So cool that i have this NZXT H510 case for my 1st build. It has so many great reviews on Amazon, that I didn't initially know about the airflow issue. I wanted to exchange it for the better airflow upgraded ones, but I've already disposed of the box....which I normally never do!! I also have a DeWalt cutting wheel. I thought about this type of mod, but hadn't researched grills to use in the cutouts. Plus the idea of cutting into a brand new case for my 1st build seemed like a bad one. Thanks for making this video just for ME!!
I really wish I had found this video before did not know about these vents. I am sitting down looking at these at amazon and making some plans for some modding. Thank you

I really like the look of this mod. I have this case for my PC and it does fine for my use, but when its time to upgrade I am 100% gonna buy these and do a nice paint job on my case. Thanks for this one Jay.
This mod looks really good, it adds a nice touch to the case in addition to the airflow. Would like to see more cheap/easy mods or ways to customize your PC
AC Infinity sells some really nice covers - The only issue is that depending on what country you live in Amazon charges almost nothing or wants an arm and a leg.
I'm from Brazil, and I'm at the "an arm and a leg" gang... I saw the product and legit wanted one of their plates+fan+controller combo for my HTPC cabinet :( Chose the Airplate S7, tried their website, and boom, 97USD shipping for a 40USD product. Amazon charges me $70 for shipping AND import duties, which is still a hefty cost, but probably worth it given that it's a product that doesn't exist in the domestic market (and their fans are tuned for 5V, which means I can power them from the USB port in my HTPC)
I got a 6700xt and a 5800x in this case because it was the only case available. Temps work out ok but I have a super strange fan direction layout that gets dust inside like you wouldn't believe. Purchased one of those plus dust filters to all arrive tomorrow because I plan on upgrading to a 3080 this summer thanks to the low prices at the semi-nearby micro center.
@HI PSI Yes and it does indeed do that a little but like 95% gets caught on the edges of the front panel luckily. I'll probably change up my fan speeds to alleviate that though. I already use an air purifier so dust takes a long time to collect thankfully
I had planned on chopping my case up this weekend and install magnetic filters in the cut out but you just introduced me to this. I saw they have one that will support 3x120mm fans. Only 20 bucks for much more airflow!
This is great, because just 2 weeks ago I got fed up running my case without the front and top panels (did so for alsmost 2 yrs now) I'm gonna order some stuff and then break out the angle grinder! Good jerb, I always like your modding and troubleshooting content the best.
i got 2 of them and they are now installed on my H510 ... Amazing fit. Great airflow. They sold out the next day. Of course they would... JTC approved!!!!! Thank you
Love a good airflow mod. My first PC had a glass front panel with inch gap for airflow on the side. Temps were crap. Took a heat gun, removed the glass and glued a mesh to the front. Easy fix.
What an awesome mod for this case, it fits so well with the theme and jay was able to do it in a blink, hopefully ge gets to do a black and white themed build there someday Great video as always
Just did this mod yesterday using the white grills. I was able to get a 240mm Kraken x53 rad on the top of the case by removing the LED strip that goes across the top and placing the grill off center where the rad cleared the memory modules and heatsinks for the VRMs on the MOBO. As long as you dont mind the rad being held in place by 4 screws on one of the fan mounts it works
This reminds me of my old days of Casemodding. Soldering blue LEDs to clear Enermax-Fans, creating Fanducts from Coke-bottles and sheetmetal as frontpanels. Lovely. I appreciate all the new stuff but I miss the old times where you really HAD to do stuff to make your case look awesome.
who doesn't want a pretty good excuse to cut and case mod!??! Nice job Jay!! :D - I love NZXT cases, but they are so poor in airflow that I gave up on them
They get alot of crap but they really aren't that bad. For a 70 dollar case as long as you aren't putting super high TDP stuff then it really it isn't going to choke anything as long as you leave it as only exhaust fans. Gamers nexus even showed un there h500 review that in comparison to other cases it wasn't that much worse or louder. So for 70 bucks you get a case that can very easily handle say a 3060 and a i5 or R5 cpu that still looks very modern and sleek. I know this because the PC I built for my GF has a bare bones EVGA 3060 and a 3600 with a stock cooler and her temps are great.
btw Jay, looking this grid, I right away thought... man this looks like something he could incorporate on the Rebel build, but a stormtrooper build with those would be NICE!
Nice! I just bought two of these for a future project. The link provided showed unavailable but I found some at another seller. Low inventory so act quick! Thank you Jay!
Have a small doubt. Someone please answer. I have a 660 watt ups. If I use an 850 watt psu(the pc will be consuming around 600-640 watt at maximum), will it affect my pc components or the ups?
10:30 ish. I've previously cut the hole slightly smaller than the fans and passed screws through the case. it's harder to mount, but when the screws tighten, the fan covers the inside mess, and the mount covers the top. I've done this with rads also
I did basically the same thing with my Inwin 301. Instead of a dremel I used a 4 1/2 inch hole saw with an auger to cut two nice holes for 120mm fans in front. Airflow is great now!
Gotta say tour videos have been helping me through a pretty rough patch lately , also last 2 days I've been binging rtfm up to ep 9 definitely makes the days go faster . So thank you

They actually look pretty nice. (Though I am a little worried about rattle.) So not only does the case work better, but it looks better too. Me, I have the opposite problem. I still occasionally have a client request a CD burn. (Because networks are just so hard... And an extra five bucks for a USB stick so expensive. :-\ ) And I have yet to find an external drive that isn't a cheap piece of crap that only lasts a few burns before something goes wrong with it. So I still reuse an OLD case because it has these amazing things called 5.25" bays. I need a case-mod kit to freaking add a 5.25" bay to these modern cases. LOL Might cost me one fan of air flow, but needs must.

Got these for this exact case, thought the white ones would match but they don't so anyone getting these be aware if you go with the white one you will need to paint them to match nzxts case
I remember doing a similar top fan mod to an early 2000's Lian Li case using the Dremel and the circle cutting attachment. Made the cuts on my apt balcony on a Saturday afternoon and it was loud AF. I found if I slowed down the cut it was quieter (aluminum case) and I didn't have any burrs.
I have a set of those with fans and the monitor. They came with a template for cutting out whatever to mount them. My templates were actual plastic and made it a lot easier. They are of great quality 👌
This is the stuff I love to see. doing practical custom modes. Not just adding high end RGB rainbow barf to a case. Great stuff Jay. Please do more stuff like this.
I have one of these in white on the top of my case for more ventilation. They really do work very well for easy case mods for cases with poor airflow and ventilation! Performance PCs has some similar items also if you want varied options like different designs, and sizes (280mm and so on).
I've got this exact case and was concerned for intake airflow up front, but I haven't had any issues. I ran with a 240 mm EVGA AIO. Looks like the NZXT Flow, which wasn't available when I built my PC, answers this concern. To be fair, I only paid $60 for the H510 case at Best Buy - so I'm not complaining either way, lol.
Did a similar job with my NZXT H400i. I cut out a 120x240mm hole in the front, which aligned with the front mounted fans (and removal filter) , and covered the hole with some wire mesh off Amazon. Just to make sure my 3080 got enough cool air.
Old school case modding, Love it. Think I still have a handheld metal cutter/nibbler somewhere in drawer from those early modding days, Before I got a Dremel and angle grinder.
It actually looks good on that black and white themed case. If doing a radiator, I would close off the stock vent holes on the side, otherwise some of the air from the fans would just vent out the side rather than through the radiator.
ive used these in the past for wall cabinets for airflow in racking intake at the bottom and exhaust out the top on in-wall av racks or small cabinets in desks or under counters in retail locations. they work great if paired with 120v ac 120mm fans
I love your modding videos Jay... I have a tip for you to get clean straight cuts with an angle grinder. Use a straight flat piece of steel (like 1/4 inch flatbar or angle) and clamp it on the case to use a guide /ruler.
HOLY CRAP that is sweeeet looking. The fact that a rad could sill fit behind the front fans is awesome. The grills still fit the aesthetic design of the original case too! Warm and fuzzy feelings watching this. I REALLY liked the modification video it feels refreshing and different from other videos. The focus on watching your back cuts and measuring twice, cut once reminded me of building divider walls with my dad and planning out cable management. Hey how about more mods to this case like - how to add discrete LED strips in the subframe corners or maybe changing the case colors with colored wrapping like they do on cars? IDK spit balling here.
I literally did this to my case (same case) almost two years ago with a Dremel and an Amazon fan grill similar to the one in this video but it’s different it’s down the entire front with the length for 3 120ml fans wow now everyone’s gonna do it haha
I did this exact thing at the begining of the year. The only difference is that I modded a 120mm hole to the top because I wanted to keep the res mount for aesthetics. I also cut a rectangle hole and added a grill for ventilation to the front panel. Overall, I am very pleased with the thermals now.
Ah yes, my case! I love the way it looks but ya, it's got some air flow problems. As long as I open it up and keep it very clean it does a good job (even with the window off an open I don't get any difference in temps). it's very picky about dust building up on the side holes/filter thingy- does good when clean, not so good when dirty- I suspect they never let dust build up when designing it so it was never a problem they ran into. This is EXACTLY the mod I've wanted to do for a long time but it's just not worth taking my whole rig apart for- keeping it clean keeps it performing well. My temps are pretty good, considering I'm delidded /LMed/Lapped IHS with quite a hefty OC. I'm probably going to use the same case for my next build and this is exactly what I'll do before putting the guts into it if I go that route! I do have a push pull setup on my radiator in this case too- you can do that. There's only about a Centimeter of space between the push fans and the front of the case, but I tested with them and without them- I got better temps with them despite the small amount of clearance so I went with it- I really did not expect there to be enough clearance but it works better than without so I keep them in there.
By far the nicest looking(my opinion) and best performing (fact) Nzxt h510 ever. Can often find these cases used for $20-40 and it could be worth it to modify one just as Jay has done. Looks great as far as design and color!
i've been planning a h510 elite build too and recently found people make complete custom front panel replacements. pretty dope and i'll definitely be getting one

Just picked up a couple of these for an Optiplex flip. These look fantastic.
Those things are really well made, the case almost looks like it was meant to be that way. It gives off a really nice semi-industrial look too.
Didn’t know their airflow had a flaw. Just bought the h510 case. Good to know I have this mod option. Great video
It actually looks good on that black and white themed case. If doing a radiator, I would close off the stock vent holes on the side, otherwise some of the air from the fans would just vent out the side rather than through the radiator.
Thank you for making a cheap and easy mod video, looking forward to more like these!
Just completed this Mod. I have a 20 degree drop!!!! Thanks man
ive used these in the past for wall cabinets for airflow in racking intake at the bottom and exhaust out the top on in-wall av racks or small cabinets in desks or under counters in retail locations. they work great if paired with 120v ac 120mm fans
Brilliant. Modding , repurposing , improving. Imagination is all you need. Top job and thank you
I literally did this to my case (same case) almost two years ago with a Dremel and an Amazon fan grill similar to the one in this video but it’s different it’s down the entire front with the length for 3 120ml fans wow now everyone’s gonna do it haha
The ones linked are no longer unavailable. If you scroll down they have another style
This looks cool. I have this case at home sitting doing nothing due to an upgrade. Think I’m going to do this and make a budget little build
Would love to see a this build go further. Most curious about the acoustics like rattling etc. Looks freaking sick
Ac Infinity makes coolers for home AVR’s. I have one on my DENON. Those grills are meant for cooling an enclosed cabinet for audio/video gear.
This is what I love most, simple, good, affordable mods.
that looks so awesome! you should put an old system build in it. like a i7-2600k with a 240AIO in the front and overclock it! that'd be epic!
That MOD completely made this case look at LOT better
Very cool! Would love more detail about how to balance fan flow please!
WOW, it looks very nice, great job Jay
