    No matter how long you have been doing carpentry or how much someone thinks they know, it’s always good to revisit the techniques or learn new ones from other master carpenters. This will only make you better and more knowledgeable when passing on these skills to others. I try to continuously learn more and more everyday, even as an accomplished custom finish carpenter/cabinet maker. Great job Gary and please never stop teaching, you are a true master.

      I've been remodeling bathrooms for over 18 years the other day someone taught me their way of wrapping up an extension cord and now that is the right way to do it.

    This is awesome! Thanks for posting! Although, I believe the dvd set is better! I bought the dvd set for like $200. Recently sold it for $50 after i had been offered $25 for the whole set. Yes, it's easy to find a lot of streaming videos about carpentry, but alot of the people making the videos can't stop themselves from making jokes and using B roll footage to express their personalitys. Also alot of the the videos on youtube are made as clickbait for the channels to earn commissions from reviewing products and providing links. The difference between Gary Katz and the average youtuber is professionalism! These videos are clear and conscise as it gets! Only downside to posting here is your viewers that don't have a youtube subscription will have to sit threw advertisments. That's why i like the oldschool dvd set. You don't have to go online. At the same time, being able to watch this from my phone.. whenever, wherever is definitly a plus! Gary Katz is my go-to guy for learning!

      Yeah, but there's only ads at the very beginning and you can click on SKIP to go right by them. I figured that would be the least offensive and disruptive ad.

    Hi Gary,
    Thank you for all of the time you take to make these videos to pass your craft on the others.
    The videos that you make and I watch have helped me improve my craft immensely. Just to make smarter more methodical decisions on cutting finish work. I will continue to keep watching all of your videos. Thank you again!!

    Gary, what a great trip down memory lane. Has it really been 20 years since the DVD's came out??? Wow, I can remember purchasing them from my local Woodcraft store in San Ramon Ca. . Those tips are still as great today as they where back then. I'm a talented amateur, but your tips gave me the knowledge I've used on new homes, remodels and sprucing up a lot of charity remodels over the years. Many a Boy Scout Eagle woodworking project has began with the required "safety brief" because of you.

      Hey Warren, Thank you for your note! I always enjoy hearing from that the programs made a difference. That's pretty fulfilling. And I'm so relieved that they're on Youttube now. Out of my hands....finally. Just 4 more to publish. Phew.

    like your cut list notations mine has always been measurement 1st then 45 for inside and 450 for outside with left side 2nd and right side 3rd, and when I come up on 22.5 its 22 and 220 the zero is really O for outside. I like yours better as its a little less writing and has no numbers to confuse as measurements but I don't think I can change after 30 + years, lol.

    Excellent video. I haven't seen anything produced more recently that takes the time to go into this level of detail and with this level of clarity. I would have bought the DVD set back in the day! It's funny, around 27-28 minutes, I noticed you were an inch short on your measurement and I was shocked until I realized you did it intentionally to make a point 😅

    Not all miter saws in 2022 have all the features of the one in this video. I'm sure that was a boss saw back then.

    • @THISisCarpentry
      @THISisCarpentry  Рік тому +1

      True that! But the specific miter saw has absolutely NOTHING to do with this video on how to use one.

    • @mwgrc
      @mwgrc Рік тому

      Lol, I was thinking the same thing. I got the Dewalt DWS780 a $700 dollar saw and although it has these features they are not as easy or refined as this saw. I have learned that all brands do have better models, especially Makita and Bosch if you don't shop for them at big box stores like Home Depot or Lowes as they sell the "watered down" versions as to meet the price point they are wanting, I would trade my brand new saw for this old one.

    • @mwgrc
      @mwgrc Рік тому

      @@THISisCarpentry I took it as he was complementing the saw, as that is a very nice setup and I trim houses daily. Its also a great video series that I already forwarded to my apprentice as homework to be completed before we talk about a raise, lol. I would have gladly paid for these video's had I known of there existence prior to yesterday. Guess i should have gotten on UA-cam sooner - Thanks for this.
