    I made it just by guess-timating based on the pattern you have on the vids. It's tough eh. It's really just and fair that you sell the template. It's one tough DIY and you made it easy for the buyers to make it. Thank you for this video. Mine is not perfect but my son is ecstatic when he saw it! All the best!

    Is that correct that the foam should be 1,5 mm thick?
    Or should it be 1,50 cm?
    Thanks!

    • @LostWax
      @LostWax  9 років тому +2

      Yep, the thin craft foam I used is 1.5mm thick, and the thicker foam I used for the main helmet is around 8mm thick. It's O.K. if what you have isn't exactly that thickness though.

    • @LostWax
      @LostWax  10 років тому +1

      Patrick Kelley Hmmm, I don't think you would be able to get a satisfactory result just by scaling the pattern up, Usually when patterns need to get bigger, not every measurement changes proportionally. As you can see on my vid, it can still fit over an adult head, but the main thing that looks funny is that it doesn't come down far enough on the shoulders.

  • @tgoodall3600
    @tgoodall3600 9 років тому

    They look great! I purchased the pattern. Piece 11 (the final seam covering) seems to be missing on the adult pattern, and the longer seam cover on the adult pattern isn't long enough to tuck under front of helmet. Hope this helps. I only had the thin foam sheets and it works great! I used white and black foam and I may not have to paint them.

    • @LostWax
      @LostWax  9 років тому

      T Goodall Thanks very much for the feedback on my pattern, I see there are a few extra instructions I need to add to the pattern. You can use piece 11 from the childs pattern- I guess I forgot to mention that in the instructions:) The reason that the longer seam doesn't tuck under, is that it already is the full length of an a4 sheet of foam, but I should mention that if you have a larger sheet of foam, you can give it a bit extra length to tuck under.

    • @LostWax
      @LostWax  3 роки тому

      Hi there! I would say for a girl around that age, you could go either way. My niece made one of the child size when she was ten and it fit her quite well, but she certainly doesn't have a large head:) The opening of the Child size is about 25 inches circumference, but that opening needs to be larger than the head size to look right. Hopefully that helps a little!

    • @LostWax

      Contact cement works on lots of materials, but not all. I am not sure I know what kind of fabric you are referring to, it would have to be kinda stiff to hold it's shape properly.

      Hmm.... I am not totally sure... could you add thicker foam inserts to help fill some of the space. I got it to fit well on my four year old with the right amount of foam. Or cut on either side of the centre line and remove a foam strip from there to bring the two sides together? Last option but probably not what you are looking for would be to scale the pattern down when you print it.

      Yep, the foam I used on this is EVA foam, though it is less dense than the floor mats. They will work, but try to get ones as close to 8mm thick as possible.

    How much foam will we need for the adult size? Was going to buy 10 sheets of A5 foam just in case.

    • @LostWax
      @LostWax  9 років тому

      +SHKAA887 Hmm, it's gonna be pretty tricky with A5- isn't that half the size of a sheet of A4? You would need tons of them. I use a camping mat, and I probably use about half of it from memory. Also it is best if you can get foam that is 6-8mm thick. I have links to some of the supplies I recommend here. www.lostwaxoz.com/product-links/

      Yep just realised I got my A numbering the wrong way around - I meant A3. Either way I've bought a camping mat instead. Thanks!

    does the pattern fit all? I need to make helmets for three grown people and i wanted to make sure the helmet pattern is for adults. Hopefully someone responds to this 😅

    • @LostWax
      @LostWax  4 роки тому

      There are two sizes included in the pattern. One kids and one adults, the adults should fit most sizes, though I don't think I have actually tested on a very large head..... but there's lots of extra space around the head so it should work.

    I can so far find only 5 mm or 10mm yoga mats... Should I try with 10mm?

    • @LostWax
      @LostWax  10 років тому

      Ararechan74 Yeah, I reckon, go with the 10mm. It isn't going to make that much difference with this pattern.

    Does this print to scale on a standard 8.5x11 printer paper?

    • @LostWax
      @LostWax  4 роки тому

      You need to make sure you set your printer up to print size or it will shrink it slightly. That's due to the fact that I make the patterns so they work on either A4 or 8.5 x 11 paper. WOuld be much easier if there was a worldwide standard:)

    Can't seem to pay with paypal...problem?? Do u bundle products needed for adult helmet?

    • @LostWax
      @LostWax  5 років тому

      Hmm, maybe try with a different browser, also if it is saying something about a coupon code being invalid, it's probably due to your computer autofilling the coupon code box with your address. If that doesn't help, let me know, I can always send you a paypal invoice.

    How thick is the foam you used?

    Howdy. I bought your adult pattern, printed it out (actual size) its still small for me I'm 6'4. Any suggestions on how to alter it?

    • @LostWax
      @LostWax  5 років тому +1

      Hi Bill, My first question would be to make sure you printed it 100% scale, but it looks like you did- you can always check by measuring the print guides to verify. To be honest, rather than altering the already made one, it might be best to remake it- if you can scale it up, say 105%. If you aren't able to do the scaling, email me at lostwaxozcontact@gmail.com and I can probably scale it and send it to you.

    What kind of paint is the white paint? Is it normal housepaint? And if so, does it matter if it's interior/exterior or gloss/satin/matt finish?

    • @LostWax
      @LostWax  7 років тому +1

      If i remember correctly I used normal houseplant. It works O.K, but it is a bit brittle, so it can crack a bit if the foam is flexed. I now use artists acrylics on all my projects- they are just that bit more flexible. This project looks best with a glossy finish- I have used mod podge (the glossy one) with good results. Just be aware Mod Podge isn't waterproof.

    Amazing! Good job! How much it you cost t the end?

    • @LostWax
      @LostWax  4 роки тому

      Hard to estimate the cost of making this, as it depends what supplies you have already. The actual material cost is quite minimal, as it takes part of a foam mat, some glue and some paint.

      TBH I have never actually tried. If you give it a go on some scrap you could see if it works well enough.
