kick ass wood cutting technique. ill definitely use it tomorrow
This is an awesome video Bob. I really like your shelter and the clips you use.
+KennethKramm Thanks ken. You know I watched your water distillation video the otherI would really like to go camping with you on Padre Island sometime...I'd like to use my geo dome. And tested against the wind conditions ... maybe we can plan something for next year. Always good to hear from you Ken . I'm sure I'll talk to you later.
I love the woods in the fall. I don't bushcraft much anymore but do make lunch and coffee after hunting in the morning. Walking the woods calms me and energizes me. Nothing like nature and solitude to let you know how great life can be.
Hi James. I too love fall, winter and early spring. Summer not so much.. I couldn't agree with you more about getting re-energized. Unfortunately I haven't logged in much dirt time this year. Due to the situation at hand. Hopefully next year will be better. Have a Happy Thanksgiving and I shall talk to you later...
thank you brother. when I first bought that shovel I thought I'd break it on my first outing. I've been using it for a least 8 months now. haven't had any problems with it yet. thanks for your comment have a great night
that day it was in the 40's. At night around 30's. Yes I had a big fire going. I'm glad you enjoyed my setup and thanks for watching the video.
us guys need to play woods because its natural and the way we are forced to live now isnt.
Like a modern day Henry thoreau
The way you setup that tarp shelter is a great idea. I am certainly going to incorporate it. Good work and thanks for the great idea.
BM GF4325 thanks brother. I've been using this tarp set up for a couple years now. I'll be honest with you it works great. I'm glad you like my idea. And it's always thank you so much for your comment
thanks brother. That cold steel is one hell of a knife. It won't let you down. You made a great choice.
Man when you cook, you cook! Looks great. I can't wait to cook in the great outdoors again. Thanks for the video buddy.
thank you. I try to be prepared for anything but usually I forget something.lol but I'm getting a little better and remember all the gear I need for that day. yes it gets very cold here in the winter. that's okay spring is around the corner finally. yes I'm a little envious of your warm weather where you live. just out of curiosity did you give me a hint on your next video? thanks for watching Ken have a great day
Great video! I have that same little folding shovel and that handle idea is awesome, I never would have thought of that lol.
This takes me back to my youth when my friends and I would go into the woods and make shelters with only using branches and trees. We would swim in the creek all day and camp at night in our homemade tree homes lol.
TomCat Xsl I'm glad you enjoyed the video brother. You know you can still sneak out into the woods and have a good time. You don't even have to do an overnight. Lot of times I'll just go out today and walk around...you know that's one thing I haven't built in a long time is a tree house. I do believe you've given me an idea for a video..have a Merry Christmas my friend and a Happy New Year.
Bob808Knight Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you too bro :) I have actually made a three wheeled bicycle that has a PVC pipe frame on the back so it can be a bicycle-camper type of vehicle, it's classed as a bicycle so there is no license needed for it. I'll have to get a camera very soon so I can start making a video of it to show, it's still a work in progress but you can step up inside of it and it has a bed with the bed frame being 3/4 PVC pipe. Talk to ya again soon, and take care ^^
Yes thanks for reply i made fold down front tarp covers shelter out of old heaver space blanket used heavy duty tarp clamps and 2 gromets to stake down worked awsome on 3000 ft mt today in ma even in heavy wind thanks bother keep doing great vids
thank you brother. the knife is a beast. and it was really cheap to purchase 2. I can't wait for your next video and see what you do with your blue tarp. I've seen some your configurations and I really like them.
the interesting thing is that some of your gear could be replaced with cheaper gear for suburban camping or just for homeless people, the tarp's cheap, the tarp clips are easily replaced with a rock and the paracord looped over the rock in the tarp and stretched, making a anchor point, the pot could be a fleamarket pot or from a dollar store, ect. very well made video, thanks.
great food, great set up, cool weather, nature, couldn't ask for anything better! Great Vid!!
Bob, nice shelter system. Looks like you're ready for everything! You look cold...it never gets really cold here.
Thanks Bob, lots of great ideas.
Jerry Horton thanks for watching Jerry I really appreciate it. Have a great week my friend..
I really like that shelter, simple, very effective for sleeping in. I have the same folding trowel and not used it lashed to a stick before, I will try that out sometime too and dig a fire trench!
thank you brother. I was a little worried it might be too long in people would lose interest in it. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
i like the way you save water when your cooking. Water is precious on any outing in the back country. I enjoyed watching your video. happy camping.
I'm so glad you noticed that. for some reason people don't think about water conservation in the backcountry. Thanks for your comment brother
I love Dakota fire holes. it's on the list of one of the videos to shoot this summer. the thing about the Dakota fire holes is they are very efficient. it doesn't take much firewood to cook with. the only drawback there is trying to dig one in wet ground. trust me its a pain in the ass.
Great video Bob, I just watched this today, very inspiring...I can't wait to get back in the woods...
I was brought up with the term "learn by watching" great video!
terence vick I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Thank you so much for your comment
I believe the salt is absorbed into the potato as it absorbs water so the flavor of the salt is throughout the potato.
+allmagicgy mmm that makes sense... I know it makes the potatoes taste really good. Thanks for the heads up on that..
they are tarp tie downs. ( that's what I think they're called).you can find them at Walmart in the sporting section they usually about $5 for a pack of 4. You can get the tent stakes there 2.I did a video on how I built the tarp shelter and it's really easy to make.thanks for the comment my friend.
Cheers for sharing your day with us! (Although the day was like 3 years ago, hehe) I came over from Ken's channel. I like the tarp-setup, really nice!
Keep on camping! // Ricke
Thanks for coming over from Ken Channel. If you have any questions feel free to ask. For behind-the-scenes information on what I'm working on for my UA-cam Channel please feel free to swing by my Facebook page
GREAT VID! I have been wanting to get out in the woods forever...this is the next best thing...little trip while I am at work! ALSO...I just got that same Cold Steel Tanto a few months ago and have yet to field test it so...THANK YOU!!!
Thanks. when I first bought that shovel I didn't think it would do very well. but it seems to be proven me wrong. not bad for 5 dollar shovel. I'm glad you're enjoying my videos have some real fun things planned for the summer.
Bob , I liked this video very much . Have an idea for you to consider. Change the fuel in your alcohol stove . Use Ever Clear it's a 190 proof grain alcohol . # 1 it burns very well., # 2 if you get hurt cuts , scrapes it can be used as a disenfectant also cleaning your cooking utensils , just something to consider
I'm glad you enjoyed the video William. Actually friend of mine make some Homebrew.. the first couple ounces is poison it's above 190 proof. He gives that to me to use as fuel for my stove.. And I can tell you it works great. So yes you can say I've used grain alcohol. :-) thank you so much for your comment I do appreciate it.
Bob808Knight so, what you're saying is... You could disinfect the plague.
Now this is a video, I love the fact you tell us what tools you use, I think everyone should do that, Great video Bro.
Thanks. I'm glad the shelter system works out for you. did you find any ways I could improve it if so let me know I'd appreciate it. have a great evening brother
What a wonderful video! I absolutely loved it! One day I want to assemble my self some hiking/camping gear and do what you did today. Thanks for the vid!
Huy Dinh thanks brother I'm glad I could inspire you to get out and enjoy the woods. Just remember you do not have to spend a lot of money on camping and hiking gear to have fun...thank you so much for your comment. I really do appreciate it.
I have never heard the word "Spud" used in this frequency.
Adam Schneider lol I have to say I do enjoy using that word. Thanks so much for your comment brother.
Ayyy Bobbayyy! :) I love this vid. I watch it over n over. Your different angle editing is freaking AMAZING!!! Perfect timing! Great job bro. Besafe
Gino Gambino I really happy you enjoyed the video Gino..I really did have a great time film it... I have to go back someday and do a part 2. That really was a good camping location. Thanks for your comment brother... have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year..
Brilliant!...Never waste the water, even do the washing up with it...Paul.
+Paul Glancy I'm trying not to waste water. Its a long ways to a water source from where I was camping..
that's not a bad idea. I will try that this winter thanks for the tip.
Thanks. we do have 1 more problems to solve and that is putting a bug net on there for the summer. have a great day brother
that is a Cold Steel GI. I use the hell out of it and haven't had any problems. you can usually find them on Amazon for $25. thanks for watching brother.
Nice video again Bob, love the way you experiment with different ideas and adapt techniques from other subscribers. Outdoor cooking you cant beat it,nice set up. Thanks for shaing Bob.
superb video, well planned fireplace and shovel. mesmerizing watching you doing all the chores in this video. bet you had a wonderful time there. That potato stew had my mouth watering. please make more of these videos
jaglinuxmint that your brother I'm glad you enjoyed it. Yes I had a great time out there. I remember that day well. now that you mentioned it the potato stew is making me hungry lol...I'm headed out tomorrow I'll have to cook up another branch...thanks for watching and have a great evening..
Bob808Knight happy camping once again bro! wish you all well.
This was my first time watching a video from your channel... And I really enjoyed it!!! Nice set up and I enjoy your camping ideas! I look forward to see more like this!
+thesurvivalist excellent brother I'm glad you enjoyed the video...if you have any questions about any of my other videos please feel free to ask... And for a behind-the-scenes look at what I'm doing on youtube page .. please feel free to check out my facebook page. You don't have to like the page or even have a youtube account to view the content. As always thank you so much for your comment. And have a great day.
Another great video brother. Always like seeing what you do to your gear. I run an ALICE as well...hellcat mods...and I LOVE it...tried and true equipment. I like the tarp shelter concept.
what your brother I'm glad you enjoyed the video. I'm a strong believer in the Alice pack. I've had no problems with it.I use the tarp shelter quite a bit in the spring and fall.it's really easy to heat with a small fire. Thank you for watching.
thank you Chris. I have several more these videos plan for this fall. I'll give you a hint one is the bushcraft breakfast. :)
Well as all tarp shelters you have that problem, altho most people use sleeping bags in the summer, so only thing exposed is your head. You can buy a bugnet that is placed over a hat to keep it off your face, but protects your head and face from bugs. So this may be a cheap option for ya and thus making your set up perfect as is lol.
thank you brother. I tend to get a little out of control when cook outdoors :)
Bob really like this video...the silence of the beginning part of this was so relaxing just watching you do your thing was cool. entertained and informed well done
+kingspawn101 thanks for the great compliment brother...this is my very first concept video. I have several more like it and several more planed for this year..... As always thank you for your comment and have a great evening.
Another great vid brother! Thanks for the shout out. I think I might just make some Stew for dinner. I just got a dehydrator its freaking awesome ( Native Robin rocks)! Once I get some good trail recipes I'll have to send ya a care package for you to try in the field!
Awesome setup Bob!!! Looked like a nice meal!
thank you brother.
Hey man very nice vid , i see you guys got the tarp setup to perfection, very cool man. Nice meal, dude, and like the kits. take care . thanks for sharing, good times
thanks brother I'm glad you enjoyed the video.I am fortunate that there are no bears in my region thank God.but sleeping on a platform in a tree sounds like fun.something I might give some thought to in the future.
good idea with the shovel bob i have the same one will need to try that out out bud atb stuart
+SCOTTISH WANDERER Thanks Stuart..I'm glad you enjoyed the video... As always thank you so much for your comment and have a great day.
Like the idea of the improvised shovel
thank you brother it does help out a little bit. Thanks for the comment and watching.
If a train whistle blows in the middle of the woods does anybody hear it? :-D
Nice job making the shovel. At first I thought you were going to go with a para braid and use the whole roll.
Well done bob quite a good video i like the idea of adding potatoes to your dehydrated meal extra carbohydrate and we all know how important this is thanks for sharing
you absolutely can brother all you have to do is set your mind to it and go for it. :)
Interesting idea adding a potato.. Thanks for the video
+Eat Carbs thanks brother and thank you so much for your comment I do appreciate it.....
I really enjoyed watching this, thanks !
Tomislav Simonis I'm glad you enjoyed the video my friend thank you for watching
Loved the video, was good that you are reusing the water as it's already preheated from the fire with the potatoes aswell. Nice use of the ashes to control the temperature. Enjoyed watching and subbed
thank you brother I'm glad you enjoyed the video. And thanks so much for subscribing.
WOW Bob! Just noticed the number of views! Over 43,500! Awesome! To be honest this has always been one of my favorites that you have done. Simple/real, Keep up the good work brother!
RiverBendSurvival thanks Darby for the great comment you have put a big smile on my face. :-)I remember this video I had a great day. I'll have to do another one like this in the near future.who knows maybe something similar to this at the spring meet up and everybody can be in it. Have a great evening brother talk to you later.
I really like your knife. Enjoyed this video. Thanks, man.
I'm glad you enjoyed the video thanks for taking out the time to watch and leave a comment.
Great use of skills fella and If I was stuck in the wild I would want you with me lol
Hmmm. Summer bugs...... I bet I can attach some snaps to a piece of screen material and let it drape down over the front. It would snap where the top of my blanket snaps so it would replace the emergency blanket in the summer time. About that care package, I'm trying some recipes out this weekend for venison jerky and trail dishes. We'll see how it turns out.
that sounds really good brother. especially right now that it's dinner time.lol next time I make this meal I will do that. thanks for watching.
Terrific video. Great to see a video using basic tools and supplies and not pushing $200 spoons and forks.... I've been away from camping for 20 years. Recently decided to return to it and I caught your video while packing. Normally don't give a video 32 minutes but u did this one and glad I did. Nice work!
Blues Man I'm glad you enjoyed the video brother. You really don't have to spend a lot of money to go outdoors and enjoy the wilderness. I buy most of my gear at Wally World. Enjoy your overnight brother.
Oh, so you made a kind of "hobo oven". Awesome video and nice editing. Thanks for taking us along! Stay Safe!
Yes I did.. Would you believe now I'm using 2 stainless steel dog bowl for an oven.. I think I feature in one of my cooking with Bob videos.. I'm glad you enjoyed the video thank you so much for your comment I really do appreciate it..
thank you my friend I'm glad I can inspire you. thanks for watching
Well thank you for taking me along
Thanks for coming along and have a great day my friend..
nice vid. Had a lot going on in it and I enjoyed it immensely. thank you for sharing with us.
Thanks brother I'm glad you enjoyed it. I had really fun day. Thanks for watching.
that's not a bad idea I'll have to find me some bug net and see if I can attach it that way. I love beef jerky. I can't wait to see what you come up with. whatever it is I'm sure it will be good. have a great night brother.
This is really cool, It's getting me excited for my weeklong journey into the wilderness in june. I can NOT wait! this video helped me with some cool ideas also! Great video!
Where are headed at in June? Give me all the details so I can enjoy the outdoors through your exploits.
Red river gorge. I'll send all the pictures your way when were back.
Heck I like to hear about the prep as well. What you are taking, what you decided not to, etc. I go through that process all the time.
cool matt..I hope you have a great time and make sure you shoot some videos I'd like to see it or you're more than welcome to upload pictures to my facebook page.have a safe trip brother
Again great vid just got back from mt greylock in ma tried ur tarp set up works great thanks
Hi, Great Video and good to see a nice Meal cooked over an open fire = Respect from the UK
Bob add a clear plastic sheet (held on with velcro) to the front of your shelter to hold in heat just make sure air can get in or you may suffocate also the mylar emergency blanket can be held in place with velcro. that way you can use the 5mill tarp (blue or cammo) from harbor freight and if its not cold enough for the mylar your can still use your tarp
Hi Bad Hat It has bid a while since I've seen you in a comment section.. I hope you're doing well.. Excellent I idea this is something I will try this early Spring.. It's a little too cold to try it now we been in the single digits for 11 days.. Thanks for the tip and I hope you had a happy New Year..
yeah been a bit. but putting that clear plastic sheet on the front of that Louisville gar style shelter turns it into a sorta Mors Kochanski type Super Shelter and with a modest fire out in front will keep you toasty warm at night in that single digit winter weather. and by putting a window shear from walmart on it will make a nice mo-sketter net. Happy new year my friend and if you have the chance tell Ken Kramm I said happy new year too and that I sure miss his vedios
Yes I will relate your message to Ken...lm get ready to call him ..
thank you Bob ';o)
Very nice set up. Would like to do that myself.
thank you brother. I had a fun time that day thank you for watching and commenting.
thank you for that comment I sure appreciate it. thanks for watching brother
hi Darren thank you for the compliment. I do like working with other people on UA-cam and Facebook on projects. if you have any ideas or a project you like to share with me feel free.
Cool vid --- although sleeping on the ground under a tarp is not going to protect you from hungry grizzles. Better to climb 40 feet into a tree and construct a sleeping platform. That's what I do and havent been eaten by a grizzly yet.
I stumbled across your video and I must say I like all the useful information and good video production. New subscriber here!!
hi robert I'm so glad you have subscribed. If you have any questions about my videos feel free to ask. .if you get a chance check out my facebook page..have a great evening Robert.
An oldie but a goodie from my friend, Bob808Knight!!! My only question is how you kept that nap from going rogue? After a meal like that, and such a good setup, I could easily see that nap going ... say three to three and a half hours. Great video, Bob!!! Me and mine wish you and yours all things great and good; take care, be safe, all my best and God bless!!! Chuck Knight from Buffalo, Texas. 🖖✝️🙏🤠🐩
Hi Chuck.. I see you're in my archives... fun fact this is the very first video I experimented with camera angles....
Good question... I have alarm set in my phone for 12 and 6 so I don't oversleep. LOL if you're wondering yes I take naps in the woods all the time. It's the only place I can find peace. LOL
I'm sure you going to ask eventually... have I ever overslept and woke up when it's been dark out? And the answer is yes... that's why I always carry enough food and water for two days in my pack... thanks for the wishes brother and I like to wish you and yours the same. Talk to you later and have an awesome week..
Brown gravy mix would be mighty fine with that
Everything taste better on an open flame out in the woods. I love cooking and plan on getting to the woods soon. The weather has been pretty bad here in Tn. I have gotten to old to fight the cold. The end of March should be great. Nov.
james green I agree James everything taste better over a open flame.. man that sucks you got a cold.I hope you are feeling better now. And have gotten a chance to go outdoors and enjoy nature. Thank you for your comment. Have a great evening.
Great video Bob, nice mate, I enjoyed that
Great vid , I was glad when you started talking thought it was going to a Silent Bob vid. Thank you
chris knevil all I would need is have Jay to show up. And then we would have one heck of a video lol sorry I couldn't resist. I was experimenting with my video technique back then.well in fact I'm still experimenting. One of these days I'll figure it out..I'm glad you enjoyed the video brother. Even though I didn't talk at the beginning.. thanks for your comment.
Bob808Knight Bob your vids are all good I think you got it down pat. Again thanks
Nice vid.Looked like a good meal.I have some of the beef stew but still havent tried it yet.been stuck on thier chili mac and the spaghetti, lol.I like the stake/grill leveler thing,I'll have to remember that!I usually use rocks or logs to set my grill on but dont always get it level.
I can't wait till it warms up so I can hike and camp
+SammyPresta Hi Sanmy..why wait for it to get warm again. Then you have to deal with the bugs. Personally I enjoy winter camping. The more of a challenge the better experience I always say.....thanks for your comment brother.
the beef stew is pretty good. I forgot about the chili mac I'll have that the next time I go out. I like my grill set up.. with the steaks I use it's easy to level out. it weighs practically nothing and fits in the bottom of my pack perfectly.
thank you. that's okay on the beef Stew not very many people like it. thanks for the comme John.
thanks for watching my friend. I'm not sure how long 1 bottle of fuel burns. I'm headed out in a couple days I will time it for you in include it in my next video. I'm a little bit curious myself now. yes I heard of Ray. I never really watched any of his videos though.. I'm sure there are some on youtube I can take a look at. thanks for the tip
great day in the woods, wow 42,040 views ..i seen something pass in front of the camera at 26:55 .. just thumbing vids and ran across yours, awesome looking meal bob.
..bill
Nice camp setup you have
Thanks for bringing us along
Bill Hinson thank you Bill I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Thank you so much for coming along.
billy joe denny holy crap Billy Joe I had no idea I had that many views on this video..just what this was one of my just winging it videos too lol. Go figure. I have no idea what ran in front of the camera..I'll have to look up the original footage and slow it down and see if I can't figure out what it..of course by now I'm sure you know that weird things happen to me I know woods. Lol .meal wasn't half bad..in fact I wouldn't mind having some right now I'm pretty freakin hungry at four in the morning lol.yes I need to go into town to pick up some supplies. Thanks for watching Billy Joe I'll talk to you later.
yes sir I'm ready to take off at any time. thanks for watching brother have a good evening.
Great Video... very cool.
Could you list out our tools and who made them?
I especially like your tarp and knife
LOL just heard the beeps!!! got it. I was too quick to post
Jong Lee no problem brother.. I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Thank you so much for watching and I really appreciate you commenting..
thank you John. had a lot of wind that day. I know you couldn't really tell in a video because I filmed in between wind gusts. I did take an hour and a half nap in there and I slept great. I do have to work on a bug net for the summer months. no problem on a shout out I hope it brings you more scribers. have a great day friend. can't wait to see your next video.
great video, looks like your ready in case u got to bug out.
hey dick it is a standard 8 by 10 tarp 5 mill. you get it at any hardware store Walmart or Amazon. I didn't video a while back where to put all the gromets. thanks for watching brother
I just came across your channel, watched this video and immediatley subscribed! Great video! I was just wondering why you use the shelter instead of a light weight tent? Thanks again for a fine video!
what is the tarp you're using and those clips for the back of the shelter. Great Video. Thanks
Found this video linked through Reddit.I wouldn't have attached the shovel (though a good idea to extend the handle)....would've just angled the wood to a flat point and dug with that....then no cordage would be cut.Solid day out though....dirt time is always good!
+bigdmdiddy I had no idea I was on Reddit. I think that's pretty freaking cool. I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Thank you so much for your comment I do appreciate it.
+Bob808Knight You'd be surprised where vids pop up. I think it was either on the CampingHiking or Bushcraft subreddit. Funny how a 2.5 year old vid resurfaces. Keep up the dirt time vids. I haven't had a decent camera do to mine, and I love my dirt time too much to fret over getting a new one when there's new tools to buy and play with!
I'm glad you enjoyed my video. have a great night brother
have you ever come across wackos in the woods or had any stumble upon you l? If so I would enjoy to hear about it. The woods by my house is pretty awsome but occasionally well stumble upon a wacko and it can be a bit frightening at times but 90% the time we see (or hear them) and we get outta dodge real quick
