• Average White Band - P...
For the first time on the channel, we are checking out The Average White Band with their song "Pick Up The Pieces." It is safe to say that there is nothing average about this band at all! They absolutely blew the roof off the place with this one! Their groove and pocket is so deep and everyone on that stage is a top tier musician! I cannot wait to hear more from them and I hope you enjoy! #reaction #averagewhiteband #70smusic #drums #bass #funk #jazz #musicreactions

I love watching the younger generation reacting to the music of my youth and be in awe of the talent we had back then. We were so spoiled.
We certainly were❤
Almost 72 here and totally agree.
Yes, we were very spoiled...and we damn sure knew it! 😎
he "kilted" it
LOL
I see what you did there. 🤣
🤣😂🤣
An absolute MUST SEE/HEAR Classic track,, The Average White Band "Cut The Cake" Live On Soul Train Video. 🔥 TRUST ME!!
When I saw the thumbnail that you had reacted to this song, I couldn't click on the link fast enough. "He's gonna love this!" was my immediate thought, and you didn't disappoint. Great reaction. Music of my youth. Thank you for your channel.
Thanks for watching! This performance is absolutely EPIC!! 🔥
This group is made up of some pretty Funky Boys from Scotland. I remember these guys from back in the early 70s, and how everyone loved these guys. As musicians, these guys were among the best in the world.
Good stuff.
Been listening to this groove since the early 70’s. So cool to see you get so into it. One of the funkiest songs ever. Still in my regular rotation. Let’s go!
The AWB was a Scottish funk & R&B band that had a series of soul & disco hits between 74-80. They had some good songs such as "When Will You Be Mine", "Let's Go Around Again", "Cut The Cake" etc. But the instrumental song "Pick Up The Pieces" in 1975 was their biggest hit.
@@dagmar.6954 and I Got Work to Do
Thanks for showing this live performance. I now have a whole new level of love for this band and this song!
I've seen Hamish Stuart (the guy in the kilt) three times.... twice in McCartney's band and once with Ringo's All-Starr Band...
He was mostly playing rhythm with McCartney.... switching to bass whenever Paul sat at the piano, but with Ringo, he was a monster on the bass including on songs by other All-Starr members Edgar Winter, Rod Argent and Shiela E....
I've also seen Steve Ferrone once each in Clapton's band and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers .....
Let's Go!
Cheers!
Was also in David Bowie's TIN MACHINE, a very talented Scotsman.
So fun to hear this song again! And an extended live version-wow.
🇬🇧
"Lets Go Round Again" "Cut The Cake" by TAWB are well worth a reaction. They are a Scottish band, and still sound fabulous. ❤🎸🥁🎷🎹🪇🎺🎙️
Great reaction SteVen. 👍👌❤️🫂
All right my brother Stephen..... I am glad that you've got to this one. It is one of the tastiest grooves of all time ‼️💯🔥😎👍🏻
I'm enjoying your reactions to the great music I grew up on. These cats were like so many bands from back in my youth. Talented and they proved it with their performances and the mutual respect they had for each other. So many younger people are going back to older music as they are finding out what no autotune and pitch correction sound like as bands gave us their all. ❤❤❤❤
Yes! Scottish funk is in the house. I'll bet that's something you never thought you'd hear. Thank you sir, I now have my groove on and ready to face the day. ✌❤
Miss FM simulcast. I Remember tuning my stereo receiver with large speakers to the local FM radio station simulcasting TV music shows like this with the sound cranked up. It was so great!!!
What year do you think this was? I'm not familiar with this show.
I remember this song. Chicago is another talented band that used brass!
AWB also had their brilliant hits Lets Go Round Again and Queen of my Soul, both worth listening too. Lets Go Round Again just puts me in a good mood.
Not heard this in a while. Fun funky song. 🎶🎵
Funky man! Love seeing you discover older tunes! It's even better when you remind US of songs (groups) we forgot about. I had forgotten these guys. THANKS for reminding me!!! LET'S GO 🤘
As you'd say, "Let's Go"...down that AWB rabbit hole. School Boy Crush, Person to Person, Cut the Cake, If I Ever Lose This Heaven, Work to Do is a start. These are some funky fellas. Steve Ferrone is a beast on drums.
Can't believe you never heatd it
Try wild cherry play that funky music
Wild Cherry “Play That Funky Music” is on the channel! Such a fun tune! 🔥
Their version of 'Let's Go Round Again" is fantastic live!
You need to check out A Love of Your Own live. I believe they performed it at at this same venue.
Those deep pockets are filled with one helluva groove! Love how they take turns introducing each other, another sign of master class musicians.
Big r&b favorites from back in the day 🔥 check out, "School Boy Crush" or "If I Ever Lose This Heaven."👍😊
Just watched Hamish Stuart (on bass) last night on UA-cam playing with the Ringo Starr Band! Got my my morning going! So much great music to have grown up with! Remember dancing to this between local live gigs.🥰Thanks for playing this beauty!
Great way to start the week! Just for your own entertainment, listen to the Candy Dulfer version.
Beat me to it. LOL Absolutely crushed on Candy.
Havent heard this in ages.😊
They come from Scotland. They is why the man is weakening a kilt.
David Sanborn and Kenny G did a cover of this. And it's frigging awesome too.
When I'm not listening to this one, its "Cut The Cake".
the whole album is good. Take it from a 70 yr old music lover.
I grew up on AWB's music. They came out in 1972. Broke up in 1983. Reformed in 1990. They haven't released new music in a few years, however, I think they still do shows. Not sure though. Scottish funk. Who woulda thunk it? 😊
"School Boy Crush". 'Nough said.
that's steve ferrone on drums he also has played with duran duran- eric clapton- tom petty- chaka khan and many other band and vocalist studio and live great legend funk drum average white band is the band from scotland feronne is from england !
Bought their album for 2 songs--and this was one.
Steve , this song came out in 1977 by Scottish band Average White Band. Like you said , they are far above average. They've been at it for decades and are tight as a vise. They have a few other songs that got some attention but this song was their biggest hit. Check out Cut The Cake next.
I was in a jazz band as a teenager and we played this a lot...by request, lol. Nothing's especially "predictable" in this classic. I was glad that I learned the bass as well as playing my horn. Made for a unique switch up.
Great song and reaction
Check out "Cut The Cake" - another great AWB funk jam.
Nothing adverage about this white band ✌️& ❤️
Pure talent i like the way the sax player stepped back for the others solo Pros all of them
If you like this you must watch the version from Daryls House of Daryl Hall John Oats fame. Daryl has a farm house studio turned small jam place and invites other musicians to jam with his band. It is now actually a very small, cozy intimate concert place, out on his farm.
So much stank extra strength Febreze won’t help….STAY FUNKY !!!!🤨🔥🎸🎶🔥
🤣😂🤣
One of my favorite tunes-the funk is real in this one! Gotta love a Scottish funk/r&b band!! The story goes that the name comes from some studio exec listening to an early song of theirs and saying, "they're just another average white band". It stuck!
two songs Holt Young Soulfull Strut and Shackatak Night Bird (Live)
Average White Band - A Love of Your Own
Drummer Steve Steve Ferrone had been playing with Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers for many years and he has toured with Eric Clapton many times. He is in much demand.
... hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1975.
I was a kid when this song came out but I totally remember my best friend's older brother, who was a senior in high school, had this 8-track and would play it in his lowrider. If he gave us a ride somewhere and played this 8-track, we totally thought we were riding high. We would smoke our candy cigarettes in the car thinking nobody could tell, and that we were players. You could totally tell those were candy cigarettes and we looked like a couple of dweebs. Anyways, both of us thought he was totally cool, so that meant we thought this song was totally cool. It still is.
My man went so low during that sax solo I thought his lung was about to pop out the end. Dang, that was good. Ik this song, heard their name many times and prob know more songs, but I've never seen them before. I thought our man in the kilt was slapping that bass. Only bc I don't think I've ever seen a guitar without the tuners on the end. Only bass. But they all killed it.🤟🤟
He really did! They all tore it up! 🔥
2 of the 4 brothers, Alto and tenor saxes, tenor had the solo. Soprano and baritone are the others, although there are deeper than bari out there, pretty rare. And The 4 Brothers is the title to a song featuring, yep, saxes
While Steve Ferrone is a phenomenal drummer, RIP to original drummer Robbie McIntosh, who died from an accidental heroin overdose in 1974 (he thought it was cocaine.) AWB, in my opinion, is surpassed in the "horn-driven funk" category only by Earth, Wind, and Fire and Tower of Power.
You could always keep the Scottish theme rolling - Big Country, Simple Minds, Nazareth, Proclaimers...
I'm sure you'll like their "School boy crush"
Now that you have seen AWB doing this, you should look for a Japanese girl group doing this, Amazing. THE JAZZ AVENGERS🎷Pick Up the Pieces(cover)
This song makes me want to dance like Sam Rockwell
Check out “ Cut The Cake”
Hey Brother, Sorry to beat it again but, Phil Collins Big Band does this song. Giving sax solos to all the living great of the time. It's about a 20 minute song. It's on utube...
It seems the tightest bands are the ones that have horns in them. WAR is my favorite example of that and tightness. Love AWB as well.
Chicago
Seems like I had this on my K-tel 36 Super Gold Hits back in 76 [at the river old age of 9
This show was 1988, I was 21.
Never a band I gave a second thought. Now I wanna do a deep dive.
Honestly I know the song cuz it was one of the songs between I was digging. Stuck amidst Styx, Deep Purple, Roxy Music, Hall & Oats, and the band that was my 1st Concert, the funkiest- KC & The Sunshine Band, who you should totally check out my all time Fave by KC & TSB: "Keep It Comin' Love"
If this dont bring a smile to your face something is wrong with you I grew up hearing this on the radio almost daily it was that popular But i never saw them live unfortunately
When people actually played music
👍
Let's Gooo! Such a great vibe. Please Please please check out Tragically Hip New Orleans is sinking studio version 🙏 Great reaction and Peace out Steven ☮️ ✌️ 🙏 Makes you want to smack your Gramma OMG I'm dying. I've had a thing for the sax when I went to Bob Seger for my first concert 😅
Are you doing a Scottish series? First Lulu, then AWB 🙂
You should react to Al Stewart's Year of the Cat. That's a banger.
Mmmm... Maybe a few songs by Garbage? or Jack Bruce?
@@massimosaffioti8798 oh, yes!
scotlands best
Steve Ferrone is pretty far from average or white, lol. He's played on a million things but probably best known as the drummer for Tom Petty for years after Stan Lynch left. The original drummer died after snorting heroin at a Hollywood party, assuming it was coke. The story is he died with Cher cradling him in her arms after he fell over. What a waste.
Shewee!! That’s a wild story! 😬
The band should be called Average 1970's White Band.
What’s up brother . I didn’t play anything but had drummers on both side of me growing up one went to cali did studio work for a couple decades now this jazzy funk rock stuff was mastered by steely dan listen to there royal scam album n Aja also can’t buy a thrill it’s legendary stuff 70s 80s yea this is tight they always say this is the stuff musicians listen to when they get off work , be safe man happy holidays ! 😎🤘🏻
