This video was such a life saver, I just bought a brand new Mac and it was fine with final cut at first, but today I finished working on a video I put so much effort into and it said there's not enough disk space. So I deleted everything off of my Mac but the more apps I deleted the more space final cut documents took, it felt like it was just sucking up all the space I was trying to free. I'm so happy I found this.

when I finish a project/video I export the 4k into a separate SSD. I delete the entire library. takes huge amounts of space with all that generated files. Your tip is great while still working in a project.
Yes getting rid of the entire library when done will clear space. Also if you want to back up the library to another drive, then delete all the render files to make it smalller and easier to store.

Yes. I’m actually making a video about this. Optimized media will definitely take up additional space. The flip side is that optimized media makes it easier to edit.
The compromise is to use proxy files.
This is IN👏🏼CRE👏🏼DI👏🏼BLE👏🏼 !! Just cleared up 150BG of space that I never thought I'd be able to get back without deleting the entire app. Thank you, thank you 🙏🏼💙

@@CreativeTechLab It's actually not solved. It was solved for half an hour and then it kept coming up. I guess it's because half of my library is on external disks and the other half on my computer. Not sure how to sort this out. I dragged the libraries already to the external drive and also saved it in FCPX but it keeps giving this 'disk is full' pop up. Any ideas?
Could depend on you setup your videos. Do you have a different library for single every video? Or do you have one library with multiple events?
However you have your setup, make sure to clear the cache out of anything you're not working on anymore. You can do this for a Library, Event, or Project.
Also if you use Optimized media or Proxies. I'd delete those once you're done as they take up room.

I have an updated video coming on this. But it depends. I do it periodically when working on a big project because the render files can pile up. Then when I'm done editing the porject I'll do it again. But at that point I'll delete all render files, along with and optimized and proxy media, to clear as much space as possible.

Hey man for some reason i am only getting the option to delete generated clip files, not delete generated library files. What should i do?
Hey not exactly sure. But make sure you select the library first and not just the project you’re currently working on. That may solve your issue.

Thanks, still works great in 2022. Quick question, should you delete all files or just the unused ones.
If you're still working on the porject I'd recommend just deleting the unused ones. That way your project will render faster when you're ready to export.

Question: you said that a newer Mac with the M-series chips might not need proxy or optimized media- but I’m having FCPX lagging issues on a 2021 MacBook Air M1. Any thoughts? I currently don’t optimize media but was going to try it out.
I personally don't have any issues with files on my m1 Mac. However it may depend on what camera files/codecs you're using. Give optimized media a shot and it may solve your issues

Thanks for that add. The issue was to create the problem we’re talking about, I needed a full hard drive. If I had a full hard drive from FCPX it would stop the the recording before it was done.
