getting a smooth shift / downshift at the beginning.
I'd recommending taking the E92 M3 to a reputed BMW tech for the rod bearings + throttle actuators + motor mounts rather than doing it yourself. It's a painful process overall, I'd probably leave it to the mechanics who've had experience doing rod bearing replacements.
Nevertheless, both of these are timeless cars IMO, especially the NA engines!

Yeah I think my dad is planning on doing a shifter kit as well, that's good to hear it made a big difference! That's a pretty sick pairing of cars haha, two ends of the spectrum almost. Thanks for all the info here, I sent this to my Dad to take a look at!

That driveline shock is the Clutch delay valve it makes it tricky to shift smooth sometimes at higher rpms , it's very easy to remove, I've done it on my e46
