Great Video Jeff as always! I like your new tool you made. Very informative as always. Thanks for teaching us how to make new components for our hammock camping!
Yup lot's of different way to do it. This method is made for people who are not wanting to tie complex knots but have a fast and effective shackle with a short piece of rope . The ranger knot it not really needed and adds more to fiddle with , if the security is need the loop on the end can be a lark's headed onto the knot
thanks, Jeff, video much appreciated. I watched that last video of yours showing how to use fast shackle in hanging the hammock over and over again until I was pretty sure I had figured out how you tied this from stopping and looking at the images of the fast shackle from various angles. Then I bought some from you off of Etsy when you put some up for sale. Now having looked at those I bought and watching this video verifies that I did figure it out. Wanted to also say thanks for all your videos because they have taught me pretty much all I needed to know to hang my hammock without hardware. I also wondered if you have made an adjustable fast shackle with this idea. In other words - Instead of using a dog bone, or different sizes of soft shackles or continuous loops - I had wondered if a long fast shackle with several 1.5-inch loops (each Brummel spliced) at 1" spacing would give me the ability to do easier small step adjustments. Especially in those situations where I was having a problem getting it just right and find myself getting frustrated having to use a continuous loop, dogbone, soft shackle, along with a whoopie or some other such combination due to tree spacing, etc. I found for me that with the adjustable fast shackle, I was able to make some small quick adjustments so that with the combination of the adjustable fast shackle AND the whoopie sling alone I was able to make some quick adjustments for the hang faster than just a whoopie or another combination. So two adjustable fast shackles (6 loop steps) and two 8 foot whoopie slings have pretty much been all I've needed so far in my testing but it sure looks like that is all I may need. (I do carry a 6 ft. dogbone and a few feet of Dyneema just in case 😁) So thanks for your videos they really help me think outside the box on hanging my hammock in all kinds of places without having to use hardware IF I don't want to. It may not be necessary BUT for me it is fun.
@@jeffmyers7062 yep - so I doubled the length put a burried 2" pull handle Brummel splice at the bend and then proceeded to make the loops with Brummel splices etc. Seems to work good, just not sure if it is more useful? easier?, maybe just in my mind or simply because I seeminly need fewer 'connections'?? But thought I'd ask.
@@jeffmyers7062 which webbing do you use there and do you use clips/buckles, prusik knots, or the becket hitch? I use the 1" venom ul straps and the becket hitch going through the universal loops. Pretty satisfied with it but the fiddly part is that the venom straps always curl up... I've seen your video how to flatten them but it's a bit annoying 😕
Nice demo. Do you think a figure of 8 knot might be better with dyneema or is that unnecessary? Not very complex to tie and some say less inclined to slip than overhand. I guess you want two things from the knot: 1) nicely-shaped 'bulk' to make the button and 2) reliable strength and lack of slippage.
@@jeffmyers7062 Doesn’t it lose some strength because of the knot? I’m not really worried, already tried hanging in the ones I made and they held just fine, just wondering 👌
@@jeffmyers7062 : Fair enough. I made a couple of your _Tree Clips_ using only ⅛" Amsteel and they have served me well for about a year and a half now. I thought I might run into problems using rope smaller than the 3/16" you used in your tutorial, but I've had no issues.
Thank you Jeff. I'd love to see how you would do a hardware free solution to the zpacks duplex doors (double hook) with a way of tensioning from inside the shelter. Would be the same for inside a tarp with doors no doubt. Love your channel.
I'm using these and they work GREAT!!
thank you for the work !
Absolutely LEGIT!
Thank you
Thank you Jeff. I really may give this a try.
awesome you should !

thanks !
Thanks Jeff, awesome vid on this soft shackle, will have to make a couple for my bridge.
Awesome !
A. A diamond knot would do the same thing and look pretty... also... you could add a ranger knot to slide onto the knot for security.

No I have not done that . It would need two stands all the way

cool. thanks
thank you !
Hey Jeff, would you mind showing us your current preferred suspension setup on your gathered end hammocks? Greetings
hey its my universal loops in the gathered end , and a set of 15 foot straps with evo loops on the tree side

for the use that these shackles are made for the figure 8 is not need and the two strands in a double overhead knot cinch up perfectly
Yay!
thanks !
Don't see links for the tools in the description.
check again I just added em
Can I buy two of those fast shackles off of you?.
for sure , message me via email or check out my eBay www.ebay.com/itm/284066033282?
Hello ! What length would you use for a continuous loop replacement version ? Thanks !
well how long do you want your loops? Look at how much I used for these and add what you need. 30-34 inch should be plenty though
@@jeffmyers7062 Thanks !
Where did you get that graphing pad you used to measure?
I got this one on Amazon, Walmart, and many others have it too. Its fabric cutting board
Any idea what they are rated for in load?
It's 1600 tensile line.Far stronger than needed for a hammock line.
@@jeffmyers7062 Doesn’t it lose some strength because of the knot? I’m not really worried, already tried hanging in the ones I made and they held just fine, just wondering 👌
Yes , the knot , the splice , the bend, all reduce strength
Have you abandoned your _No Hardware Tree Clip_ for this?
No never. This is just another option for those who want something fast and easy and versatile!
