I admire Sir Tom deeply, but I suspect he underestimates the degree to which many calls for accountability (for Rowling, for instance) are inspired by reasonable concerns about harm. And it's telling that he acknowledges that his desire to do his work and live his life keeps him from a deeper engagement with the unsettling realities of Palestinian politics. I wonder if Stoppard's politics haven't always been rooted to some degree in unexamined privilege -- particularly in the Thatcher era.
