My favourite places for really goooood fish & chips in London are: Rock & Soul Plaice (established 1871) a few streets off Covent Garden, The Queen's Head, Durham Street (a small street behind Piccadilly, a tiny pub), and my absolute favourite in walking distance at least where I usually am when in London is The Spaniard's, snuggled at the corner of Hampstead Heath close to Kenwood House. - I lived in London 30 years ago, and I still and dearly miss it.
@@micheledemeyer3428 No, I am sorry, it's not. The word "plaice" is set as a deliberate pun because it's a fish they serve. So, dear random person, who could not resist the itch to unnessecarily correcting me without being able to contribute anything constructive or informative to the subject, please do your research. Thank you.
A good tip for dining economically in London is the ‘pre theatre’ option. You often get special value prices if you eat early (typically between 5-7, which often suits Americans because many like to dine early anyway). For fans of Turkish cuisine my absolute favourite is ‘Kazan’ in Pimlico. A selection of meze starters plus a main was around £20 last time I was there and it was divine.
Headed over in one month, already have reservations at Dishoom and have added so many of these to our "must eat". Trying new food is my favorite part of travel.
Don't watch if you are hungry and far from food !! Excellent guide to eating in London And don't forget that most Fullers pubs offer outstanding and excellent food at decent prices - and of course accompanied by a pint of delicious London Pride !
The full Monty came from field marshal Montgomery, he had the same thing every morning, hence the full Monty. You need brown sauce on the breakfast as well
Controversial @11:12 when preparing your scones! Jess uses the Devonian method (cream under the jam) as opposed to the Cornish method (jam under the cream). Royalty prefers the Cornish method (the heir is the Duke of Cornwall, after all!)
This channel appeared in my recommended for whatever reason and I’ve been binge-watching. Super interesting, useful content and great production values. I had no plans to go to London but now I’m thinking I should!
Hey what's up Jess! Damn, you're gonna make me stay in London my whole trip to Europe. I was gonna go to Paris but these food spots are so dope I might just skip Paris and stay in London the whole time! Thank you so much for showcasing these restaurants! These options are so cool and off the beaten path it seems! That's what I like! I mean I plan on doing the Duck and Waffles things an GONG but the tucked away spots is what I'm really into so thank you! Oh and the rotating cheese bar...I'm so there!!😆Thank you for all that you do for us and be well, be safe and Cheers!!!
I think for most Americans, the weirdest thing about the Full English is beans for breakfast. But when I got over there and tried it, it actually works. I got hooked.
I'd like to point out that if you are visiting the UK outside of London when ordering Fish and Chips it's best to ask the pub, restaurant or takeaway (particularly if you're buying from a takeaway) what fish they serve, depending on where you are the fish offering will be different. In the North Plaice is the most popular F&C fish, however in the South West (where I live) Cod is prefered
We stayed in SOHO and there was Breakfast Club right around the corner from the Hotel One of the best breakfasts I've had! Plus the environment was pretty cool too!
Hi, new follower here! London trip in middle of April, my second time but 10 years since last so it feels like new. I really appreciate your take on things to see the real London and not onlythe touristy (well I'm sure some of that will fit in as well)! A bit overwhelming with all the possibilities but with some planning it will be fine!

The one dish I wish I got to try in England was fish and chips, however I don't consume alcohol and many of the restaurants serve it beer-battered. I can say for sure that the full English was my favorite eat on the trip!
Have fish and chips the next time you come to visit, as the batter won't contain any alcohol. When beer or wine is used in cooking the heat of the cooking process destroys the alcohol.
@Love and London appreciate the reply! Unfortunately in my religious tradition we are not permitted to use alcohol even while cooking or baking. Regardless, I plan to return to the UK and hunt down the one restaurant in the entire country that doesn't use beer 😅
Your channel is incredible and very useful! I only recently met you, but I already love your channel and you! ❤️ You are very sweet! 😊 Thank you for your work! 😊
Great choices Jess Been to Dishoom twice and the food is great. However, there are much better Indian/Pakistani restaurants around the UK that are even cheaper and better. But Dishoom is a great place to start for sampling Indian food as a tourist or maybe the restaurants on Brick Lane. Also been to Poppies as well and they were good too. But obviously the best Fish and Chips are found on the coastal towns
Brick Lane is an experience, but ultimately a con. You can get a better curry pretty much everywhere else. I'm convinced that all the restraunts down Brick Lane open out at the back to one huge kitchen making vats of average food...
@@benzytv I do kind of agree about Brick Lane. There are other Indian/Pakistani food that you can find in areas which are better like Southall, Ilford, East Ham, Forest Gate and on Ealing Road in Wembley. Outside of London, lots of great places in Birmingham, Bradford, Manchester and Leicester
@@LeMagnifiqueDoubleAgent-cj4zo The only reason why I said Brick Lane because tourists may not get the time to go other places and Brick Lane is more or less in Central London. I know the food isn't exactly Indian. I am actually British born and bred of Pakistani heritage and I know authentic Indian/Pakistani food because I have it on a daily basis at home
I was looking for somewhere to eat near Shoreditch today, where I'd been photographing street art, and realised I was close to the Unity Diner, so I tried it out. The Black Pudding is the best thing on the breakfast plate. Nothing controversial about it at all. Good Black Pudding is one of the best foods out there. And popular all over Europe. Spain does a nice version of it.
I just ate a full meal an hour ago and now I am hungry again after seeing this 😂 it all looks fantastic. Been a while due to covid now I'm mobility impaired but I walked London a lot so no worry's, I intend to hold down some Pub stools and Black Cabs mostly, can't do the tube station without lifts. I still do my Brit grub here and know where to eat there (Poppy's is good but not the best, Ill have my F&C and Pie and mash in the East end). Loved the Breakfast Club when we were in London last summer. Food was super tasty and the staff was excellent. It's the only restaurant we went to twice on that trip (the Shoreditch / Hoxton location). And Dishoom was one of our FAVORITE meals of that trip - thank you so much for the recommendation! Loved, loved, loved the food, the cheery staff and the wonderful ambiance. I've added Goddard's to the list for our next trip, thanks!

On my first trip to London in 1990, the food was extremely ordinary, with the exception of the full English breakfast, which has always been great. In the early 2000's something improved significantly in the food scene in the UK and food overall is so much better. My 'go to' favourite pub meal is the fish and chips.
I tried to eat at Dishoom on my last London trip but couldn’t get a reservation. Found another great Indian place near the Royal Opera House. But I loved Poppie’s!!
Hi Jess, love your channel! The wifey and I are planning on going to London for my 60th, it's not until next October but I really enjoy the videos! I recognise that Breakfast Club - nice bar in the back... not meant for breakfast though. Have meant to try this now legendary Dishoom breakfast for a while. Will now add Poppies to my list of London places to go. Thank you! 👍
It would be interesting to see a video of London/UK based foodchains, like Cote, Nandos, itsu etc. Are they to be avoided or are some of them ok places to spend your money?
We love Côte. We always make it our first night meal (as we are usually a little tired from traveling and hitting the ground running that day). It’s got a nice simple ambiance and we think delicious food. They’ve got some core menu items, but they add items seasonally. We now make a joke of it when we are heading to the UK, is they Côte nearby? (We’ve been to Bath, York, Windsor CÔTE multi times ❤️
In my opinion, in London you can do much better than the chains like Cote, etc. I much prefer going to more unique independent restaurants which generally do much nicer food if you know which ones are the good ones. We give some amazingggg locally-loved food recommendations in our London guides: shop.loveandlondon.com
Hmmm not really, a lot of mediocre pubs in that area. Our best pub reccs are found in our Casual Tourist Guides: shop.loveandlondon.com/collections/casual-tourist-guides-to-london

If I could visit London again, my favourite food would be fish and chips, which have been around since Napoleon won the Battle of Waterloo! They taste lovely.
Your videos have been super helpful as we plan to travel to London in June for the first time. Do you recommend doing the walking tour that covers Westminister & London central that comes with the London pass? Looks like we are already signing up for a hectic trip if we buy the London pass. Your thoughts please. 🙏
Never been on it but I imagine it's quite standard tour with a huge group. We have two tours that go through Westminster that have a different element to them. See them here: tours.loveandlondon.com
You need to do a food tour of the UK. Each region has it’s own foods. For instance a Bedfordshire Clanger. Or a Devon v Cornish tea. You need to visit the Balti triangle in Birmingham, and check out our regional cheeses.
@Love and London sorry I should've said "also" going to more traditional places as well, your recommendations are superb. I would recommend Sheba on Brick Lane, great curry house
The more authentic Indian restaurants are on the outskirts of London not central London as it is designed for non Indians, less spice, not as experimental

Discovered your channel 2 days before because of my searching for my upcoming trip to london and as a vegetarian couldn't be happier discovering that your are also including veggie options 🤤
So glad to hear it! THanks so much :)
I recognise that Breakfast Club - nice bar in the back... not meant for breakfast though.
Have meant to try this now legendary Dishoom breakfast for a while.
Will now add Poppies to my list of London places to go. Thank you! 👍
Thanks for watching ❤️❤️
Hi Jess, please drop link to your guide mentioned in the video. First timer here 😊
loveandlondon.com/london-101-guide-main you can find links to everything we mention in our videos in the description boxes of the video :)
Nice and informative! I indeed like you taking with you the leftovers! Have you got any recommendation for a cool Sunday brunch restaurant?
Glad to hear it :) We have tons of great food reccs in our London guides: shop.loveandlondon.com
I wish I could go there and see a friendly city thanks for video
thanks for including so many vegetarian options
You're welcome ❤️
Heading to London in November :), thanks for all your recommendations, is there any good place you can recommend for Sunday roast in Westminster?
Hmmm not really, a lot of mediocre pubs in that area. Our best pub reccs are found in our Casual Tourist Guides: shop.loveandlondon.com/collections/casual-tourist-guides-to-london
@@loveandlondon hi thank you for your reply. I need you honest opinion. We are about to cancel the trip due to the war in middle east. How do you see the situation there? Thanks
Do u also have recommendations for a London visit with Kids? Cool playgrounds etc.?
New article coming next week with tips for coming with kids! loveandlondon.com
Man I miss living in London so much!!!!
ahhh :)
I'm loving the attention to vegan and vegetarian options! Thank you!
You're very welcome! I'm veggie so wanted to include everyone ❤️
Yes, same here. Love that you give so many vegetarian and vegan options. Headed to London at end of April and I have listed down all of these.
Omnivore here, but the black daal at Dishoom is the best single dish I have eaten in my life!
soooo yummy
Can you do best London breakfast restaurants!
I have lots of amazing breakfast reccs in our itineraries and guides! Shop.loveandlondon.com
Thanks for all the great videos! May I ask the name of your lovely coat? We’re visiting in April.
It's from a brand called Noize Originals (from canada). It's a vegan and ethically-made company.
If I could visit London again, my favourite food would be fish and chips, which have been around since Napoleon won the Battle
of Waterloo! They taste lovely.
Nice!
@@loveandlondon Thank you!
Hey Jess ! Do you mind me asking for the location you are in in the intro? With the rainbow installation ?
Soho Square ❤️
@@loveandlondon Just added it to my map, thank you Jess ! x
You need to do a food tour of the UK. Each region has it’s own foods. For instance a Bedfordshire Clanger. Or a Devon v Cornish tea. You need to visit the Balti triangle in Birmingham, and check out our regional cheeses.
This is "Love and London" but maybe one day ;)
May I know which branch of Breakfast Club was featured here in video. Thanks
Canary wharf ❤️
Dishoom is great but I'd recommend going to a proper traditional Indian restaurant when in London for the authentic curry house experience.
Give some reccs then :) I mentioned that this is more of a modern take.
@Love and London sorry I should've said "also" going to more traditional places as well, your recommendations are superb. I would recommend Sheba on Brick Lane, great curry house
@@Tom-vb5jo fab😘😘😘
I beieve
The more authentic Indian restaurants are on the outskirts of London not central London as it is designed for non Indians, less spice, not as experimental
wow thanks for。sharing
I wonder if black pudding tastes anything like blood sausage..😋🤤I love what we in the USA call blood sausage.
