Great coverage, definitely would of been scary for the driver with 1500dc volts smashing the glass, and being close to the wiring, lucky the glass held up well and didn’t completely fracture the whole glass framing, I’m bit surprised the hatch came apart, makes me think it wasnt secured probably prior to its last maintenance/servicing, the wiring is pretty heavy which caused the impact
Nice video Phil 😊😀 That was Waratah A73 that the overhead wiring smashed A73. I saw A73 at Westmead when I was on Waratah A60. The screen is cracked, the desto is cracked, the driver window is cracked. The carriage is dark, you can’t even see at night or early morning like 4:00am, 5:00am, 6:00am like that. At the daytime is way easier to see the carriage. You could see a little bit but you still can’t see the carriages. Luckily, people got out of the Waratah. They stayed there for almost like 2hours, with no air conditioning. Luckily I didn’t get on Waratah A73 on Friday, If I do, I will be stuck there. Ooooh, very scary. Anyways, Nice video Phil. Great one.
Still remember the day I was on my skate board in jan 1977 in panania, my mum and dad took the. Bus home city said been a train accident, got worse and worse each day went past
Phil, (corrected your name thanks to a reminder, below.)did the wiring come down on the active driver's end or on the back of te train? Thanks for this we heard and saw it on the news after it happened. Well done!
I know why the module cover is missing on the trailer car, it’s because when the Waratah was at Panania waiting, a tree branch fell on the module cover and got it down.
No, the tree branch fell on A73 first, then the train stopped. After it stopped the over head wiring smashed it and cracked the windscreen and driver’s window
At least it's only 1.5Kv DC in the OLE, if it were to use the same voltage as much of Europe, you'd have had 25Kv AC close to the driver! Was it a faulty pantograph taking out the OLE or faulty OLE catching on a normally functioning pantograph?
I believe that a tree was blown onto the overhead wires during heavy wind causing the pantograph to get tangled up in the wiring. The passengers were held on the train for almost 2 hours until the power was cut off for that section. The front door, which has the shattered windows is actually a emergency exit and it is opened and a ramp is used to evacuate the train. The other end of the train has the same arrangement.

The following day , I had to pick up bicycle components from Fulchers Cyclery in Panania and the trip home from Glenfield took many hours .
Last Wednesday when I was going to Liverpool on A13, I saw A73 running under it’s own power.
That is because at that time A73 was already being fully repaired and has reentered service.
Nice video Phil 😊😀

When you used the term "CAN'T SEE THE CARRIAGES" you didn't clarify by saying "SEEING THE CARRIAGE INTERIORS" .

There was a single line in this location back then .
@@robertmcfadyen9156 yeah your right sometimes the rattlers were express from revesby to east hills skip panania, 👍
Quite interesting.
This was sent to Auburn maintenance centre hauled by another A set, making it a 16 car waratah
This video from NSW Transport Vlogs shows it going past ua-cam.com/video/NBvbUbAuC1w/v-deo.html
The other Waratah was A21
The other A set was Waratah A21
geez i only saw news, didn't know it got damaged that badly that windscreen held up pretty well.

Paul is @transportvlog, another great Sydney Trains youtuber. This is Phil :)
A passenger contacted Chris O'Keefe on 2GB 873AM drive show a moment after it occured at 15:50 Hours . I heard this on my home sound system .
He’s not Paul from Transport Vlog or Paul’s Train Vlogs. He’s Phil from STV Sydney Trains Vlogs.

@@tomsargentvevo9216 Yeah sorry. Always getting Paul and Phil mixed. Old age hehe. Cheers.
I saw A73 being towed by another Waratah somewhere around Strathfield. (I forgot which one it was by now)
I think the other Waratah that was being towed to A73 is Waratah A21
Now A73 can run under it’s own power

I have been on this waratah before
Would that make 2 damaged waratah a sets? I can't recall what set was the one that ran into the buffers.
A42 at Richmond .
there's been more than 2 that have been damaged slightly over the years
The other Waratah that ran into the buffers at Richmond was A42
I saw this happen on the news.
Last year.
Yeah it was a chaotic day.
The set has been fixed and is back in service.
