I would suggest that no matter what country you are in that if you need medical care go with someone local.
When I started traveling I learned to call myself a visitor and not a tourist. There is a difference and you get treated differently.

I Used to be married to a Dominican woman. She took me to many places all over the island. But This is my favourite area for sure.
Specifically there’s another small town close by called Las Terrenas that I especially love. Beaches on this side of the island are more natural and beautiful. I highly recommend people visit. Everybody goes to Punta Cana because of all the resorts but there are some nice low-key places here. More chill overall. 😎

@14:45...Hold up, hold up, you drive in the DR? Gotta respect that Czech. I grew up in Boston and I drove in Santo Domingo for the first time a few years ago. You don't know how to drive until you drive in that country. People over there, they may seem like crazy drivers but they're just effective drivers. Everybody is in a hurry to get from point A to point B without wasting time. But those small towns bro, it's those little motorcycles that you got to be careful of. Props to you.
@Eric De Aza My wife is from Bani and driving there makes you wish you had a radar to pickup those motoconchos. A lot of them will try and get in your way whenever you turn so you could hit them and then they sue you for money. Happened to my wife. She had the full right of way, turned right and all of a sudden she hit one. The guy was all acting like he was badly hurt but she had to take him to the hospital, pay for his care that wasn't covered. And the guy was threatening her he was going to sue until I showed up and put an end to his sh!t. Just be careful out there people. And remember those motorcycles don't respect traffic lights or one ways, etc. You have to have your eyes wide opened.
@Eric De Aza It's alright brother. I'm Dominican myself. I spent the first 7 years of my life in El Capotillo. Although I was pretty much raised in Boston, I still know how my people are. They're trying to survive in any way possible. Some will do stupid stuff like that. I know what it's like and know how to deal with it. I'm just letting those that don't know to not just go out and rent a car and drive in Santo Domingo, or almost anywhere on their own. Even the police will take advantage of you if you're in the wrong area. They should go with a local Dominican that knows the city or barrio where they will be. It's better if most will just visit and stay in the resorts. But if they visit outside of the resort then they need to realize the DR can be a tough place to venture out on your own if you're not city smart. You have to have a "Tiguere" (Tiger) mentality. Best to pay a local guide or go with friends that know the environment or just stay in the touristy areas. The worst you might find is guys like that dude that wanted to sell him cigars and Mamajuanas. Dude just wouldn't give up and kept bugging him LOL. I could write a book here but I'll leave it be. Dominicans are goòd people. A few years back one of my grandsons had an accident and he was sent to one of the hospitals there. A lady I did not know cause its the first time going Santo and she brought us food and gave me her number incase I needed further help.
