@@serinat2181 Honestly it was heartbreaking and uplifting all at once. I'm as awkward as Emma and my xhusband actually looks a lot like Leo, however I related more to Dexter's character! lol. I'm very much that shattered, emotional, passionate, spontaneous type. Plus, being divorced feels like a death. Unfortunately I still love that blockhead 1000 times over but have to simply let go because it's not for me. meh. That aside, seeing this relationship in a lead role gave me back so much confidence I had lost. Representation is so important. Her honesty about anxiety and depression 🥺 and she's so hard working and i'm so glad it all paid off for her. She truly truly deserves everything that's gonna come her way...❤

Absolutely loved the show! When she was talking about representation, not just seeing yourself on screen but seeing that someone like you can fall in love and be loved, totally relate to that as an Asian woman as well. It’s really unfortunate the number of comments I’ve seen online criticizing her looks. I think it’s super refreshing to see someone not “conventionally attractive” or uber hot playing the love interest.

YES!!!! I watched this entire series back to back twice. In many ways it felt like watching my own story. I cried for every episode. My xhusband even looks a bit like Leo. I'm not quite as beautiful as Amibka but I am as awkward as Emma. I cried for the love I lost, the love I thought I had. Really meaningful series.

I had this experience too, it felt like it was mine and my wife's story (we met 22 years ago). Ambika reminds me of her hugely (although she's south American not Indian) It has moved both of us and shaken up our world in a incredible way. The one thing I keep thinking is that its really REALLY not just a love story. I'm a 47 year old bloke that doesn't watch much TV but I don't think I've ever been this affected by a TV show. Its just astonishing.
@@danbax76 I know, this spoke to my heart so, so deeply. I am actually Indian (From Trinidad) and awkward as hell, but I actually related more to Dexter's character. That shattered part of him. That spontaneous, romantic, charming, terrified part of him. I'm 47 and my husband and I got divorced this January. This show, broke me. I still love Sebastian (my X) very much and I supposed that's why it hurts so bad. We were married for 17 years.

Great interview because it was genuine . As a Latina it was refreshing to see this powerful, smart and sassy woman called Emma. I loved it. I remember growing up and when I was a professional actor who studied film acting that I could never get a film role because of my looks back in the 1980's and 1990's. It just was so rare and difficult.

I have read the book numerous times and watched the movie more than once. I did not want to watch this. Turned out better than the movie and I was blown away. I was shattered at the end.
Seeing a POC/BAME person on screen without their whole character surrounding them not being white is TRUE representation. I just want to see a normal girl experience everyday life without it being a statement. Yes, I love movies that highlight different cultures, but it's so nice to just have it be normal for someone to not be white on screen. We are real people who have beautiful friendships, awful heartbreaks, and everything in between.
I cried my eyes out after binge watching the whole series over the weekend. I was obsessed with their chemistry but had a feeling it won’t end well, it was all getting too good to be true. Can’t remember the last time I cried so much. The acting was so raw and real. Thank you for this masterpiece ❤

I loved this interview and I this Series, they were just both so fantastic! I cried my eyes out on the last 2 episodes😭. as someone who's currently going through grief , this was very grief triggering, But in a good way... it was better than therapy! I'd say they were about 3 years ahead of me in this timeline so it also mirrored my life during that era. I can't even speak to all the layers that it hit for me, It's like I relived my life during that twenty years. I too am watching it for a second time Because I can't get enough and also you see things that you missed the first time. definitely have to get the book. the whole thing just took me by surprise and what a lovely surprise!😭🙏❤️💘

I have never been so disappointed at the ending of a show ever. It was builing into a beautifull crescendo with the penultimate episode finally gettting them together and then in the last episode, she gets run over on her bike in the rain and dies? So deflating and disappointing. Last episode: finding out that she could never have children and breaking up, meeting up again to have a beer together, getting drunk and having sex. Next scene realizing that she was pregnant and cut to final scene with them back on Hampsted heath on a picnic blanket with their child, pan out to credits. What a beaufull ending that would have been. What were they thinking ending it this way?
After watching One Day with Ambika in the lead role and her co-star, I would not like to see the movie with other actors performing the role of Emma and Dexter.
So she's playing a white character? Are we to just ignore that she's Asian? (when it would have been quite unrealistic for an Asian woman to have the kind of life Emma had in the 80's/90's)
the author of the book was more than happy for ambika to play emma, there’s a reason she got the part. she portrayed Emma beautifully. her ethnicity is not the focal point, she’s a girl first. this is a love story. we are not ignoring her race but that’s just 1% of what makes a person, and why would it be unrealistic for an asian girl in the 80s to meet a boy in uni and fall in love over the years? that’s quite ignorant of you to even think and say.
I think your reasoning is too simplistic. I am a women of Indian heritage born in the UK and I graduated from a British uni in the 90s and met a wonderful English guy. Although not common in the 80s by the 90s there were a number of relationships like this when people met at uni or work, especially if you lived in a major city like London. I loved this drama, great acting and it brought back a lot of happy memories. ❤
It would be unusual for someone to date outside their “Class” let alone race in the 80’s-90’s, of course, now is a different story that is all that was being pointed out…
To be honest, I did not think Ambika and Leo had any chemistry in the first episode. But I loved the story so I stuck with it. But wow, by episode 9 or 10 when they saw each other at Tilly’s wedding, the chemistry was there. All the feels…
Oh Ambika I think you're "look together with your superb, natural acting skills has got you where you are now and will be taking you to more particular roles.
It is so amazing when you relate to something on such a huge level like that isn't it? If you also want to hear more from Ambika talking about One Day and more listen to the full interview with Ambika on my podcast Reign, here: hyperurl.co/i4yxt0 Hope you love it, Josh
She’s so talented!! Loved the casting and their chemistry is amazing!
It was the best casting, right? If you want to hear more about the audition process, the chemistry reads and more listen to the full chat with Ambika on my podcast, Reign here: hyperurl.co/i4yxt0 - hope you enjoy! x
I watched it over 4 days. So relatable in every sense. Living in Edinburgh in the late 80s, opp Arthur's Seat for a while, spent years in London, Richmond, Belsize Park all familiar ... Abs bowled over by the series 15:35
thank God she is alive
Such a special person isn't she! Make sure you listen to the full interview with Ambika on my podcast Reign, here: hyperurl.co/i4yxt0 because this video edit is just a quarter of the chat!

Its been five days since I binged watched. I still cannot get them and their story out of my head and I cried like a baby while I watched the last episode.
I cried so much in the final episode! I think I will be emotionally scared for life! If you want to hear more about the show, listen to the full interview with Ambika on my podcast Reign, here: hyperurl.co/i4yxt0 Hope you love it, Josh
homie... why'd you put spoilers in the video@@reignwithjoshsmith
Thank you for the love for the interview and I also just wanted to say I am so sorry you had to live through that experience. I hope you know now how special and valued you are! If you also want to hear Ambika talking about this more in depth, listen to the full interview with Ambika on my podcast Reign, here: hyperurl.co/i4yxt0 Hope you love it, Josh
Honestly, I will never forget it. Totally amazing in every way.
I just watched One Day 2 days ago and I absolutely loved it so much! Ambika, is such a beautiful and believable actress! I could'nt see anyone playing Emma, but, her! And Leo, I feel the same about him, he is the best Dexter there could have been!! I love the two of them to bits!!! Best thing I have watched in a long time!!!! I'm in love with it actually, and the two of them!!!! ❤❤❤❤
It is the perfect casting isn't it? If you want to hear more about the casting process make sure you listen to the full interview with Ambika on my podcast Reign, here: hyperurl.co/i4yxt0 Hope you love it, Josh
She is sensational. I loved her as Emma...inspired casting and I am so glad she said yes. I also had the need to watch it again, right away...Ive just finished watching it a third time 😳...i have never done that with a tv show before. BRAVO to everyone involved. Ambika and Leo are now my two favourites and I cant wait to see what they do next ❤
I can't wait to see what they do next too! In the meantime if you want more Ambika checkout the full interview on my podcast Reign here: hyperurl.co/i4yxt0 hope you love it!

She's sooooooo beautiful ❤
And the kind of beauty we need on our screens more! If you want more Ambika talking more about the show and beauty checkout the full interview on my podcast Reign here: hyperurl.co/i4yxt0 hope you love it!
She’s real. And so gorgeous in every possible way. God bless her.
This....THIS
she is so beautiful dude
Want to see Ambika more often definitely.
I cried my eyes out after binge watching the whole series over the weekend. I was obsessed with their chemistry but had a feeling it won’t end well, it was all getting too good to be true. Can’t remember the last time I cried so much. The acting was so raw and real. Thank you for this masterpiece ❤
What a warm, endearing, and heartfelt interview, she nailed it, she put a voice in Emma, and she connected us viewers with her character in ways that most of us couldn't imagined
Woah she's so cool and beautiful. What a lovely interview too.

loved this interview!! ambika is incredible, and your questions were so thoughtful and interesting josh! i need to go listen to the podcast now lol
Beautifully weighted questions that implied empathy and insight and really helped bring the best out of this really smart actress.
Beautiful interview. Ambika and Leo were so great on screen together, such raw emotions. Episode 12 is paradise, while the last two episodes just crush the life out of you. Amazing actors 🥰

Thoroughly enjoyed this! As a south asian woman, this show and the way it represented brown people meant a lot especially because it wasn't what made Emma who she was and was more about her life and career, leading a normal life. What an amazing interviewer aswell you are Josh, so engaging and you had such amazing questions too!
Thank you so much for sharing this - it's incredible that the show made you feel represented, seen and hopefully heard too? Binged the series and felt the need to watch it again. So I did. Then proceeded to watch again. Listening to Ambika is so refreshing, same with Leo Woodall - they’re humble and hilarious. I could listen to them all day
Me too! If you want more Ambika checkout the full interview on my podcast Reign here: hyperurl.co/i4yxt0 hope you love it - it's 50 mins long so this video is really just a small part of the interview!

The show should make everyone involved so incredibly proud. Loved watching how life changed heading from 80’s to 2000’s in a way that I didn’t consciously notice whilst actually living it. I cried buckets watching the show so thanks for that! Can’t wait to see what you do next.
It is a real emotional journey isn't it - glad you enjoyed the journey too! If you want more Ambika checkout the full interview on my podcast Reign here: hyperurl.co/i4yxt0 hope you enjoy!
Loved Ambika in this series and the chemistry with Leo was obvious. Both gave us such an emotional ride. I just finished watching and am going to do a rewatch.
Such an interesting and beautiful person!! I can relate to her and I think I just needed to watch this! Love all the aspects of this series❤
Absolutely love her and Leo. Devastatingly beautifully acted and story telling.
I Love That She Opens Up About How In The Beginning She Knew This Book, Took Pride In This Book From a Very Early Age, And Even Goes on To Say So Openly, And Honestly, That She Pushed It Away Because She Could Not See Herself In This Role.
A Role She So Admired From The Start. How Sad Might I Add, And How Long Have Women, and Men Of Color and Prejudice Not Believed In Themselves, Because Of Such Unrealistic, and Quite Disgusting Beauty Standards Set In The Industry , And World We Live In. The World Where Every New Comings Of Youth, Get To Look Up To.
I'm Just So Incredibly Happy, And Proud, That She Gave Herself That 3rd Chance! Of Course, That The Casting Directors Saw Into Her As Well!Because Now, All Of The Little Girls and Boy's at Home Watching, Who Look Similar To The Beautiful Ambika, Now Don't Only Have To Dream, But Make It a Goal, and Reality!!
You Go Girl!
Sorry For The Long Writings...I am.....But She Deserved It!
I'm Just Very Proud of Her. In This Series, And Also What Is To Come From Her💗

she was sooo good!!
I am so happy that Ema was played by a woman of color so masterfully ❤
Lovely interview. I completely enjoyed watching the series and the ending made me so thankful to have the woman i have in my life (wife )even though, due to immigration issues, we have to be apart for longer than we expected... Though at the same time, the ending was that much more emotional for the same reasons.

They are one! No wonder she says she manifested it! If you want more Ambika checkout the full interview on my podcast Reign here: hyperurl.co/i4yxt0 hope you love it - she talks more about the show on there!
Wonderful and Brilliant Ambika❤
Awesome Awesome Awesome
She made the impact because not typically like blond beautiful girl like usual.her character made more interesting and her voice accents is pleasent match to the character and show.
Agree. I don’t think I’d be so absorbed with yet another story of two white people struggling with love. This had nuance and depth and true beauty.
I have watched it 3 times, I blitzed it all.3 times
I am on my third watch too! Before you go onto your forth watch though listen to the full interview with Ambika on my podcast Reign, here: hyperurl.co/i4yxt0 Hope you love it because there is so much more from this chat on there!
Très très bonne actrice une étoile montante dans le milieu cinématographique anglais
Such an amazing video ❤️👏
being a normal-looking brown girl is so relatable. not like Bollywood actresses.
Yeah bc Bollywood actresses live in India, of course there is a cultural difference
I think she's beautiful, and cute. Big brown eyes, great cheekbones, combined with her dry sense of humour is👌 I'm a straight woman, not a pervy guy 😂 Just saying it as I see it.
Firstly, I am so sorry you are going through grief and I really hope you are looking after yourself? Sending love your way and I am glad the show and the interview has helped you in some way. Take care, and if you want to hear more from Ambika listen to the full interview on my podcast Reign here: hyperurl.co/i4yxt0 - hope it keeps you company at this time. Josh x
@@reignwithjoshsmiththank you so much, i loved the show so much I'm watching round 2 as well :) I'm going to watch the full interview, thank you! Honestly, i think the unexpected ending gut punched me as it did everyone. Probably the intense grief reaction was very catharctic, helped me release...i could relate to Dexter's downward spiral, my heart went out to him... it's hard, this process🙏🙏🙏 thank you again❤️
You're funny and beautiful much love love to see you more ❤
No because I’ve watched it twice in less than a week but I went into the first time totally blind, I had no idea about the book or movie ngl
She’s phenomenal in the ‘One Day’ series. How many times did she say “like” in this interview?
It happens to the best of us haha!
Same. Annika is Emma to me.
This idea that 'I have to see myself on TV' is so reductive, and brings everything down to colour.
It would be unusual for someone to date outside their “Class” let alone race in the 80’s-90’s, of course, now is a different story that is all that was being pointed out…
So true but it is wonderful that things are changing in the world of acting and life. That is what I love about the younger generation .
Jesus christ get over it dude
Watch the original with Anne Hathaway....it is so much better than this Netflix version.
Hard pass. Ambika and Leo make it way better.
I think Ms. Hathaway was miscast. Who believes that she was plain looking (in the beginning) and could not get dates.
AMBIKA IS WAY MORE BETTER, SHES STUNNING! 😍🙇🏻🙇🏻
So overrated it infuriates me.......there were two good episodes in the whole series!
Seriously 🤣🤣🤣
What the ??? Where is your heart mind soul body ? Hahaha. No.
Your " look " is so unique and so stunning. It's a very different look, quite exquisite, you don't realise. I love you and Leo. You were so genuine, and your audience like me seem to be hoping you will both connect in real life 😊🌹
Her acting skills are off the charts - couldn't agree more! If you want more from Ambika, listen to the full interview with Ambika on my podcast Reign, here: hyperurl.co/i4yxt0 Hope you love it - it's 45 minutes long so plenty more chat over there! Josh
