@Nick Pileggi - you're like a Dad with 200+ kids, who remembers (almost) everyone's name and personality, plus their eating/drinking preferences and even some of the cosy or quarrelsome relationships between them! :) Happy Father's Day! (this Sunday in Australia).
One silver plant that I grow indoors is Silver Falls Dichondra. It is usually sold as an annual outdoor "spiller" plant for mixed flower containers but it also looks amazing by itself as a hanging plant. You can also order seeds to grow your own which is what I did. If you grow from seed, for a 6 inch pot, I recommend using 3-4 seedlings and giving it time to fill in. The first time I grew dichondra, I was impatient and put 7 seedlings in my 6 inch pot so it would look full quickly but then the pot got too crowded. Ended up killing it because it needed watered every other day once it was fully grown (about 5 months from sowing seeds).
I have black velvet and syngonium erythrophylum and they are both my favorites! Love my dark plants! My black velvet is huge and just put out TWO blooms!
Another great video, it's so refreshing to see someone talk about plants who just appreciate them and how they grow. Refreshing after seeing such greed in plant flipping on FB. Beautiful plants, thank you for sharing 💜
I love plants with dark, almost black, foliage. Currently, I have ZZ Raven, Piper porphyrophyllum, Philodendron Black Cardinal and Scindapsus treubii dark form. Next in my wishlist would be Philodendron Dark Lord.
Or.. "9 almost black plants, and the raven zz: a plant made of pure midnight" I love my burgundy elastica so much 😬😂 it's honestly a favorite, I have lots of odd leaves and colorful plants... love my burgundy.
Finally! One of your videos where I own at least two of them! 🥰 I love my philo black cardinal and ficus elastica and I don’t care if it’s an old lady plant 🌱
Love that you bring light to the more "non-expensive" houseplants! I've been on the search for a Peru but with the boom in houseplants its so much harder! LOVE your videos!!! I love that your making even more vids!!
I created a display of my black-ish plants on my dresser for Halloween last year. I included my Raven ZZ, my ficus elastica burgundy, and a funky Aralea Elegantissima. I positioned a few creepy gourds and warty white pumpkins with a ceramic haunted house and it all looked just fabulous! Thank you for you inspiration Nick!
I kept waiting for you to talk about the Pilea Dark Mystery. I rarely see anyone talking about it and don't know why. It's a gorgeously dark and different looking plant. I absolutely love it!
@@queenhoneybun I almost killed my 1st one. It actually looked completely gone the very next day I brought it home lol I'm slowly bring it back to life though. I got a 2nd one a couple of weeks ago. It looked so pretty, I couldn't resist! That one still looks great. It is in a self watering pot and I think that helps. I keep it right in front of the 1st one so it can see how it's supposed to look😂
@@queenhoneybun They are really into humidity. Try using a wick system for self watering(I've used shoes laces to do it) or adding pebbles with water, any those things that can help with humidity. Also, the almost dead one is doing better now close to other plants and on a different spot.
@@queenhoneybun It's on a South facing window but I'm on a 1st floor apt, barely get any sun there, just that natural light. I also have blinders on, which I only open a little bit at the top, so it really does not receive much light there. I did have it under a grow light at 1st so that might've been too much for it😬 I don't think it does well under direct sunlight. Don't give up on it though. Mine was completely drooped and crispy and it's now coming back to life. If I can bring that plant back to life, anyone can! 😂
I love this video! I have a very modest suggestion? Could you possibly do a video about making terrariums and vivariums? Thank you. Your videos are so thoughtful and I really enjoy them.
Great video Nick! Love that 3 stage adage about plant growth. Never heard it before. I so love the black velvet alocasia! BTW, I purchased a dark waffle plant today. 🤗
I love your plants, cute Cat ..... and your way of explaining really i follow your tips and u.... your plants really inspires me to buy more plants.....
Hi Nick! I LOVE dark foliage on plants! The only one I have that you showed is the ZZ Raven, but hopefully I can find some of the other ones you showed, especially the Syngonium erythrophyllum "Llano Carti Rd", Philodendron "Bloody Mary" and Philodendron "Black Cardinal". Oh, and the Ficus elastica "Burgundy". I don't do well with peperomias and have never tried the other ones. This was fun! As others have asked, will you PLEASE show us your courtyard? Thank you so much for sharing!
Love, love, love. I habr the aloccasia black velvet gecko, and the black opal in yard (mowed down by yard guy twice! 🙊)and pots, can’t wait for them to get large. Great suggestions, Nick!
Nice/thoughtful video for Halloween coming up. I like when you tubers come up with their own unique videos instead of following the trend of what all the other tubers are doing. I do not enjoy watching pretty much the same video over and over again by 10 different people. Thanks for being different.
What a brilliant idea! 🖤 I d like to add the black haworthia, have her for years don t know the exact species name, but she gave me lots and lots of pups to give away and has grown so much, she is looking very sculptural and interesting now.. Who would have thought that years ago when I bought the baby plant in the supermarket 😉
@ Nick Pileggi I would also like to recommend a miniature coleus I received from Hirt's this past spring. I don't see it listed currently on their website or on eBay, but hopefully it will be available again next spring. When it arrived, the entire plant was almost completely black! It appears more tender than most coleus so I kept in on a windowsill facing southwest. It lost most of the black to just the tips of the leaves but the neon green still made it a beautiful plant to keep. It doesn't get tall, but man does that little guy grow! Cuttings in water produce roots in a week and can be planted in 2 weeks; would probably do just fine stuck directly in the soil. I recently moved the coleus to a west-facing window and, to my surprise, the black is returning again. Also, for really dark coleus in the normal size range, Theater Velvet has a purple cast that is gorgeous. I'm not a purple fan in general, but it's so subdued, it has become one of my favorite coleus. It has feather shaped leaves, which make it look somewhat less like typical coleus. I have seeds to start in spring of a similar form known as black dragon which is black with a glowing lava red center to the featherly leaves. Coleus are highly underrated and bring the rainbows of nature without the need for waiting on blooms to flower. Plus, they do great indoors, even year-round, can be made into bonsai forms, standard topiaries and I'm even seeing folks successfully grafting all sorts of color variations onto single plants.
Glad to see your black cardinal . Not talked about much. I was thinking mine was having a humidity problem because the leaves have a bit of a crinkle or wave to them. But, maybe not since it looks just like yours. ❤️✌🏻🌱🌿🍃
Was just telling one of my customers that they wait a year to take off. But they're so great. Hers already put out a new leaf in like 2 weeks 🙆🏻♀️ ficus elastica burgundy
I LOVE dark foliage plants. I became obsessed with my Raven ZZ that when they came to the big box stores in my area a second time, I had to grab another. I didn't know about that syngonium, so I've added it to my list! Burgundy Ficus is next on my list of dark plants. Thanks for the info!
Nick you're genius! I'm looking for small terracotta pots but for some reason they're nowhere to be found or too expensive. But we do have this type of yoghurts in France too 😁 Perfect 😉
Your category videos have been very amusing lately, Nick! Love them! Will you give your black plants some Halloween decorations when it’s time to celebrate?
Hi ! I very much appreciated this video, I always discover new plants with you. I don't own much dark plants : the ZZ raven, a syngonium erythrophyllum "Red Arrow" (it's more matte and leaves are slightly rounder than "Llano Carter Rd") and I would range my gorgeous, velvety Philodendron Micans in this dark category. All three of them are such easy plants on top of being so beautiful. See you soon !
Nick-loved this video, especially the gorgeous Phillies. Your collections are awesome 👏. Am going to try to find some of the blackish Phillies, gave up on the Raven ZZ 🤗✌️. Thank you for the suggestions. You are awesome 😎!!
Nick!!! Amazing video as always and love the peperomias you show cased! You should definitely make a video of you bringing all the plants you have outside in for the winter. I’m interested in your process
Great video and interesting content. I have the Raven ZZ too and love it. You mentioned how all the black foliage will seem to fade to green. At least from the ones I have I think the exceptions of those would be the Raven ZZ and the rubber tree. The ZZ actually starts out green with the buds and then goes to black which is so cool and I love.
I have to find that syngonium! That’s just beautiful! I agree, they are underrated but I like it that way because I don’t want the price to skyrocket the way everything else has!
Thanks for this. For a while I was obsessed with black foliage. I only have 3: Black velvet alocasia, Burgundy ficus, and ZZ Raven. (I also have P. pulchra, but I don't count it because it's not that dark to me.) I'm most I referred in getting the Syngonium you showed. I hope that you will give us a tour of your outdoor plants. 😀
Thank you so much! I have an idea of making a gothic nursery as a company and have been searching around for so many different plants to start with and you have helped a lot. It's been two years and was wondering maybe an update to dark foliage plants? 😍
I love my syngonium! And I agree, they’re underrated. I have a pink variety that is so precious but I don’t know the name of. The ficus burgundy elastica is very classy indeed! I also have pilea “pan am” that closely resembles that first peperomia, and a “dark mystery” that I’m obsessed with its foliage, but am having a hard time of helping it thrive. Love your videos!
I love dark foliage plants! My alocasia Black Velvet is such a diva but after almost a year we're starting to understand each other. 😂 Dracaena (sansevieria) hahnii Black is another great, easy care, black plant.

i enjoy watching your presentation and your face 🧒gestik😄thanks👍
That syngonium is lit. You're right - people don't love syngonium enough. One of my all time favorite plant groups :)
I have that one, absolutely love it!!
Would it thrive on a northfacing window???
My mom's wanted a goth garden for a while so this is a "gift idea" list for me
“I’m always willing to take it out for a video” ... sorry ... I cackled 🤣😜❤️
Love this series! Can u do a silver/silverish blue foliage one?
please!!

I'm collecting as well, right now I have cebu blue and amydrium medium silver
I have some blue star fern and succulents of that color :)
Be still my goth heart...
Took me a while but I got a turboensis after you mentioned it before and it’s loving life in an IKEA bell jar! I love it!
hahaha

Ophiopogon or black grass is very black too

Thanks Nik! Once again just love ALL your Vids!!👩🌾💚

I totally agree with your comments about pellionia. They root pretty easily and it’s known as a shingling plant! Cheaper than most other shingles!
DAMN. you calling out your mom like that for her Ficus elastica burgundy....lol
Drone striked her and didn’t skip a beat.

you always cheer me up and make me smile. thank you for being you.
Dude, you should have saved this video for October :D love all the dark plants :)
Beautiful plants
Pilea repens! I adore this plant, I have it! Easy to propagate, and super nifty.
I wish all my favorite plant gurus (like you) on here would do this video topic! Thank you 🙏🏽 been longing to see it covered.
Great video Nick! Love that 3 stage adage about plant growth. Never heard it before. I so love the black velvet alocasia!

Love dark plants, I have 5 out of the ten you showed. I want a bloody mary now!!!
Love these black plants. I’ve seen them before but never considered decorating with them. I think I’ll give a few a try! Thanks for the idea, Robin
Will look Amazing right next to my future variegated plants😊
I'd love to see a plant tour of all your oldest plants/the ones you've had the longest!
