GOD BLESS AND THANKS FOR WATCHING
If you want to keep your hairstyle longer without having to worry about your posting schedule, you could prerecord videos
Good point
She should see this!
...It's a good thing she took those braids out when she did, in this case. Just don't ever use edge control with extensions again, Jess. 😨
Tip: de-tangle the individual braided hair as your taking them out. This way when it’s all down you don’t have 1 big monster to de-tangle
Just future reference Edge control is not made to braid or twist hair. Conditioning Gels ie: Shin n Jam, are made for braiding and twisting. They help keep your hair from getting too frizzy while styled and give a nice finish and they don’t dehydrate your hair.
Great tip!
It also takes practice to do braids neatly. I have natural hair and don't put product like that when getting it braided. It's just washed conditioned oiled and stretched
Back in the day when I wore extensions, 1989 -1994, I only used Kemi Oil for two- to three-month stretches of maintenance. With about as much hair loss/shedding and no gooey residue.
"Who gon pay the light bill? "
Preach 🙌😂
hahah just needed to shed some light on the situation lol

Serena Potter Hey girl! Let’s grow together (: please check out my passion twist tutorial on my channel 😜💖
And different hairstyles to do with twist
I keep my protective styles in for 2-3 months🤣
Ikr like who has the time to keep taking them out !When I put that in I'm like bye hair lol sometimes I just can't deal with my hair too long
Jealous! No matter what my hair can only handle a month. I'd love a break for 2-3 months! 🤣
Me too! Well 2 months the max for me. I love getting a break from handling my natural hair, in addition I give it time to grow due to less manipulation. I have my mom help me unravel the braid-ins and detangle my natural hair after because she’s more gentle than me. Last but not least braided protective hairstyles over here are a bit pricey so I’m normally not in any rush to take them out.🤷🏽♀️
deborah g Hey girl! Let’s grow together (: please check out my passion twist tutorial on my channel 😜💖
We lose 100 strands of hair a day
7 days in a week × 2 14 days x 100 is 1,400 I think the shedding was pretty normal. I know how you feel try green tea rinses before protective styles
I don't know if anyone else does this but when taking out my braids or twists and I cut them, it makes a really cute bob because my hair is quite short so I rock with it for a few days...
sometimes I burn the ends too😂
i think about it every single time lol
Me toooo
I was also going to suggest acv. I also use Cantu shea butter acv root rinse to help detangle or prepoo when I've been kinda rough on my hair and have obvious tangles. This product is amazing!
Yup! I put the hair jewels in them
😂😂😂😂😂😂
When your hair is in that state warming up the conditioner and deep conditiioner will have a really good result, as well as using only warm water
Good tip,the day before you take your hair down do a hot oil treatment while it's still up,it makes take downs much better
This video was good sis. It's okay to show a little emotion if your sad about your hair. It made you more relatable. And the way you claimed your crown at the end was flawless. Beautiful sis.
You always keep your hair looking nice. Wish I could do that.
aw thank you so much =)
@@OnlyOneJess You're welcome. Much Love.
You can
I would’ve left my hair in that twistout after you took the twists out. Your hair looked so defined!
I agree.....
Defined, but it would have been even harder for her to detangle.
I learned this lesson after doing these twists as well. If you use anything that’s sticky, it will kinda “loc” your hair. The best thing ive ever used was the AG texture gloss. When you take your hair down, the sticky gel feeling is not there it just feels smooth and moisturized. It’s expensive but worth it!
After you cut the twists that was cute. You should do the short ones next time. Also(now this is extra work) when I take down my poetic justice braids I detangle each braid individually with acv and a fine tooth comb
Kenn I use coconut oil
girl i was thinking about it lol but yea thats not a bad idea, whatever it takes to keep that hair in good shape!
Kenn
When I do my take down, I have water and conditioner and my wide tooth to detangling once I do that I put the acv on my head for the extra cleaning and leave it for about an hour
😂😂 I just love Jess’s personality.
lol aw than you!!
👏🏾 "Praying hands method on em" 😂
Protective styles can also damage the hair despite popular belief of only having benefits as the extensions weigh the hair down and put tension on the hair, (more than the hair can handle) resulting in hair loss.
That’s why you use the right amount of hair per section. Too many people use these styles and don’t know what they’re doing
Kaylyn Boyd I agree!
You're great. When I take my braids out, I pre-poo with oil mix, where it a day or so then wash. Lol there is no way I can do all that at one time
Yes girl that is a lot of shed hair! I think it was because if all the edge control.
Lovely twist out at the end 🙂
Klovely7 maybe bc i had the same prob last mnth frm my passion twist
You should try the tangle teezer brush. Its super easy to detangle with and it cuts down on breakage and detangling time.
omg yes you're right! i used to have one and it worked so well but my mom used it to blow dry her hair and the teeth melted -__- lol
You are helping this grandma so much dear. Thanks for sharing!
15:35 😭😭😭🙏🏼 that's how I moisturize my hair lol it turned out really nice! I always dread wash day after taking out twists/braids but the style is so convenient
I've learned that when taking down braids I have to detangle as I go along one by one! I comb out each one after I take it out and make sure to loosen all the build up at the roots. Anytime I try to detangle after I've taken them all down it's a nightmare! Once I had to cut out parts of my hair! Never again lol I hope this helps!
I didn't think your video was boring at all. Your reaction to the airplane passing had me cracking up. 😂😂😂
Oh no you gotta detangle braid by braid. I felt ya pain because I been there before.
Whenever I had protective styles and lightly moisturized daily, I lost a lot of hair when I took it down. When I drenched my hair at least twice a week, it made a world of a difference at takedown. It was easier to take down too.
Story of my freaking life!! Not detangling* my hair after taking out a protective style that I'd had for about 2mos.
Simple takedown, thought the style was cute & didn't look dirty so I figured I'd rock it for a day. Hopped in the shower & accidentally got it wet, figured oh well, might as well just wash it now. #Fail I had a HORRIFIC, MATTED MESS on my head. Hrs & hrs of NO success. I cried, freaked out & punched a hole in the wall. (Yikes!) Called my friend to buy me a fresh pair of hair scissors and chop chop. 3yrs LATER... head full & thick like yours! 💞
AppleBomb For a minute there I thought I wrote this! I had the same thing happen years ago. Called my hairstylist crying my eyes out. She said come in right away. Then she said We can either sit here for the next three plus hours trying to get thru this matted hair or cut it all off.
Same exact thing happened to me, sans the hole in the wall. I obviously didnt know how to treat my hair post protective style. Let me tell you, I LEARNED THAT DAY!! It was the start of my natural hair/learning my hair process. So was really a blessing in a nightmare disguise
@@randilockett6435 WOW. Never had a tangled mess that made a big chop an option. You ladies are hair soldiers, now. 🏁
I got to the end of the video. So glad for the turnaround. After the deep treatment your hair resurrected 😀
Celebrating with u 💃🏾
Your hair was super cute after taking it down that could of been a style 😊 but the twist out at the end GIRL it is Bomb 💣💥 🙌🏾 super cute!
Be careful of the rice water rinse. I used it once a week for a month and my hair started falling out like crazy. I found out I had protein overload which caused my hair to feel like straw, break easy and it was coming out in handfuls on wash day. Since then I check all the products I use. While doing the rice water rinse the other products I used also had protein in them so now I only use 1 product that has protein until it’s under control.
If you're low porosity be careful with the rice water. It contains 16% protein.
Shalana A Smith I’m high porosity but that all changed when I bleached my hair which I didn’t kno it was gonna do that. I had never had an issue b4 with bleaching my hair but then again I wasn’t doing the natural thing either. There’s so many different combinations that can totally throw u off. I’m now waiting on the bleached parts to grow out bcuz I’m not cutting off my hair 😂 it took me too long to get here.
Desquonia Lilly if i use rice water and my hair isn’t falling out then i don’t have protein overload? i am low porosity and i use it every 2 weeks
heaven I would just be careful everyone’s hair isn’t the same but just check the products that u use so ur not overdoing it with protein.
Heyy Babygurl, your final result was beautiful! NEVER apologize for being upset. Nobody with sense expected you to be happy go lucky about all the EXTRA hair you loss. None of us would be either and I just went through the same for SEVERAL wash days due to protein deficient High Porosity Hair. It's hard to see that much hair go down "the drain". You'll bounce back though!
Why I scrunch my face too with you @8:19 lol, all naturals felt that. #naturalsbelike
hahaha i truly appreciate you lol
It feel like forever since you did a video missed u girl
im trying to figure out a good posting schedule still
she literally posted her last video 6 days ago and then another video like a week before that. what do u want daily videos? give the girl a break
could be the dye in you hair taking its tole on your strands - try a hot oil treatment hun, and no silicone products
Yeah you right. Problems with dye start creeping up on you lol. Happened to me. I slowly cut all the color out my hair as the years went on. No more dye for me 😂.
Yes that's what I was thinking. That's how my hair looked before it broke off after wearing it blonde for months.
yesss they really do creep up. i had my hair dyed red for a few months and contemplated big chopping again lol. luckily i decided to try dyeing it back to black and the transformation was nearly a miracle lol
I totally agree.
I think its it's the dye too because her hair is not getting enough moisture through her twist
You are one of the few youtubers that I can watch a 20 min video of without fast forwarding
OKAY! You look so goodddddddd! And girl you can't always have the energy! We still love you!
I just took my twist out too and had an extreme amount of shedding also and I didn’t use edge control or any gel. I think it could just be that our hair doesn’t like being mixed with other hair.
Girl you don’t t have to apologize! It be like that sometimes, that was just real and I rather you be real than fake. And I thought you were going to show a lot bigger hair ball than what you showed! That was NOT too much hair to lose for 2 weeks of not coming your hair, you’re good girl!!! 😘
When she kiss har teeth the Jamaican just come right out 😂
I love how you just kept in real. You showed how you felt with a difficult wash day, which one of us naturalistas hasn't had at least one of those!
So pleased you hair perked back up. That's down to you understanding what it needs to be 'happy'.
It would be really helpful if you put the products you use (and their purpose) in the description box. I had to keep rewinding to see which repair cream you used.
Thanks for sharing 😍
USE RICE WATER WHEN YOU DETANGLE!! Mix it with your conditioner &/or deep conditioner. It helps with detangling my 4b/4c hair after protective styling for weeks
That's what I do. It's worked wonders 🙌🏾
Lol at the detangle moment with the comb "uh it hit me" and the praying hands look 😂😂. Jess you are so funny 💯
I watched the whole video in one sitting, all the way thru sis you're never boring HOWEVER I did feel your pain in the beginning lol
Lovee the video... It gives off real life events and truthfulness ... Also nevea seen the banding method done on twist before u take the twist. Down your the first one ive ever seen it done on... I'm have to try that
Great job on the end results. It was a lot of work but the things we do to keep our hair healthy.
right!? poor us lol thank you =)
Love this video! Thanks for keeping it real. And that final twist out was everything!
Girl u shoulda rocked those short twist for a few more weeks
Great results. I had box braids recently and had a similar HORRIBLE removal and wash day. Took so much of hair out. 🤦♀️
thank you! and yea this was so annoying. protective styles taking a back seat for a second lol
First off, you are ADORABLE ❤️. Secondly, your hair turned out amazing! Thanks for the video! Glad you still have hair. Lol
I appreciate your honest experience because we all have those days sometimes
I just took out some faux locks last night at ten 💀 I washed deep conditioned and styled my hair. Didn’t finish until almost two am 🙄 but I’m glad you’re hair came out how you wanted ❤️
Your twist out was bomb! Good thing you took your passion twist out when you did!
Trick to prevent excessive shedding is to section your hair, condition each section without combing through, go back to the first section and it should be ready to detangle.
Looks amazing!!!! And you better give me auntie with all the money vibes 😍😍😍 hair looks great
"Praying hands on em" 😂😂 loved that one. Also, no thats not a lot of breakage. Especially with how long you had your hair in the twists.
When u have these kinda of protective styles I think u should pre-poo and finger detangle first then a conditioner with lots of slip and water (if necessary) shampoo that really cleans ur hair n continue from there
My opinion after a protective style like braids you will lose a lot of hair.... we lose hair everyday and not doing anything to it for two weeks yeah that was a good amount of hair you lost.... what i usually do to my daughters hair is while braided i make sure she oil her scalp 2x a week.. then when when taken it out finger Detangle don’t use a comb at all... and try a shampoo and conditioner for detangling... it works and help less shedding.... But you good with the amount that came out... loved the end of ur twisted out...
That WAS a lot of shedding. But you navigated it! Twists & twistout looked great. Side note: many folks have had issues with passion twist takedowns causing tangles and/or damage, so you're not alone!
Jess you and your hair are so beautiful. Truly stunning.
omg thank you so so much =)
Jess: who goin' to pay my light bill
Me: surely not me!😁😅
OMG thank you for this video I've had my twist in for 3 weeks and thought I did something wrong I had about 5 to unravel and I've had to tighten a few I couldn't find videos of people having the same issues. But I'd do them again cause there light and easy to work with
Ooooooo Jess come though with a whhhhhhooooollleee wash n style video all in one love these type of video 😍😂😂
“Who gone pay my light bill” period Jess. Period.
I mean u could’ve done a how to keep ur twist neat cuz it was too nice to be takin out but it’s cool🤩
Probably should have drenched your hair with water under the shower instead of using the spray bottle before doing the pre poo with the conditioner....think that would have helped with getting some of the edge control out and make it easier for you to detangle. But volume is point ❤🇯🇲
Yea! I've been waiting to see u do the rice water challenge!!
I love your videos. Next time use a co-wash or clarifying conditioner to break down the tackiness of the edge control.
2weeks? lol im not a youtuber just a natural who loves to switch up😂😂
Regular tea rinses help tremendously with excessive shedding!
I have to use a paddle brush or my felicia brush wide tooth combs break my hair and makes it matted because it dont get everything maybe you shouldof used a paddle brush because thats alot of hair
Girl you need to get the all things natural Bohemian collection leave in for detangling. Guaranteed it top all your favorite. Amazing slip and moisture
Yassss! I’m so hyped for this rice water challenge! This made my day 😭❤️
I don't think the hair lose was a lot. You gotta remember its 2 weeks worth of shedding and you shed, average, 100 strands a day. You're hair is just thick so it looks like more. But maybe next you should try a twist and lock gel. African pride had a black castor oil one that has a similar texture to edge control but it won't leave your hair feeling dry and sticky.
Yea girl and I need details in how you do the challenge, and also the advantage and disadvantage of it. I can't wait.
Beautiful style. I did them once left them in for 4 weeks, cried during the take down, never again
I'd recommend using jam next time. The hold is softer, but that also means that there won't be as much tangling. 😊
I just subscribed to you after you last video came out and I’ve been waiting for you to upload again🤗. You’re so pretty and you look like you could be deon richmond(Jordan from Sister, Sister) sister lol
omg you're so sweet. and haha i can def see that lol loved that show btw, i sill watch it everyday lol
Jess. Are you sure it's all your hair
Cant it be some of the synthetic hair
THAT GROWTH THOUGH SIS!!!!!!!
I used to use Botanicals anti-breakage braid release spray to avoid losing a lot of hair while removing my braids. It worked for me.
I just took out my twist & I most certainly feel your pain. Your hair still looks gorgeous. I'll have to try that wetline/curl cream combo!
i felt this video on a spiritual level. my hair hates protective styles like when i do braids and stuff it’s always a set back for me. it does way more harm than good for me😭 i’m scarred ion think i’m going to ever do braids again
They still look good . Lmaooooo who gone pay my light bill😂😂😂
Girl when you smacked your lips I died laughing.
You don’t really wear makeup and you’re still a stunner😍
So I found a product that I think u should try 2 detangle your hair, I used it after crochet braids for a month. I just damped my hair and literally a quarter size amount of product. It's by shea moisture, low porosity protien free leave-in detangler! I want 2 leave a picture but I'm gonna figure it out
TFS! I have this experience almost every wash day. Sometimes I just dread doing my hair. Yours turned out so well. I will try this routine. Hopefully it works out.
This was one of your best video! I enjoyed the details because I feel by hair is having a hard time on my right side it just doesn't show up to play. You remind me I need to deep condition and add more moisture like grape seed oil and to use my heat cap. Thanks for a great video look forward to the rice challenge.
Exactly girl, my hair is healthy enough, I just need the length.
Twist out looks so good 😍💕
I’m kinda glad you did another video so soon lol :) Your hair looks bomb at the end! I’m trying hear more about this rice water journey you on too! 💪🏾
I think the extra hair shed may be caused by detangling with just water first and then using the conditioner. I used to do that but now I only detangle my hair with conditioner to give me the slip I need to retain length
Super cute at the end! This definitely motivated me to do my hair when I get off work lol thanks Jess!
after the take-down, you had a bomb-ass twist out... it looked real pretty you should have rocked that for a while.
Your hair looks good as always. Keep the videos coming.
aw thank you love! =)
No setbacks in 2019 🙌🏾👏🏾
Idk tho, I didn't think it was a lot of hair. It was 2 weeks worth... and some ppl shed more than others... but this is always why I don't think "protective styling" is for everyone. Like I can feel my hair and scalp miss water after a few days.
Also can you do a tutorial on this parts for the twist out because for real it's a struggle
i have so many twist out tutorials im afraid to be repetitive =(
I understand that low energy feeling. There’s nothing worse than you’re hair just not doing what it’s supposed to. Glad it bounced back 💁🏾♀️
Ya hair definitely grew Jess... 😍😍😍
