Grandma Lolli always makes me laugh. She’s a delight, the kind of person that lifts everyone up. In fact, everyone at Fab Rats makes our world a little bit better. Thanks for being here and sharing a glimpse into your lives.
I'm a huge supporter of Air Ride. I used to be like everyone is when they don't know, "It's just a gag or gimmick". Then I worked on a mid sized passenger bus, 35 passenger, and my mind was forever changed. The improvement in vehicle control was huge. Even more so was the ride quality, empty or fully loaded. You made a great choice to go with Air ride. When you can't tell the difference of empty or loaded you know that you've got it right. For those of us who have driven with a bouncy, almost uncontrollable load, when you get behind the wheel and the only difference that you notice is the weight that's when you gain a true appreciation for Air Ride. You control the load, or the load control you, you decide.
Air bags help the truck lift under load, so that the handling is normalized and the headlights point where they should, air ride is a whole different animal. Your point is salient though!
Ok, I will be that guy. Really good idea to put a fresh set of batteries for that remote in the glove box. Looks like a good system that you will like and use. So make sure you are not left low and sad if you can not operate out in the wilds without a spare set of batteries. Keep up the good work.
Good morning Paul seeing all of you guys together is a good time. Grandma Lilly is fearless and I think that is a great thing. Hunter needs to remember if the camera man almost falls he should get it on video that is good footage. It will add to the video.
As an aside, I mounted my compressor to the inside of an ammo can lid. Drilled a few cooling holes and mounted it under the truck. Lid mounted to truck. Protects the entire compressor from dirt n mud. Unlatch and swing down container to check on it. Lotsa different ammo cans sizes. Should also put in tiny drain hole just in case you drive thru deep water
We definitely need to see more of Grandma Lollie! Love her sense of humor and she definitely adds to the Fab Rats fun. I'll be heading to Utah this year and sure hope to be able to stop in and say hi to everyone!
I ran Hot Shot with my ‘18 Duramax Dually pull a 40’ gooseneck. I installed the same Firestone Air-Ride and it made a huge difference. Well worth the price.
Sorry to hear it. I lost my wife last August. It gets better with time, but in the meantime…. Lean on the Lord. He can give comfort that only he knows you need.
I believe the Timbren SES is a superior suspension enhancement. Simple, no leaking, no controls, no failing compressor. I installed a compressor like that in my RV. Within a year it seized due to being exposed to moisture. The cylinder and piston rusted. Definitely want to mount those inside.
Huge advocate of air bags. 4 trucks over 20 plus years. Mount the compressor in the cab behind the rear seat. No not loud in the cab. Keeps it clean and the air intake dirt and moisture free. Had them mounted both ways inside and out. No problems inside. Outside problems with the pump every year.
Hey guys, I’ve installed many of those kits in the past on company trucks and they have never lasted more than 6 months.. keep a close eye on all the brackets as they come loose often. The last couple i installed i welded into place and the brackets still ended up bent in no time. Now I just add extra leaf springs and deal with the rougher ride when empty
I had Air Lift brand for years, manual 12 volt compressor but guages and valves plumbed into the dash, lasted years and years but that was in the 90's, not sure if the quality of brackets are as good now. Saved leaf springs from breaking on a lot of logging road driving, new leafs, shocks and bags after replacing many broken leafs 😂 live and learn individually
Airbags are a game changer on a tow rig. Even on my 5th Gen 4Runner, they make a huge difference when towing the car trailer with my FJ40 loaded up. Good choice.
Nice video!! Hunter... us folks who grew up with snow in the winter have a built in reflex... when our eyes see white our walking gate changes to accommodate a slick walking surface. Just saying😁 More bells and whistles for the trailer puller. NICE!!
I had Firestone rear airbags on my 1991 F150 back in 2001 and I loved 'em. I ran 2 lines to the rear bumper with a Schrader valve on each side of the license plate. I could lift and balance the load so easily and it rode like a dream when it was level, no matter how much was in the back.
Once I started running air bags on my tow rigs, its now the first thing I install when I drive it off the lot. Bags should be a factory option on all 3/4 ton or higher trucks.
Paul you should check out auctions for some 10k military generators. We run one at our warehouse when the power goes out. Carry the load from lights, cooler and heating. I'm sure even a 5k would work well for ya. Just an idea
I have always put the pump under left rear door on inner rocker panel that way the driver can hear it lol . I have been doing this for years. Too many people have to learn not to over load there trucks up here in the great white north have fun boys
I love grandmaw lolly. I would give her a big ole hug. She is feisty like my Mamaw Carter lol. I could watch Fab Rats 7 days a week. If you all was in Tennessee where I am we would be great friends 😂.
We mount our brain box and pump up under the spare tire. We believe it is more protected from mud and snow. We have had problems with the Goodyear brand going bad after 3 years. We now run Airlift for the last 7 years with no problems.
I would have mounted that compressor inside behind the seat or inside the toolbox. I have 7500lb bags with Bluetooth compressors, and mine is mounted on the frame where we thought it would survive, and now it's completely dead. The elements killed it.
Inside the cab is the LAST place you want an air compressor. Unless you and all your passengers are stone cold deaf. Under the hood, or somewhere else "protected".
If it’s like my Bluetooth for my air lift compressor, you’ll love it. I can control both bags separately. And so far it’s worked flawless for the last three years
Love the channel and watch it all the time. Seen a few videos for your power went out. You should have a back up generator. But I guess you really enjoyed the downtime with the powers out. Keep up the good videos big thumbs up to all the crew.
fun fact..... 2 sets of kleinn model 102 horns sounds great and an easy add on for trucks with onboard air. one was alright but the 2nd set of horn makes it loud!
Your mom is cool, she knew exactly what those parts of the airbag kit are . Liked seeing her hanging out in the shop, I think she'd fit right in working there, maybe even put you guys to shame .
I’d like to see a video of Grandma Lolly and Hunter, like a gag reel of their greatest hits! I think it would be a blast! I love how she handles everyone.
15:10 Looking out the window of the truck I can see several large 'hurricane-damaged' trees, which seem to have a year (or two) of recovery behind them.
Instead of replacing my leaf springs probably 10 years ago, I installed a set of firestone air bags. They have been great. I can load way more than I should with them on there. One thing you may want to check into though, I am not sure its good for the bags when you let the axle fully droop.
I added bags to my 2500 GMC and it made a huge difference for pulling 5th wheel. Love them. I represent Firestone but had to go with Airlift because the firestones were back ordered way out when I needed them.... sad face...
Good luck with that kit. Took les schwab near me a WHOLE year of coming back and forth to get mine to work correctly. Long story short it never did so they removed it and put the old school two lever system in. Pump liked to turn off and on in the middle of the night for no reason killed my battery many times and ticked off my neighbors because of all the noise.
I have an 09 Dodge diesel crew cab long bed. I put my air compressor under the driver's door on the frame. I drilled a hole in the floor under the seat so that I could use cab air for the compressor. I put a manual gauge under the hood for the main air tank, and I use a manual slide switch just like I use in my air bag suspension on my T Bucket. It has a single gauge with 2 gauge pointers. One for each slide switch for each air bag. Mine works well too.
Just an FYI about your truck, if you want to make it a long distance hauler, replace the stock fuel tank with one from S B Filters. They make one that is a 62 gallon tank that mounts where the stock tank is now. It comes with the correct fuel pickup/gauge sender. I have one on my Duramax truck and it's great when you're pulling a heavy trailer.
Yeah my 18' ram 3500 only gets about 11 miles to the gal pulling 29k lb goose neck. That gets me about 250 miles (usually 200 useable because I don't like being too low on fuel) per tank of fuel. I've been wanting to get an after market tank for it just having a hard time getting over the pricetag hahaha
Great Firestone Air ride kit Looks like your ready to test the ride, Really like the way you installed it Paul, Shaun and Hunter have a Great Day 👍 Thanx for Sharing your experience 👍

I am so glad I see you on vvg and started watching every episode you got so when I am alerted on my phone I race to watch it. So keep up what up the good work . U guys are awesome
Hey Paul love the show with all you guys and gals !! That dent in the front and back door are possible to repair ! I know you’re sending it to Robby Layton he’s cool and does an amazing work and not trying to take work away from him ! I’m a PDR tech and use to do dealerships Bodyshops and many other unusual things in the dent world but that’s possible to repair with paintless dent repair ! I could get 95% of that dent out ! Take care ladies and gents and thanks for the enjoyable adventures ! 😎👍🏻🇺🇸🦅😇🙏
I love my Firestone airbag system! So easy to install. #1 hint, be sure the base plates are solid, I had to weld them to the leaf spring perch. The U-bolts are cheap and the plate rotated and ruined the bags. BTW, take a plunger to that passenger door, it looks terrible. 😅
Grandma lollipop is firecracker! You guys are very lucky to have her around! Family fun. Give her more hugs!
Yep, and Yep. She is a blast from the past, with fire.
I think you should have a "Name that part" with her. I'll bet she's pretty sharp. Thanks for the video.
She certainly rocked the air-pump and the air-bags… bet she’d do well 👍🏻❤️🇷🇴
That has to be her new nickname
Make t-shirts " grandma lollipop is a fire cracker " give her all the loot! Merch bonus!
Gramma Lolly bustin’ your chops: Priceless!!
Grandma Lolli always makes me laugh. She’s a delight, the kind of person that lifts everyone up. In fact, everyone at Fab Rats makes our world a little bit better. Thanks for being here and sharing a glimpse into your lives.
Paul, thanks for making grandma Lollie a part in every video. I enjoy her shenanigans
God bless her
Who doesn't just love grandma Lolli.... She brings sunshine and a hurricane with her whenever she is in any video...
Grandma Lolly is a riot. She always makes me laugh. I love to see her in videos.

Grandma Lolli is a blast. Not only is her humor spot on, she knows what's what. You'd have a hard time pulling the wool over her eyes😂
Practice over the years, experience comes with time.
MORNING Fab Rats and Viewers. You've come to right spot on this fine Wednesday morning. Have a yourselves a good one.
Good morning Paul seeing all of you guys together is a good time. Grandma Lilly is fearless and I think that is a great thing.
Hunter needs to remember if the camera man almost falls he should get it on video that is good footage. It will add to the video.
Hey Paul, you might want to think about installing a back-up generator. It seems your power goes out often enough to justify it.
They would probably be a generous sponsor as well...
As an aside, I mounted my compressor to the inside of an ammo can lid. Drilled a few cooling holes and mounted it under the truck. Lid mounted to truck. This is a nice addition to the Duramax and will help pulling the trailer. Always good to see Grandma Lolly stopping in!
Good to see some heavy duty rigs getting some love. ❤
Mrs Cox is a very Special & amazing Lady. And She has No Problem putting someone in Check if they get out of Line.❤
Give your mom a hug paul we never know when our last day comes i lost my mother this past thursday there is no word for how I feel
Sorry to hear it.
I lost my wife last August. It gets better with time, but in the meantime…. Lean on the Lord. He can give comfort that only he knows you need.
I’m very sorry for your loss
So sorry to hear that! Condolences to you and your family. My mom is 91 and I hugged her this morning when I saw her.
Sorry for your loss…
You are blessed to have Lolie around you enjoy every minute with her,I dearly miss spending time with my mother!

Ask Rory or Mike what they think of the Firestone brand of air bags.

How do you drain water from the tank? With the compressor air inlet facing forward, watch that road dirt doesn't clog the filter.
Once I started running air bags on my tow rigs, its now the first thing I install when I drive it off the lot. Bags should be a factory option on all 3/4 ton or higher trucks.

Love my airbags. I run them at 10 when not “in use”. 65 or so with a loaded trailer. They are a game changer
Thank you guys for doing what you do
I have always put the pump under left rear door on inner rocker panel that way the driver can hear it lol .
I think Paul was thinking of a Concertina, the Squeeze Box, mini Accordion.
We mount our brain box and pump up under the spare tire. We believe it is more protected from mud and snow. We have had problems with the Goodyear brand going bad after 3 years. We now run Airlift for the last 7 years with no problems.
I mounted my control box and my pump above my spare tire to the bed rail on my truck. It's been out of the way, and i've had no problems.
I would have mounted that compressor inside behind the seat or inside the toolbox. I have 7500lb bags with Bluetooth compressors, and mine is mounted on the frame where we thought it would survive, and now it's completely dead. The elements killed it.

If it’s like my Bluetooth for my air lift compressor, you’ll love it. I can control both bags separately. And so far it’s worked flawless for the last three years
Great job guys. Doing that job in a shop with a lift is so much easier than rolling around on the shop floor.
👍
Air Bags
They are a little bit
Different then when
I had mine in 1998
But it’s makes for
A nice ride especially
Pulling a trailer 😉
Thx Guys
Air bags were the best addition I made to my tow vehicle , makes towing safer and more comfortable with a level tow tug . Good work guys .
Thank you Paul and crew for the update on how things are going there in Utah !
Love my Ride Rite 7500lb system on my 3500. No drilling, no tank to hang. The Ttan tank topped it off for long haul towing.
Another useful fun modification.
Dang, Grandma Lolly should play a round or two of "Name That Part". I would love to watch that.
I agree! Grandma Lolly vs. Michelle would be even better.
Finally quick and easy for the guys, awesome vid boys thanks
Your mom is cool, she knew exactly what those parts of the airbag kit are . Liked seeing her hanging out in the shop, I think she'd fit right in working there, maybe even put you guys to shame .
The band picture was priceless, thanks for the laugh
I’d put a mud/road grime shield/plate protecting the new compressor….
Grandma sure takes care of all you guys. Hey that was a cool video. That air bag system should work great. 👍❤️
I’d like to see a video of Grandma Lolly and Hunter, like a gag reel of their greatest hits! I think it would be a blast! I love how she handles everyone.
' what's that part with Grandma Lolli ' ... she would nail it
15:10 Looking out the window of the truck I can see several large 'hurricane-damaged' trees, which seem to have a year (or two) of recovery behind them.
My firestone bags are 12 yrs old now.... 0.0 issues or leaks. I only run about 3-5psi unloaded for a softer ride
It's crazy how you guys are getting all the snow this year. I'm in Salt Lake County and we haven't had much snow at all this year.
Try Timbrens for suspension load assist. Excellent ride under load, no maintenance, no failure, been using them for decades.
Michelle, your background music editing is still on point. Great job.
I don't know if she's still editing the videos because I think they hired someone else to help
I have air bags on my 2006 sierra 2500 HD duramax I pull a 36 ft fifthwheel 50 to 55 pounds keeps it level no sag fantastic 👌
Grandma is very smart lady she even knows what car parts are call
Instead of replacing my leaf springs probably 10 years ago, I installed a set of firestone air bags. They have been great. I can load way more than I should with them on there. One thing you may want to check into though, I am not sure its good for the bags when you let the axle fully droop.

Long story short it never did so they removed it and put the old school two lever system in. Pump liked to turn off and on in the middle of the night for no reason killed my battery many times and ticked off my neighbors because of all the noise.
well that looked simple enough to install, hopefully you will see a difference when towing, thanks for sharing
For being such a big truck there is not much free space under that frame. Good job locating all the air ride equipment.

I love it when a plan comes together....
Cool bag system. I can tell you I lost a bag when i guy put my truck on a lift. Be careful, my bags ripped trying to hold the weight of the axle.
I hate when my bag rips.
Great Firestone Air ride kit
Looks like your ready to test the ride, Really like the way you installed it
Paul, Shaun and Hunter have a Great Day 👍
Thanx for Sharing your experience 👍
You probably meant accordion instead of banjo, but we still laughed.
GOOD JOB!... Add more roof like 29 feet out!
I just had to stop the video to take a good look at the hillbilly band. Well done.
There is a small percentage i personally assembled that specific airide assembly. I worked at the plant where those are made, and ran the crimpers that assembled the top and bottom plates to the bellow (air bag). Just know each airide assembly is tested to at least 180psi for a minimum of 5 seconds on 4" parts and 15 seconds on 5" or larger parts.
They are very high quality, where the plates are formed, fittings attached, and put through a furnace to make an air-tight seal at their Dyersburg, TN, plant. They are then packed and sent out for plating, then returned to the plant for assembly.
I was hoping to catch a look at the white tag on the plate to see if it had my operator number. 😅
I was drinking water when Grandma said the Fab Rat hillbilly's I spit water out my nose gotta love this channel thank you all
Beautiful truck! Fix the door!!!
Number #1 GrandMa in this universe!!!! Love me some GrandMa Lilly!!!!
I have a super duty. Going to check those bags out.
Great job guys. Thank you 😊
🙂 I installed the pump in side under the back portion of back seats and punched a 3/4" hole for wires, and hose and sealed up with black gasket maker. I also have individual gages on drivers Pilar with air up and down for each gauge to each back wheel. Going strong11 years now. :) YOUR MEASURING TAPE IS SUPOSE TO ARRIVE FRIDAY Paul 📏
I am curious as to what pressure he found was good for normal driving and for when he was pulling that goose neck with those two trucks. I don't have any experience at all with air bags.
I love it when Lolly picks on everyone
I love Grandma Lolli, and Michelle, where is she, miss her.
You definitely need a generator! Take a v6 chev engine probably find a few generators at your dump Take the motors off make a chain drive off the v6 going to two or three generators wired into the correct voltage!
Grandma Lollie rocks...
Sweet air bags.
This gonna be a new segment? Parts identification and chop bustin' with Gramma Lolli? I am SO THERE!
I love my airbags on my Cummins, no need to squat, just bring the jump box over that has the air compressor combo and just blast air in right near the placard on the rear bumper.
Just a friendly comment from a diesel mechanic, those dmaxes love fuel filtration. I highly suggest a air dog or fass lift pump/ filters
7:45 this is when we bring to you power when you need it with generac generator the keep you going when mother nature or some guy running into power pole don't won't you to , for the low price of , look up your local retailer
I am so glad I see you on vvg and started watching every episode you got so when I am alerted on my phone I race to watch it. So keep up what up the good work . U guys are awesome
Love my air-bags. Been running AirLifts about 10 years
Hey Paul love the show with all you guys and gals !! 😎👍🏻🇺🇸🦅😇🙏
As a 24 year PDR tech... that door would be a fun challenge!!
Holy cow, Gma Lolly knows her parts, she was spot on with unpacking that kit!
@2:25
Paul “This one’s probably the most important one to keep.”
Shawn “The one with pictures?”
🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂
Glad I hadn’t just taken a drink of my coffee.
Everything new has an educational curve.
