Does Quadeca's "I Didn't Mean to Haunt You" Suck? Quadeca - IDMTHY Breakdown
Вставка
- Опубліковано 13 гру 2022
- THE ANSWER IS NO!
WOW! Very impressed with this album. Quadeca really showed a lot of growth from his previous project (From me to You) on this project (I didn’t mean to haunt you) Evoking memories of Childish Gambino’s “Awaken, my Love” and Tyler, the Creator’s “IGOR” I didn’t mean to haunt you is a journey from top to bottom. While most songs left me feeling inspired and impressed, a few left me questioning decisions and feeling more overwhelmed than anything.
Favorite songs: Knots, Fantasyworld, Born Yesterday
Least favorite song(s): Picking up Hands
Score: 8

What would you rate this new quadeca project out of 10? What was your favorite and least favorite song?
A solid 8
I’d give it a strong 7 to light 8
Favorite Track: Tell Me a Joke
Least favorite track: knots (Surprisingly)
@@khybruss3117 thats super surprising tbh cause knots might be my favorite as its the easiest to listen to out of the album setting and still hella vibe to
9.5/10 album of the year for me
9.5/10
Just say you don’t understand dynamic mixing. The whole album is mixed quieter so it has room for those loud moments. This is how songs used to be mixed before all songs started being mixed loud af.
yea totally agree
I think quadeca could’ve continued to make more mainstream/ Spotify playlist worthy songs but really tried to push himself and create something that sounds unique and interesting so credit to him for pushing boundaries
I'll never be mad at someone for being creative
It's funny cause he never made a mainstream/playlist worthy song until from me to you and now this album.
Picking up hands and sorry4dying have been on apple music playlists for more than a month now
hey! just noticed you were a bit confused about the static, so here’s a little background: cassini’s division is the gap between two of Saturn’s rings. from earth, it looks like a black line between the rings. this line is symbolic of “the inbetween” mentioned in “dont mind me” which slowly consumes Ben/the ghost throughout the album. though he tries to fight it at first, tries to hold onto memories and grudges and regret and anger, eventually he reaches some sort of acceptance and peace which you hear in the final monologue. it seems to still be a frightening experience he tries to fight with less resistance than before, evident by what sounds like whimpers and cries, however he is eventually overcome by the static, consumed by the void, the “inbetween.”
also on knots he mentions that he dosent fade to black, he cuts to static which eventually is how the album ends
Really cool bit of info here! It's dope for the concept of the album, It just takes forever 😂 after the first listen I'd be skipping that ending asap
@@Gatsb7 then you'd be missing part of the experience.
I feel like this is the type of album that you listen to as a whole. I could listen to a few songs isolated from the album but the experience of listening to the whole album is just levels above
Yeah definitely an old school approach to things.
Album gets a ten from me ..lovely to see you much love an God bless always x
BEEN WAITING FOR THIS 🥰🥰
Hope I came thru for you homie!
This is my album of the year. Glad to see you reacting to it!
1:17:05 you hit the nail right on the head! He said on Twitter that fantasyworld is a flashback in the context of the album, and given the album is a story of a ghost grieving his family, Fantasyworld is the culmination of his life.
I'm not a total dummy sometimes
@@Gatsb7 a lot of what you said was spot on and this is from a guy who probably has listened to the album 400,000 times 😂 great reaction bro!
My aoty as well
Easily the best album to come out of a UA-camr especially from this scene even if this scene is dead nowadays compared to when he blew up back in 2017. Hell he even made a better record than Joji did this year.
i dont think the mix is about him "remaining mysterious" as much as it is him going all in on the concept and making it sounds like he's literally a ghost in the booth. I definitely agree that there is a tradeoff with that though, yes the album has a lot of meaning and depth that is enjoyable to listen to all the way through, but when it comes to individual song listening where you probably don't want to look at genius, the movie, or analyze every detail it doesn't have as much to offer. It's a great album for respecting and appreciating the art but not as much for everyday enjoyment unless you're in a specific mood maybe.
This album is definitely a whole experience, and i say that as both a pro and a con. As a whole listen-through, getting absorbed into the atmosphere and vibe of the whole album, is absolutely ethereal, powerful, and emotional. On the other side, apart from a couple songs, i cant see myself adding most songs to a regular playlist or returning to them all that much. Especially the slower songs and the outro track, they're really just not tracks you'd ever return to isolated.
Love you and Quadeca bro, glad to see this reaction!
BRO! Ive gotta stop back by your stream soon. Miss you and your gorgeous hair, bro
@Gatsb7 you're welcome anytime my G! Appreciate you!
Merry Christmas to you x
I love this album personally. Im happy Quad went for a full concept album and made it sound so chill and themed. Side note, it gives me 'the audio form of a few mushroom trips' vibe 😆
I love this reaction
We love gats in his music theory bag
I love getting in this bag babyyyyy
Brief explanation of idmthy:
The character of the album is a version of Quadeca who follows through on taking his own life. He was stuck in a life he felt was not worth living and he became fascinated by the idea of not existing so he took his own life. To his surprise he ascends into a ghostly form of himself and quickly begins to regret his decision. He watches over his family as they move on from his death and he becomes desperate to communicate with them as he feels like he is being forgotten. In a moment of weakness and selfishness, he sets off a carbon monoxide leak with the hopes of his mother being able to see him in the hallucinations. This attempt to communicate failed and he almost ended up killing his mother. He is overwhelmed with guilt, loneliness, and the idea of being forgotten causing him to have a panic attack. After calming down, he reflects on the moments leading up to his suicide with a newfound perspective gaining some amount of closure. “let me go but don’t let go of me”. He is then able to enter the void and become consumed by static as he achieves his original goal of not existing. Only this time he wishes he could be alive with his loved ones.
Least favorite song being Picking Up Hands is a crime. It's so underrated. It's honestly almost a masterpiece, but gets looked past a lot because it doesn't have a big feeling of importance. But the song is beautiful.
perfect volume for me lol all around
What a phenomenal breakdown of my personal album of the year, great stuff mate.
Much love, bro!
Full Album Breakdown..... Let's Go 🔥.
Let's gooo
I really like the volume rise, you become completely wrapped in the song and I love that feeling. I can see why its not your thing tho, personal preference on my part. Also Fantasyworld is peak, only song ive heard that has made me cry
I have overplayed Don't mind me and fractions of infinity so much and they have not gotten old
I like dont mind me a lot
overall, light 9, favourite house settling, least cassinis division
honestly after re listening to this... casinis di, is absolutely stunning
one of my favourite albums of all time
finally
No human is perfect, but I am not human.
Facts
This album is incredibly interesting and as good as I think most of the music is… there aren’t many songs I’d put on a playlist. Tbh I think the songs that stand alone best were the singles and the rest don’t listen well. Even Fantasyworld, which was my favorite, I wouldn’t listen to because of the long outro, which fits in the album but is frustrating as a song, and I think he had a lot of things like that which enhanced the album, but made the songs difficult to listen to on their own
My thoughts exactly. It's an excellent experience but how much will I revisit?
I guess it’s something you just cherish for it being a really nice work of art but that’s all.
Picking up hands is straight up my favourite song from the album :(
That's the beautiful thing about music is it's all subjective! I probably love stuff that you don't like too!
@@Gatsb7 you mean subjective i think
@VIDEOSBYMILLS hahaha "it's all objective, your opinion sucks."
@@Cinder36 Lololol I was driving and wasn’t thinking straight. There are objective truths in music but subjective is what I meant 🤣🤣🤣
@@Gatsb7 Texting and driving Gatsb? You're really digging your own GRAVE here. Lmao.
easy 9 out of 10 album, maybe more. Found it recently and it's currently all I listen to.
w gatsb
Bro called Picking Up Hands derivative 😭
Imagine not liking a track like picking up hands lol
Quadec and Arsenal in the same video?
Cant complain
GOD DID
This better be clickbait gats lmao
I never clickbait
I hate that when I listen to the album I have to adjust the sound while listening to get to my volume preferences. Voices are quiet, instrumentals loud, even in areas w/ low instrumental and important lyrics. It’s frustrating
That's what I was checking at 51:00 because that's how I was feeling as well.
the album isn't about that.
It’s purposefully mixed low, you are supposed to hear his voice in the background
tldr: no
I thought the album ain't that good on a first listen! I listened to it again and again, I think the album is okay but the album probably be 5.5/10 but I rather listen to FMTY instead
That's fair!
