Eye doctor! 😂 That's a new one for us Brits. Don't you guys call it the optician? I strongly recommend Michael's bit (simplifying English for the Americans) on the Jonathan Ross Show in which he pokes fun at you for this exact reason. 😃
and eye doctor equivalent in the UK would be an optometrist or ophthalmologist. These people have medical degrees, and treat a wide array of eye problems and diseases, along with treating eyesight problems. An optician is someone who's done 3 years of training and is now a practicing optician. An optician still needs prescriptions to be approved by an optometrist or ophthalmologist. The chances are, when you visit the "optician" for an eye test, there's a visiting or resident optometrist or ophthalmologist performing the test.
HOpe you find "send to all" from the Big Show by Michael McIntyre. Where he takes a celebritys phone and send a text to everybody in their phone. Its really funny. "I had a dream you massaged my legs on a beach, what do you think it means?". Stuff like that.
Just to clarify and FYI: '20/20 Vision' does NOT mean you have perfect eyesight.... Far from it ! But the majority of people have just come to accept it to mean that ! Secondly, it's actually an American term, mainly picked up by the Brits from American servicemen in WW2. In UK it is referred to as '6/6 Vision' (or a 6mt distance). 20/20 Vision just means that you have 'normal' vision 'clarity' from a distance of 20 FEET (being able to see and describe most acceptable views and objects without glasses and without sharp details). You may not be able to read anything, but still have 20/20 Vision... 🤔😎
Funnily enough I was just about to go out without my glasses when this came up . They do make a difference although it's a reminder that you are getting older and everything is deteriorating .Some clever observational comedy by Michael and I'll probably be remembering at the Opticians next week .
You mentioned eye glasses lol . Can you tell me if you need glasses for other parts of the body . Similar to the American term horse back riding. Like where else would you choose to sit . It was a comedian that used this in a routine , but I can't thing who it was now . Ive just found out from a comment below . It was Michael mcintyre on jonathon ross . Simplifying English for Americans . Please react to it .
I guess we say it to distinguish from a drinking glass. Not that you wear it but if you were to ask someone to hand me my glasses or your glasses it could be confusing if you have both kinds.
@@BoringReviews ....only if you had two drinking glasses on the table at the same time as having your eye glasses near each other . You would then say pass me your glass . 😂. Please Watch the reaction though all the same. Thanks for content. . Drinking glass 😂
Don't forget that glass is a verb in the UK as well. I've been glassed, I'd rather hope there wasn't any ambiguity and they weren't just trying to give me glasses. Bottle is also a verb. I've been bottled too, and I really hope they weren't.... nah that was definitely intentional. I'd never fit inside a bottle.
You didn't spot baby spice in the audience after the avatar 3D glasses in the bin bit 2:18. She loves Mcintyre, she went on his big show send to all feature. Season 1 of his big show & some of 2 is on UA-cam FYI. Thanks again Nick & Jodi for doing more Mcintyre, most appreciated.
Of course, the optician I saw was MOST amused when she asked me how many dots were in the square and I said ‘what square’ like every other smartarse a million times before. She laughed but then, through gritted teeth, told me not to do that again…
I've been wearing glasses since I was 17-18, I probably needed them way before that, but I dunno I never spoke up. Yeah the first time you put them on and actually see the world, I didn't know what I was missing, I just assumed everyone saw like I did without them.
when my wife got her 1st pr of glasses, she asked her adoptive mum what the big white fluffy things in the sky were. her eyes were that bad she had never seen a cloud before. she was about 5 yo at the time
I haven't had an eye test for about a decade. I know my vision is getting worse (i have astigmatism like you in my left!) I got glasses at around 8 years old. I was basically blind and just assumed my vision was normal. I put my glasses on and stared at a houses chimney for about 4 hours. I couldn't comprehend the detail, i was counting bricks. Madness
In my early teens I got punched in the face and had a black eye for almost a month. I think it may have slightly damaged the eye as I needed to have glasses. I was told that if I wear them all the time I may not need them by the time I was 16/17. I still did need them as my eyes got lazy and I still wear them now in my late 60's. I have often said that I am so used to wearing glasses that if my eyesight got better I would have plain lenses put in them rather than not wear any glasses.
I live in spain and we have eye tests to renew driving licences. One time i went for a test and the doctor testing me was wearing glasses. No big deal but when he got on his lap top to process me he had also to use a magnifying glass to see the screen.😂
When I went to the optician for my last eye test at my doctors suggestion due to headaches and he was really confused because I could read the the bottom row of letters and gave me a prescription anyway ‘just in case’ my eyes got tired working with computers and because I was 40. They just conned me out of £300 for something I don’t need and implied that I’m getting old so I should have them! 😤🤔🤓
20/20 is really just normal vision. It means you can see things at 20 feet that the average person can see at 20 feet. 20/40 means that you can at 20 feet see what the average person can see at 40 feet.
The guy in the glasses in the audience was Heston Blumenthal. One of the worlds best chef. Owner of the famous Fat Duck restaurant.
He ain't one of the worlds best chefs. What you on about? :). He's that novelty chef on telly. let's use some chemistry apparatuses to make some bs

Eyeglasses from the eyedoctor.
Horse back riding
I've heard people call practitioners of ophthalmology an optician, but I tend to go with "fixy eye see see shop"

when i have done the letter chart thing i say i cant see that one and they say just give it a try so i think they want you to guess🤷♂️

That’s cool she was there. But I’m not a huge Spice Girls fan and wouldn’t have ever noticed. I do like a few of their songs
@@BoringReviews Totally, I take it this is Nick, yeah I was thinking Jodi might have been into them but maybe she was too cool for the Spice girls lol

Got mine on my 30th Birthday
I wear contact lenses - and when I change to my Glasses - my nose is not long enough for my glasses to read !
I love M Macintyre. He's hilarious :)
Hi Nick, oh and especially Jodi. 40 when I just had to have glasses for close up work, my arms were too short.
This is hilarious 😆

To me HD (1080p) looks like 720p or less and why I been getting 4k screens in hope helps me not wear glasses for better display

not a fan of McIntyre but this was very true and quite funny.
20/20 is great vision. Not the best Vision though. 20/40
And that's how rare that is, never heard 20,40
20/20 is really just normal vision. It means you can see things at 20 feet that the average person can see at 20 feet. 20/40 means that you can at 20 feet see what the average person can see at 40 feet.
How old are you in 7th grade?🇬🇧

Its opticians not eye doctor. Thats so dumb sounding.
