Rather than red loctite, you might want rocksett. Is what I use on flash hiders and suppressor adapters. It can handle the heat and is chemically stable. Also when torquing, I always torque it to click at least twice. Torque. Let it sit for a few seconds, torque something else if you need to, come back to it & torque it again. Then stake. Peace of mind. Of course I'm not working on cars, I'm working on guns. But having it correctly torque barrel nut can be a life or death issue.
Let us Thank You for helping out Tom, we appreciate your contribution to what we watch. People did say how much you worked, just not much appreciation personally, but us viewers sure do!.
I like that Tom doesn't fuck around with dirt, in the Prelude video he was wiping down the rad hoses and everything, now he was going in and getting every little thing that shouldn't be there with the paper towel. That's what I like to see.
Yeah I said something in the video when he told us he got it super common problem wearing it out fast Adam LZ did it twice in his FD car the harder you shift the better
@@Ressurrectinn But the problem is that longer means you need to travel farther to shift and the problem is shifting too slowly. It would probably be better to shorten it and just pull like he means it
So, I've destroyed, torn down, and reassembled my fair share of FWD transmissions, specifically Mitsubishi, but the 5th gear set up is similar. What I finally learned to do to be able to properly torque the stake nuts is to use a penny between the gears. The copper is soft enough that it will deform and not damage the gears, but it will block the gears from turning so you can get to that torque spec. Once tight you just back the gear up and pull the now smashed penny back out. Works every time.
If you break another one, you might have enough spare gears to build another sequential! XD Also we need to know more about this magical Milo fellow. Seems very helpful! Thanks to Matt as well.
MR2 is back and hope to see you get her cuts dialed in! Love that Tom and Milo are helping you guys... I need Tom's contact info so when they get back to Nashville I can hit him up for some local work I need done on a couple of projects.
Loving all the content since you came bk from Florida you been fixing everything bk up can’t wait to see this you really need to make the prelude AWD. Who else would love to see that happen?
Discipline equals freedom, truest words every spoken. The Hondaru is the only clean car that has come out of this shop to date. Everything else is always half finished. Spend $25K on engine/trans build... won’t take an hour to dial in interior. Pay monthly to rent a shop, won’t take an hour a week to clean it. It’s insanity to me. Matt from Obsessed Garage needs to visit this shop and put them through boot camp. Watching for years and always hoping one video will be titled... We decided to clean and organize our lives”
Yall are in the comments acting like he should have done this perfectly the first time. The man took on a sequential transmission for the first time. You live and you learn. Especially from your mistakes. Sheesh.
Re the trans rework,, it was good that you're working with a team that "know" what you needed [bearings] even though you didn't order the parts. Note for sll of us, when we're putting a build together it pays to select supplier/vendors who "know" what they're doing.
Kyle, if that high torque is that important. Torque it, then let it rest for at least an hour or two, then torque it again. I can almost guarantee that it'll tighten a bit more after the parts have chance to "settle" for a while. You can do this a few times or until the nuts stop moving. You might be suprised at how much the pressure changes after the unit "settles".
Good luck going forward with the MR2 . I suppose it will be baby steps getting everything dialed in on the gearbox this time. Have fun stay safe and I can't wait to see a side by side run with the Rowdessy.
It is 100% pure fucking gold reading a bunch of people comment as if they have ever touched a sequential in the first place lmao, let alone put one together. They want to throw shade and act like they automatically know better because they watch UA-cam vids bro lmfao. Acting as if mistakes don't happen to the best and most knowledgeable and experienced people is just another way of showing your ignorance. First race ready RWD car, first time owning/racing a sequential, first time assembling a sequential, it's called a learning curve and you have to sometimes make mistakes to better understand your capabilities. It's a shame The Rona didn't take more dumb people out.
Gotta yank that shifter harder and increase the cut times slightly. Getting back into power with the dogs barely engaged is what ate them up like that.
Kyle: gear missing a couple teeth. Me: like half the gear is gone. Kyle: bearing barley got split. Me: its really F N split. In my mind: man when your used to blowing shit up i guess
pro tip, whenever you torque make it click twice, sometimes there is spring left in the system that makes a tiny difference, or specifically for low torque if you go to fast then it can click early, then going the slower the second time will still move the nut
Good job guys thanks for all the content better than tv . And it's free to watch! I also do UA-cam videos but no where near your level. Someday maybe I'll get there !
straight cut gears require rpm matching in order to shift properly. you have to get it to rev up on down shifts, and add more time on the strain gauge, in order for the gears to match before an upshift. get someone who has there CDL and driven an 18 speed semi to teach you how to drive your car. or google how to shift with no clutch.
That was the smart way to go . Just replace it all while you have it apart. That way you wont have any problems later on putting a that hp to it every pass
Impressed with rebuild, Milo and Tom was on their game I'm sure. Small request ; the cockpit of the MR2 should get a Detailed type going over... Show Car!! to all your fans
If next time your issue with the dog bones, you can always take them to a machine shop and have a matching undercut which will make the bite stronger, and can restore worn ones.
Boooom I just ordered a OG MR2Turbo shirt, thank you. So awesome to see you guy's got the MR2 fixed quickly, great job, keep up the hard work and stay safe and healthy 🤘🤘
Kyle this type of stuff is expensive, we all know that! Dont be afraid to put out some sponsored videos to help pay for this type of stuff. Im sure people wouldnt mind an ad here or there if it means less downtime and more quality content. Glad to see the beast is back up
Wow I’d never worry a bit about using 3 bolts where 4 belong, but not taking appropriate fastener locking measures on a rotating component will be trouble. The failure was absolutely caused by those shaft nuts coming loose.
yo i worked for 12 years as a car mechanic and the skinny guys where just as strong as the big guys putting auto garboxes on by them selfs you know you can use a stand but when putting it on you have to lift it your self to put it on good working on cars makes you strong i never whent to the gym and was on the guys with th the most power out of our friend groub just by doing hard work very day ven if you have hangover it makes you strong for life
The price of those parts is no joke. Big $$$ I agree the cut must have messed up and been out of sync a little bit. Glad to see the MR2 back in action.
you should take formula mazzei's advice, when "street" driving the car you should wait for the shaft to slow down before shifting gear, that helps with premature wear
Just my 2cent, i think u guys should at least has a check list for the box or any other stuff.,even if bearing clearance or torque seq..it aint cheap..always room for improvement..hope it will motivate others too
The Boiz are spoiling us with all these uploads! Keep em coming

I don't think Tom gives a shit. He just likes helping and getting stuff done.
Lol noticed that too, Tom just standing there and Kyle doesn't say anything else.

Yeah I said something in the video when he told us he got it super common problem wearing it out fast Adam LZ did it twice in his FD car the harder you shift the better
do you guys have any idea why the shift lever is so long?
wouldn't it be easier if it was shorter?
Liberty no more leverage to slam into gear
@@Liberty46longer length = more leverage
@@Ressurrectinn But the problem is that longer means you need to travel farther to shift and the problem is shifting too slowly. It would probably be better to shorten it and just pull like he means it
holy shit these guys can rebuild transmissions. Best channel.
