8 is pretty good except for the extremely long battles. They did a remake/remaster for it in like 1995 or something called wizardry gold and it was awful. I'd love a real wizardry 9.
@@Steveburto too bad the license for the game is in limbo, I think it passed hands quite a few times actually(in 8 I recall there being a literal ad on boot they had to put in to get enough money to finish development). Pretty sad one of the more influential series of early PC gaming is almost unknown nowadays in its native land, though ironically in the Japanese market they still seem to remember it fondly and even have a number of japan only titles.
@@jasonerty played a bit of the ps2 one and while it was cool, it definitely didnt have the same feeling as 7 and 8. I played like 5 minutes of some Korean grin mmo that used the name and it was hot trash.
I remember playing this back in the day and your LP was why I subscribed. I never got very far playing this with my cousin as an adolescent but it was still fun to experiment with all the classes and skills.
@@Steveburto As a child, my brother and I honestly thought class changing made your characters weaker, because of how hard it suddenly was for your characters to fight monsters. We'd spend a lot of time in character creation trying to build the perfect party as a result. It wasn't until I was an adult that I learned differently.
@@ScreamsGeo there's definitely purists who want RP or do a run with single class characters but the system leads to wizard/warrior/ninjas who do everything amazingly with max stats. Class change spam is super addictive.
@@Steveburto I truly did not understand that for the longest time. We were making it much harder for ourselves than we realized. Even when I was told differently, I didn't really believe it until I tried it for myself, and that was only a couple playthroughs ago.
Just so you know, I think it was your playthrough that inspired me previously to try to play the game with a single character. I used a Felpurr Bard (I needed the Poet's Lute), beelined to the Starter Dungeon's fountain, then got the Journey Map Kit, then finished the dungeon. After that, it was just a matter of being careful-ish and collecting all the spells and skills I could before switching classes to a class that could crit/cast different spells/had different skills. Getting the Thermal Pineapple and the spell Recharge was good, too.
Your videos and commentary crack me up, love it! If you haven't tried them yet, I think you'd really love the Etrian Odyssey series, more specifically the 3ds versions. They're like a more streamlined version of Wizardry with an anime coat of paint if that's your thing. Lovely modernization of the genre imo
this game and Might and Magic Book II my favorite memories of my childhood, I don't care what other people say I like Might and Magic Book II my favorite Might, and Magic out of all of them
My older cousins showed me wizardry 1 on the nes back in the day but I was too young. But my friend got a 10 CD for 10$ pack for his new windows3.1 pc had doom and wolf3d shareware and wizardry 7 as three of the games. It was destiny.
Dude that is exactly how I got wizardry 7. .. come to think of it I traded a 500 in one cd for wiz 7 and it was almost impossible to get to play but I got it then got wizardry gold. I stumbled upon the cheat with the 9 on the num pad to get 100 in every stat. One thing, what happens if u keep the astral dominae instead of giving it up for the girl?
666 subscribers while posting this. I haven't played old Wizardry games except for Wizardry 8. Kinda wish they will revive this game or do a remake.

The classes were awesome especially class changing.

Ah, seeing this review makes me want to run through this game another time. Maybe I'll finish up my old one character playthrough.

I know the starting location in wizardry 8 changes depending on what you do in wiz7 but I don't remember the specifics.
