There are some incredible skills at work here. 1. Mastering the piano. 2. Being able to perform live to an audience. 3. Conducting an orchestra. 4. Doing all the above simultaneously while looking calm and collected. Much respect Barenboim. A true musician!
+Adam Mickiewicz this is truly wonderful, but check out Abbado conducting with Brendel playing at the Lucerne Festival (I hate the term better, but that by far is my favorite...its beyond compare truly, check it out if you haven't, its on youtube)
What I admire about Barenboim is that I find him a true musician. Conductor, with, if somewhat uneven results, but he can handle his Steinway any day of the week. Gladly lacking the "pianistic superstar" attitude of say bang bang Lang Lang, Fazil or Valentina - a humble musicality, gentle, kindly - no doubt just like Schubert.
I dont think he is humble at all. He is an arrogant geazer, and rightly so given his gifts. I personally love what he does though would still like to see him do some of the Chopin etc. ... to see the control vs. Kissin per say. Or Bach , hes odd, original interpretation. God Bless us all, dig up Glenn, and the dead composers and get a bottle of wine in, and have a real chin wag.
As we say in Nova Scotia, no flies on that boy! Beethoven's immense vitality comes ripping through in Daniel's performance. Orchestra was excellent, I believe.
Splendid! Standing ovations!I can barely type on a computer keyboard - Mr. Barenboim churns out the notes like water through a rushing stream with one hand, while conducting the orchestra with the other. Magnifique!
I let maybe a few months and didn't listen to this concert I love and I cried because of his second part...it's immensely beautiful...so perfect when unhappy that you are blessed exactly for that reason...in no other state of mind this music can impress you more...it's the compensation God gives us.....Barenboim is magnificent as pianist....
Both thumbs up for the composer and the performers. All of them are at their best. The first movement has that majestic drive of a triumphant god of classical mythology, that was peculiar to Beethoven. Thank you for sharing this video.
+himanshu y Then you better get the recording on CBS with Perahia, the very sleepy Bernard Haitink and the wonderful Concertegbouw. A reading of coherence, musicality and ensemble. This Barenboim performance was undoubtedly a gorgeous afternoon concert and live performance.
That's the renditions I have on files and of all I heard, these are the best, especially the third concerto. 98% of conductors/performers rush through pieces like this and ruin most of it.
Trentadue Domenico. Cordiali saluti da un suo ammiratore.
Maestro Barenboim has long established his credentials as a leading student of the art of Beethoven. This authoritative, double-threat rendition, well-recorded and supported by the Staatskapelle Berlin, solidifies that very well-earned status. Despite this masterful perfomance, he himself would not set his talent and accomplishments above those of other Beethoven specialists: Fleisher; Graffman; Biret; Solomon; Richter; Lipatti; Cortot; Kovacevich; Serkin; Gilels; Goode; Argerich; Perahia; Brendel; Ax; Rubinstein; Schnabel; Michelangeli; Pletnev; De la Rocha; Kempff; Gieseking; Gavrilov; Gelber; Anievas; Jandó; Levin; Ashkenazy; Ohlsson; Lhévinne; O'Connor; Cherkassky; Thibaudet; Lupu; Bolet; Hofmann; Fischer; Arrau; Backhaus; Casadesus; Novaes; etc., etc.
He makes Beethoven's music come alive like no other. I guess it is called passion.
There are some incredible skills at work here.
1. Mastering the piano.
2. Being able to perform live to an audience.
3. Conducting an orchestra.
4. Doing all the above simultaneously while looking calm and collected.
Much respect Barenboim. A true musician!
Baremboim=Perfection......Great solist....Great conductor...magnific interpretation!!
Barenboim performs the piano & conducts this historical Berlin orchestra with sensitivity & expression. An awesome interpretation.
Achingly beautiful, so much love and feeling for music both by orchestra and Mr. Barenboim. He is the music genius of our time. Thank you.
The was the first Beethoven piano concerto I fell in love with about 20 yrs. ago. The second movement is so beautiful it's almost too much to bear!
Orkiestra,solista-dyrygent doskonali.Przyjemnie się słucha tego koncertu.
Barenboim in the greatest interpreter of the genius of Beethoven. Almost as if he was born to play Beethoven.
Agree.
He also gives a great stage presentation which some don't.
and Mozart!!
Brendel?
Igor Levit?
What a Beethoven' s great celestial flawless music composition conducted and performed by the stunning Barenboim!!!
The blending of orchestra and piano is well brought out by Barenboim and the orchestra!
Splendido il suono orchestrale grandissimo Daniel Baremboin, esecuzione di altissimo livello, impasto piano- orchestra purissimo. Applausi!!
Oh Man, Mr. Barenboim is one of a kind.
Breathtakingly so Marvelous ‼️👍👍
Beethoven, Long live ‼️🙏🙏
This is the best think, I've ever seen! I just love Beethovens concertos!!! And for me mr. Barenboim is the best conductor of this music!
+Adam Mickiewicz I thing you're right
+Mohamad Saad That was funny... Mean, but funny still...
+K. Y. Lai , why was that mean? Maybe he was being sincere....
I don't think you get it... The OP typed 'think' instead of 'thing', and Mohamad was making fun of the OP by typing 'thing' instead of 'think'.
+Adam Mickiewicz this is truly wonderful, but check out Abbado conducting with Brendel playing at the Lucerne Festival (I hate the term better, but that by far is my favorite...its beyond compare truly, check it out if you haven't, its on youtube)

+neonRTowner I don't know why but I like your Schubert comparison. I shall always compare the two henceforth. Thanks!
thought he'd had a seizure at 7.12

As we say in Nova Scotia, no flies on that boy! Beethoven's immense vitality comes ripping through in Daniel's performance. Orchestra was excellent, I believe.
The best performance of Beethoven's concert ever!
And after 50 years he's finally performing in the Netherlands again
Splendid! Standing ovations!I can barely type on a computer keyboard - Mr. Barenboim churns out the notes like water through a rushing stream with one hand, while conducting the orchestra with the other. Magnifique!
Wanders.Bravo!!
I am enjoying and delightful by this genius work from age 13 years!

One day I will see this live. Hopefully before Mr. Barenboim stops performing
...the common breath of Spirit, music and history...
such emotional depth..
we haven't met for a very long time
This is very spectacular concert, especially second movement achingly beautiful !!!!
The third is my favorite though :) Just so playful and grandiose sometimes shifting within seconds. :O
Both thumbs up for the composer and the performers. All of them are at their best. The first movement has that majestic drive of a triumphant god of classical mythology, that was peculiar to Beethoven. Thank you for sharing this video.
Wonderful. There is nothing in this life as good as a Beethoven piano concerto.
You ever microwave a donut?
Jack Glossop Urgh!
Jack Glossop lol I agree listening to a Beethoven piano concerto whilst eating a microwaved douhnut is where it's at
Peter Maguire Hahaha- I think Mozart would have been more of a doughnut guy than Beethoven, who strikes me as apfelstrudl
+Kent Gardiner Kent, remove the words "a", "piano" and "concerto" from your sentence and there you have it.
Whats an amazing performance of great orchestra, brilliant
WOW that trill at 16:10. That was amazing. The way he extended. So tense!
There is some revolution spirit in his inside
Really special
nice way to put it
Simplesmente maravilhoso!
Bravo...Eligant piece of music Ludwig. Thanks Beethoven.
It is good conducted form Daniel.
merci encore pour ces videos.

UA-cam rule no. X: No matter how beautiful a thing is, there's always ~5% that has no idea how to appreciate
These are the pitfalls of "democratic" mass participation.
we can melt into this music effortlessly without having to know the next variation :)
Barenboim sempre maravilhoso! Muito obrigado, gracias, thank you, vielen dank, merci beaucoup...!
Everybody likes Number 5 the best, and it is great, but this is my favorite Piano Concerto!
Ooh. Daniel gives me goose bumps!!
This is my favourite concerto but I ve never ever heard a better rendition than Zimmerman and Bernstein
himanshu y Because there is none. Its impeccable in my opinion
himanshu y That version with Zimerman and Bernstein is unique!
+himanshu y No way, this is much better then Zimmerman and Bernstein,Barenboim is the best! Listen him how play Beethoven sonatas who can better?
+himanshu y All versions are unique!
Heavenly songs
King of beethoven = barenboim
Best performance ever!!!
I’m sure Beethoven would laugh happily if he heard that!
Great job my genius, sir Daniel
Hes dead hes not laughing
Amazingly beautiful!
Just take any piece by Beethoven, listen to it for the first time and you'll find it beautiful !
12:37-12:43 On point conducting and playing !
That Cadenza was awesome!!!
Surely you jest.
oh oui pr moi la meilleur cadence poetique appreciee
j adore le 2e mouvt.
That's cool, he's conducting and playing at the same time.
+Tenzin Smith Much more difficult than cool.
Hmmm, difficult to say.... I'd say it's about 71% as cool as it is difficult.
i guess it is extra stress for the orchestra
Mr Barenboim, don't even think of retiring!
Merveilleux concert !!! Merci ***
Meraviglioso! Splendido! Proprio grande!
Daniel interprets Beethoven as Beethoven always wanted to be interpreted.
Nice play. Honestly to say, I never foget Eschenbach's perfect piano play done 40 yrs ago. This Baremboim's play is next to this.
Barenboim THE ONLY ONE !!!!!!!!!!!
Agreed. ;)))
20:34...pure Heaven...
BRAVO BRAVO BRAVO HE IS WERY ARISTOCRATIC PLAY
2 Maestro's Beethoven and Barenboim

Daniel Magnificent
BRAVO DANIEL
Grande Barenboim !
Spectacular..Best interpretation of this piece within my ken
Why is this only first movement? Where did full concerto disapear?!

No.3 2nd Movement great.
Estupendo, un tipo completo, universal.
I love his interpretation
To arcydzieło klasyki ale jakże współczesne perełka
Tears, happy idle tears!
Genio.
Unreal!
großartig
Barenboim is Beethoven of our time
Danica Lazovic the(big) difference is that Beethoven wrote the music m there is only one Beethoven and always will be

the downvoters are the people who did not like his speech at the Knesset during the ceremony of the Wolf Prize ...
