    I own 2 early Datsun Z cars. I owned a 1972 240Z for 13 years and a 1975 280Z for 6 years and love those cars, wish they still made them. I own a 987.2 2010 Cayman S and have made several performance modifications to get the flywheel HP into the low 370 range. While I don't dislike the newer Z cars, my preference was the old one's with the HLS 30 inline 6's.

    I owned a G35, 335i, and now a 981 base boxster. I have a driven a few 370z's and one 987.1 boxster.
    I prefer the porsche but would only get one for a daily if you can get a 987.2, as the engines are a bit more hardy for reliability. But then it gets harder to find a .2 because 987.2's are kinda rare.
    370z wins in terms of a daily, because they're bulletproof and easy to approach and buy. Dailying my 981 is awesome, but I feel like I encounter angrier drivers on the road, especially compared to the 335i. People let me over in the BMW, they don't at all in the boxster
    EDIT: Also if this is your first sports cars, its law to start on a Z/G. Like there are no better cars to learn on

    Nice video. In the United States I'd pick the 2007 Cayman S over the 2011 Z everyday with the price comparison there. In Australia the equivalent Z is around $25000 - $30000 with the equivalent Cayman S around two to three times more expensive at $60000 - $75000. A vastly different choice / value proposition 🤔.

      These are pretty comfortable cars, I wouldn't see an issue unless you may be worried about fuel consumption. Typically around the city I'm getting 20-24 mpg and on the highway around 26-30mpg. Add on premium fuel, higher car insurance cost, and if you have a long commute, it could be expensive.

    I mean, if you tell someone you drive a Porsche you'll make a bigger impression than if you say you drive a Nissan Z. I feel most folks don't even know what a Z is. With all that said, the new Z in yellow is one of my favorite looking cars of the decade

      This is part reason why Z’s are underrated. Of course Porsche has a bigger presence in the world, but the Z is in my opinion the better bang for buck. Looks gorgeous compared to the Cayman imo.

      @@UnitiveWILLIAM24 Biggest issue for the Z imo (and as a European) is the fuel consumption as a daily driver. Plus Porsche hold their values a lot better, so overall, I would go for the cayman simply because I'm not really rich and the cayman costs you less in "dry losses" (considering a 987.2)

    I’m not sure if you’ve done it already but please replace the plastic heater hose connector/ bleeder for an aluminum one. There’s a $20 part at AutoZone or a $35 part at z1 motorsports. Mine exploded on Saturday because it’s literally plastic.

    • @pattyboi
      @pattyboi  Місяць тому

      For the 370Z? Are you talking about the one near the rear of the engine sort of near the firewall?

      @@pattyboi also it’s between the hose coming off the heater core at the firewall, and the hose connected to the back of the head, you’ll see these two hoses joined with two clamps, between that is the connector in question.

      @@nicksknives2852 Yeah I see the connection you're talking about. Mine doesn't have a bleeder but is connected with a couple clamps. Maybe next time I have to drop my coolant I'll throw a stronger connection in it's place.

      I love both cars, and think they both look very outdated to the same extent. Like styling wise, they both look the same age to me (like an 08ish car)

  • @MrRoyck10

    The two cars do not have a hatch and therefore not a hatchback 🚗 like a Golf GTI, it’s called a Fastback. The ergonomics of the Porsche is far superior to the hideous interior of the Z car with that misplaced storage compartment where the screen should have been. The flat six Boxster engine is in a real sports engine exclusively for that purpose and the Porsche will always age well in the test of time. The Z Car is budget friendly when compared to the extremely high running costs of Porsche, the Porsche requires a specialist mechanic whilst any greasy monkey can fix the Z car. The P car wins all day everyday for me, it makes driving that special and the smile per gallon is worth it.

    • @SteveOThePatsFan
      @SteveOThePatsFan Місяць тому

      The Porsche doesn't require a specialized mechanic. I have done 90% of my maintenance myself on my 987.1 and I'm just a backyard mechanic. I think that impression you have of needing a specialized mechanic is the popular opinion though. Took my car to VIP for state inspection this spring and they failed it because they said the e-brake was grabbing too high. I asked them to just adjust it, and they refused saying they wouldn't touch a Porsche and it should go to the dealer. I drove home adjusted the e-brake so it grabbed a little higher and brought it back to pass (only took 15 minutes). I wouldn't be afraid of doing any basic maintenance yourself on a Cayman (my personal experience is only with a 987.1 though).

      This is the dumbest thing I've ever heard - all work I've done so far on the Cayman has been stupid easy. The whole "you need a specialized mechanic" is just a lie from the Porsche legacy members that don't know what they don't know. Hell, it literally has economy car suspension (Macpherson strut) on all four corners. This car is really simple to work on.

      The passive insults to the Z is hilarious. You sound shallow af. Go have the Porsche. The Z is amazing in it’s own right. And just by your internet behavior I know for a fact that youre not rich by any means so Id like to know what “greasy monkey” works on your car 😂. The Z has so much heritage. It’s an honest sports car and is thankfully underrated because of snobs like yourself. The styling of the Z is iconic as well, but though I agree Porsche is superior, (not in this case imo) it doesnt mean the Z doesnt deserve respect. It splits the difference between an 86 and Cayman. So a head to head comparison is a no brainer except when you look at the placement in the marketplace the Z holds. So be more humble or let karma do it for you.
