    Personally, i would apply a small circular latex patch over the crotch area to reinforce the seam, since it's the one place that take a lot of "wear & tear". Great video. ❤️❤️❤️

      Ahh, good catch, had forgot about that... I guess the same goes for the bottom of the legs, though in this specific case, the extra red strip was probably enough. And thanks for watching ❤️

    The hardest part is cleaning then gluing the seams. The curling makes putting the pieces together difficult. I make and wear crotchless latex bicycle shorts . I have shorts that have lasted 3 years. When a seam gives way, most of the time you'll hear and feel the 'pop'. Lol

    Hi! What thinkness latex did you use? Is 0.4mm stretchy enough that it imprints shapes if you apply pressure?? I heard 0.25mm is harder to work with and I have never used latex, but I need it to be really stretchy! Thanks!

    • @jokoivi
      @jokoivi  4 роки тому +1

      @@antonywalton7957 yeah, it is a bit of a fiddly area with a large curve of the seam .which is always a lot more difficult.. in general, it requires a bit of practice to get the proper feel of how to do it without wrinkles and air bubbles. to help that process along though, make sure that you lay both pieces side by side, all flat. do a try run without glue to make sure that tugging on the latex wont make the material move around in weird ways (fx: if the legs ate tangling off the table or in a position where gravity might start pulling them around) . and if you really want to get it right, you can also do it in smaller chunks.. couple centimeters / inches at the time.. a lot easier to handle.

    Very well done. Im impressed. Im seamstress, didnt think you have to glue latex. I'm checking the radical rubber website. How thick is your latex? They offer from 0,25 mm till 1,05 mm.

    • @1414141x

      Most latex clothing manufacturers glue the seams on garments. A few do sew them together but the danger is that any holes in the latex are potential weak points and you it can start a tear point. Gluing together prevents this and also spreads any tension across the glued area so they are much stronger and reliable. Radical rubber is the best site for rubber at a reasonable cost and quality. 4 D latex is an English manufacturer of fantastic quality but they are expensive.. Good luck and have a go !!!

    do you know how to glue latex sheets that are too thick to be glued by overlapping them? like wetsuits are 3-6 mm neoprene and are just glued flat agaisnt each other but they're also sewn on top of that which you cant do with latex...

    • @jokoivi
      @jokoivi  5 років тому +1

      Clothing and sheet latex is usually not more than 1mm thick. Glue works just fine for that, the bonds that are created are super strong since the surface is super slick and the whole structure is solid rubber - there for very uniform with exactly the same stretch / behavior... While fabrics and neoprene have many layers of fibers... If you glue it, it's the bottom layer that the glue sticks to while the top layer can shift and tear since the bonds between different fibres vary. in general, I assume the glue that is used for neoprene wetsuits is mainly to keep the water out... Cheap summer suits are generally just stitched, no glue ;)

    No flap to cover the zipper on the inside? So important skin does not get pinched?

    • @jokoivi
      @jokoivi  3 роки тому

      I don't like flaps on 0,4mm latex - the flap tends to get pinched in the zipper and then it's stuck... Could work if thicker latex was used for the flap but I didn't have any at hand. As long as i pull the latex away from skin while zipping it up, it doesn't give any issues

And for the glue, anything i can get hold of it in Portugal and don't have to pay like 40€ for 200ml of glue? lol i want to do something inflatable, so it has to have some strong bond. as i have a water-based glue and it is so shitty for it :( thanks again!

    • @jokoivi
      @jokoivi  4 роки тому

      @@bananaeater4332 nah, even acetone and turpentine won't damage it, so go for it. And the exact percentage doesn't really matter, the main point is that it cleans up the talcum powder which the latex is covered in without leaving any residue behind. You can usually find it in supermarket cleaning section for like €2 glue wise, it's basically contact cement... Some work better than others. And keep in mind while it might be pricey, you need really little of it... And it's better to be sure you have decent glue rather than waste the fairly pricey latex itself ;)
