    People forget that this isnt just a sport bike, but this is a sport touring motorcycle. Emphasis on the touring part. A majority of riders aren’t locking their rear break trying to slide into corners so they shouldnt mind having abs. Also abs gives a the common sensable non track rider a feeling of safety against fishtailing and providing extra support in emergency stops. Traction control and lift control is also amazing on this bike. You should not rely on these systems completely but they work so well you absolutely can rely on it. But it forms bad habits. For the sport touring rider there is no real reason to turn any of these safety functions off unless you have the desire to do wheelies or slide your rear tires in a turn. Its a sport touring motorcycle at the end of the day.

    I was in the voting minority but I do like the busa. Exhaust is huge on it. I’ve not had the ABS on a bike kick in yet. I LOVE cruise control! There’s always things you wish were different and it doesn’t mean you hate the bike. The shift light settings are cool…ok I like techy stuff. I don’t think I need a shift light anyway. Good video man!

    • @MonkeyButtRides

      Yeah, I won't use the shift light much, the damn thing is so fast you don't need to take it to redline one of the nice things about the 1000+cc engines you don't have to beat on them too much to have a bit of fun you know. Thanks!

    Mate you make some very good points here, I wish ABS was an optional add on because most riders I know have never even needed their ABS to kick in so surely it should be dependent on the buyer.
    Can't wait to see the new exhaust system when you get some time to doing it.
    Man that shift light thing confused me, what is the point of all the settings and different colours? surely just one light would be enough no?
    You got the Gixxer 25 years ago? I was just being born 25 years ago lol.

      ABS is fine, what is needed is the option to switch it off if you want hooligan times. It's insane to accept traction control, anti wheelie and all the other electronic aids but draw the line at fucking ABS... seriously...

Even though I've never used the humps, I still want them. (I kept them after trade in, but I had custom seat covers on my bikes, so it evened out?) I also purchased extra prop rods for my tool box.

    The speed triple had three colours that lit up around the edge of the rev counter - at the top end of the revs on that bike there was more things to look at other than the dash at that point ! I get that the huge exhaust is the only way they get the bikes through the emission rules - but it is a big investment and a bit od a sickener to have to stick a new exhaust on a brand new bike. You can not get a new bike in the UK without ABS as I believe it is mandatory on new bikes now (I could be wrong) which is a shame as I think the rider should have the option , but Nanny seems to know best you know !

    When I saw the 16 min-long "don't like" list I was worried. However, I'm glad you still dig the bike and nothing serious.
    - As for the cannons, yeah, they need to go. Too bad I'm in the EU and there is only one (1) aftermarket slip-on that is road legal. Akrapovic. No competition = overpriced as hell. Don't even think about a full system. I'll wait until next winter with the swap to see if there are options then.
    - ABS is mandatory here, but I hear you, there should be an option to fine-tune it
    - Shift light: I will set it to such a high RPM so that the earliest light comes on when I want to shift. Then forget about the rest of the colors.

    As you know I really am not a fan of how ABS feels on bikes, at all. The S1000XR I always felt it kicked in a bit early. It's a legal requirement on new bikes in Europe tho so we're sadly stuck with it.
    Could be the throttle just needs use to loosen up maybe? It probably needs a big ass spring cus BUSA.
    Those are some F1 style shift lights in fairness :D That's a real pity you can't turn off the sublights, that'd be perfect then!!
    The tank prop on the gsxr is so handy, but I also use blocks of wood for some extra space :P
    The Busa seems fast, who knew :P

      Oh god me either, I've got another round of MX parts to order for my retro rebuild then it's time for the exhaust!! So far I guess I don't mind the ABS it hasn't got in my way yet and as long as it stays out of my way I will probably leave it but an ABS delete is on the table. Sucks it's probably an enforced mandate in Europe. IDK about the throttle I think I've gotten use to it now but I also haven't gone on long rides since because of the weather so we will see. BUSA needs a stiffy!! LOL.. Yeah, I'm the same I've used a 2x4 and my floor jack handle on the ZX10. OMG, it's not in the video but on one of the acceleration runs I almost ran into the guard rail!! I was paying to much attention to all the blinky lights. Maybe I'll post it on Patreon....🤦‍♂️

    Hello MB, as far as the shift light is concern, I made my sub lights the least interval possible which I think is 250rpms. My reason being that by the time the first light turns on, I know that just another 500 rpms comes the white one. At that speed (10000 for me) as soon as I sense any light, the white one is very fast behind it which gives me time to shift. That way I dont worry about the actual interval. I dont know if you get what I mean. I think at one point in the vid you mention setting the sub lights at 250, which is what I mean...Keep the rubber side down brother , even if is just one tire...

    • @MonkeyButtRides

    To give it perspective, the exhaust weighing 50lb is a similar weight to a six year old child. Most cars these days have stainless exhausts, the reason being that a thinner wall steel can be used thus decreasing weight. I am guessing that Suzuki are using their traditional steel construction and those headers will need looking after.

      Those of us that come from a racing background, and mine in particular is heavy with Motocross, do not like linked brakes and ABS. I'm use to being able to lock the rear, slide the bike around and control my brakes independent of each other. Linked with ABS takes this away from me I don't like it. While the bucket of riders you fall into need the electronics just to get by, but there are some of us that do not need or want it all and would like to have some choice instead of people like you telling the rest of us it's 2022 and to just "get with the times". I like the fact that they make bikes for people like you so you can turn the power down, "feel safe" with your TC and anti lift BS but we don't all fit into the same box. Be sure to stick around long enough to watch me make my abs/link delete video goose.

  • @driveandsurvive
    @driveandsurvive 2 роки тому

    Nice work MB. I was led to believe that the inability to turn off ABS, on some bikes, was due to a 'State' requirement. If so, I feel it reflects two significant issues. The first, is that our regulators, on average, may have limited riding experience or no riding experience and over rely on third party advice that oversells the benefit of ABS, and secondly that, as riders we don't have a national riders association that accurately, collectively, represents our safety interests as riders. As a result, we have a motorcycle that takes significantly longer (potentially on a dry hard surfaced road, 5-7m longer at 100km/h to 0 km/h - MCN - ua-cam.com/video/0KdYHUh78pI/v-deo.html ) to stop in a straight line. This is not a big issue if steering around the obstruction ahead is possible. However, if it's a case of stop or collide or drop off an edge, then it is a big deal. Not only should a rider be able to turn ABS on or off, as a personal preference that suits their level of ability and riding environment (track days or departure from sealed roads), a rider should be able to turn it off quickly. As an example, I once overshot a corner due to an accident by others in the mid-corner, and had to stop on wet sodden grass, before a small cliff. The only way, was to lock both tyres and literally slide the bike broadside, until deep furrows were carved into the muddy ground beneath the grass, to bring the a non ABS road bike to a stop, against twin ploughed up piles of mud and grass. So close to the 6-8 meter / 19-25 foot drop, into a rocky culvert that I couldn't put a foot down on the culvert side. If that had happened with ABS, I would have sailed out into the culvert, without a doubt. I have three other personal cases were ABS would also have brought me unstuck. In the BUSA,s defence, you can at least lock the rear on the right setting - and get it turned sideways if you need to - I'm just not sure how to control the highside momentum, if you can't also lock the front while broad-sliding to realign direction whilst washing of speed, to a stop or a wheels first impact (embankment, truck bogie, car, etc). If right now your screaming, 'but with ABS you can steer around all these things', please go back to the third and fourth sentence - there is not always somewhere to go, and with good brake control you can still brake and steer, its just easer with ABS and therefore in the majority of cases safer - but not always, and that should be enough for the choice to remain with the rider.

    • @MonkeyButtRides
      @MonkeyButtRides  2 роки тому

      Yeah, I'm with ya, back in my younger days racing at Summit Point, WV I lost my front brake (story for another thread) shortly before coming onto the front straight but didn't know it until I hit the other end of the straight into turn 1. Ran off the track, lots of run off but still with only a rear brake I was quickly approaching trees. I decided to lock her up and lay it down. I think for the masses, ABS is great and I think Suzuki's ABS implementation on the Busa is good but for the few of us that the main stream think are crazy we just get lost in the shuffle so to speak for some of the reasons you mentioned.

It's also easier to work on than the 14. All the high power bikes have the same top governed speed, so nothing is better there. The busa can more easily be upgraded in horsepower than the 14.
