- TikTok is to be banned in the US from Sunday if it is not sold by its Chinese parent company, the Supreme Court has ruled.
However, President Joe Biden has said he will not enforce the ban for the few remaining hours he is in office, leaving it up to his successor Donald Trump to decide what to do when he enters the White House on Monday.

As long as they ban X and Facebook too. US social media companies gathering intel on British citizens. Yet we let them get away with it because some people forget that the US is another country, and their government has no friends. Just those they can abuse, and those who won't let them. The government can also regulate any industry or specific businesses and tell them to divest, sell, reform, or rework themselves to be compliant with local laws. Every country on Earth does this.
For those making fun of people for protesting this: TikTok had some of the most lax rules regarding freedom of speech, which doesn't exist on most social media platforms. Reddit, Facebook, UA-cam, and X being some of the worst I can think of for this. People who are educated on the topic of social media and freedom of speech have been protesting the ban because it removes one of the most viable options for getting information out there. While TikTok has a majority of its content as low-effort, attention-span-reducing content, it allowed for real reporting and whistleblowing, as well as opinions to be expressed without the fear of censorship.

Ya know back in the glory days of the internet we had to host servers, and we had to pay for the servers, and nobody knew about anyone else's websites unless we found them. Despite the seemingly insurmountable odds people did amass followings. That is still a viable option for all of the journalism people are supposedly missing out on with the removal of a single service. TikTok censors as much as any other platform, however the information allowed may be different compared across multiple sites.
