I watched your video and was so scared to "delete generated library files" because I thought it would screw something up, but I was so relieved when I did it and saw that nothing in my project had changed, and I had 315 gigs available on my hard drive now. Life saver. Thank you so much!

Thanks mate it saved, apple always fills up Chache memories to run their system fast in the beginning, but they should find a way to keep clearing Chache memory so that their products may keep running fast every time. 👍

After I watched your video I cleared the Cache in the File and it has more space now what a relief! Thank you really appreciate your video! So if we have finished some videos and still working on a couple of videos, we can go still go to File and click Deleted Generated Files?
Glad the video helped! Yes you can delete the generated files as much as needed. If you use proxy or optimized files you can delete all of those when you're finished your project also. It won't delete your original files.
Hi there! Why do we need not transcode to optimized/proxy media with newer Macs? I've asked because I get the "storage full" message all the time while editing my travel vlogs, and I have an M2 chip Macbook Air. Am I filming using wrong settings from my iPhone? I don't film in ProRes, usually just 4K 24fps.
The reason I said that is the newer Macs handle compressed video formats really well. So you don't need to create additional files and take up extra space if your machine can handle the native files as they are. Hope that helps. I’ve done this and my video still won’t fully export, restarted comp, application, and deleted things from my Mac. It exports half way then just stops.. help pls😅
If the video is stuck and won't export at a particular part in the timeline, usually it has something to do with an effect or something at that part of the project. So if it gets to say 50% of the export and gets stuck, look halway throough the timeline and change whatever is happening there and see if that helps.
okay hi, it's year later and I do clear out my render files often. My FCP is still taking up 416GB, I've deleted projects and gone into my video folder and cleared things out. not sure what to do, any advice?
HELP! What do I do if it says "Delete Generated Clip Files" instead of "Library Files"? Did they just change the wording and does it mean the same thing? When I select that, "Delete Render Files" does not appear in the pop up box. Only the boxes for Optimized Media and Proxy Media, which I can see you did not click on. I don't know where to go from here. I transferred a ton of media files over to my LaCie earlier and trashed any other unneeded media from my Mac, yet still got a pop up about not enough storage space. That's what led me back to this video. I don't know why I still don't have enough storage space.
That's because you have a clip selected in your timeline. Click and select the library in your browser window and it will delete all render files in the Library, which is what you want to do.

Hey bro was watching your tutorial. I’m having some troubles exporting current frames. When I go to export a frame it doesn’t export it stays at 0%. Not sure what to do I deleted generated files but still nothing, do you know how to fix this issue ?
It shouldn't prevent you from sharing the project. However if there's still a lot of effects to be rendered then that will cause the cache to go back up. Clearing the cache once it's done rendering whatever you're working on will help clear space to render future effects.
Would you say its OK to delete all (not just unused) generated library files even if I did not finish editing yet? I am fine with waiting longer to have it rendered at the end but do want to make 100% sure that I dont this "missing files" message on my timelines.
I tried your way but it didn't worked on my Final Cut Pro 10.6.6. After doing the "Delete Generated Library Files" still there no rendered files are deleted from the project. My project media file size is 17 GB but after rendering it became 114 GB. After doing the "Delete Generated Library Files - Delete Render Files - Unused only" not a single GB of space is freed.
That’s strange. Sometimes it takes a while for the number to update. Also you have a lot of effects that need to render it can also fill right back up.

I tried this, after It rendered the first time the cache went right back up to the number it was at, not allowing me to share the project
