I can’t believe no one else has mentioned it yet, but you should absolutely listen to Boygenius. It’s Phoebe’s band with Julien Baker and Lucy Dacus, and it’s absolutely amazing!
Connor oberst does background vocalists on this album (the male vocalist on halloween) and that reminds me of how much a lot of folk artists owe to connor oberst's outfit "Bright Eyes" Specifically their album "Im wide awake its morning" which you should throw into the polls I think. It's one of the most unique folk albums ever vocally, extremely dense and written beautifully. Hear me out on this one
Everytime I’m a bit late to these and get to see the comment section, it always makes me smile, man. Been here for a while, and the community you’ve build here is so awesome, genuinely. So many cool people with amazing music taste. What’s even crazier is that it’s only gonna get better from here!! What a Journey So far bro, 10k soon as well ❤
Really recommend listening to “I’m wide awake it’s morning” by bright eyes. The singer, Conor oberst, did the background vocals on Halloween and they made a Collab album called “Better Oblivion Community Center”. He’s one of her biggest influences and he even sort of helped discover Phoebe early on
Love the videos! A few recommendations: Process - Sampha (experimental r&b, great production) Nurture - Porter Robinson (light summer electric with fun production) Koi No Yokan or White Pony - Deftones (very heavy, sexier and heavier radiohead imo) Hypochondriac - Brakence (very experimental emo rap, glitch pop)

I know it will be repeated ad nauseum, but this is allegedly supposed to be some sort of love letter to Elliott Smith, one of her biggest influences. I think the sentiments tie over to real life experiences she's had, so obviously it's not that cut and dry. Although, the parallels between his lifestyle, creativity/artistic talent, bleeding open heart, and ultimate demise...and the lyrical content/musical tribute on this album, cannot be ignored. Love the vid, you have hit nothing but bullseyes with these reactions. My favorite reaction channel, keep it up!
I Know The End is always such a goddamn cathartic experience. Any song that goes full Godspeed by the end has my vote. Also just gonna gently push Magnolia Electric Co once again as an essential listen
the song punisher is about elliott smith and a fictional encounter she has with him. you should totally react to his other albums you haven’t heard (figure 8, XO, roman candle, and from a basement on the hill).
Jeff really had to come in at the end and push you over the edge 😂 Good stuff as always mate, I’d be keen to see you give the Decemberists a spin, Castaways and Cutouts is a fave of mine
love your reactions man, funny and authentic. you always understand both the lyrics and the production and what is trying to be conveyed. thanks for the content
Please give the album "ENTERTAINMENT, DEATH" by Spirit of the Beehive a listen. It's a really really unique sounding record that kinda goes under the radar.
I know the end always got me on the verge of tears bro this shit is crazy My recommendation would be I Want To Be There by Sadness. I will recommend this album to death. Just look at the album cover and you'll understand everything
Hey man! You have got to check out the new Sampha record, Lahai. His first in 6 years. It’s fucking unbelievable! Some great electronic, alt-R&B. I think you would love it:)
chinese satellite is one of my favorites. my interpretation is that shed hold onto any belief: religion, aliens, or even put faith in a satellite as if it were a star she could wish upon if it meant there was something more waiting for them. even if its all stuff against her prior beliefs she would choose to believe if it meant this. she wants to believe in something, anything.
Hell yeah pheebs! This is a super random recommendation but Si On Avait Besoin d'une Cinquieme Saison is an incredible prog album by Harmonium that i think you would love. Its beautiful and melodic and the instrumentation is brilliant. One of the best prog albums imo
Arctic monkeys- whatever people say i am, thats what im not (legendary debut album. one of the best indie rock albums ever. indie rock with a british punk flair. bangers on bangers with great lyrics) Norah Jones- Little broken hearts (norah jones' best album. moody and dynamic. Great breakup album. Norah sounds invigorated and inspired. One of the best female indie pop albums of the last decade. Great production from danger mouse as well.)
You are the best reaction channel I have ever seen. album recommendations: phoebe bridgers stranger in the alps, nothing but thieves broken machine, elton john captain fantastic, tamino amir, portamento the drums, when you see yourself kings of leon, last night in the bittersweet paolo nutini
Thank you for reacting to this, love Phoebe to death, and yeah it’d be cool to see you react to Stranger in the Alps, which I actually like more. I think Smoke Signals is Phoebes best song. My biggest recommendation though is Palmless Prayer/Mass Murder Refrain by MONO, a really underrated post-rock/modern classical album thats my favorite album of all time. Its hard to describe why I love it so much, but it’d be amazing to see you react to it, it gets basically no recognition online and you’re my favorite reactor
You know how there are some albums that you go like "damn, I'd do anything to listen to this for the first time again"? Well, Punisher is definitely not that: it still sounds to me as gorgeous as it did the first time, and God knows I've had many goes at it. Masterpiece. (btw, the song Punisher is about Elliott Smith, who she's obsessed with. She moved to the area he had lived in just to be close to him. Well, as close you can be to someone who's dead and you never met.)
the title track, punisher, is about elliott smith! thats why she mentions never meeting him. look into it for sure. really sad song, a real punch in the gut.
You should check out Better Oblivion Community Center, a lil side project album from her and Connor Oberst (the male vocals on Halloween) from Bright Eyes.
I would highly recommend checking out 'The Idyll Opus (I-VI)' by the band Adjy, it's a really fantastic mix of indie, folk, pop, and acoustic with a little orchestral flair once in a while. It's also a interesting concept album so if you wanna dive deeper into the lyrics you can. Even if it's not for your channel I would suggest giving the album a listen, I think you'd get a lot out of it. Love the album reactions, while watching it feels like this is just what you'd be doing on your own time while listening to a new album but you just happen to be recording it.
i ran out of comment ideas, anyways, i love your content and keep it up, also my recommendations: Death Grips - The money Store Death Grips - Ex Military much love from Chile ❤
God I love this album haha, i think you'd really like lomelda's hannah if you enjoyed this album, it's pretty similar but with more of a folk direction
3 albums i'd love to see you react to, all great and highly regarded when they were released, and youd be the first on youtube to react: Shields - Grizzly Bear Heavy Ghost - DM Stith You&Me - the Walkmen
Hey man. I know you've got a long backlog of albums to get through, but I think you should try "The Unicorns" self titled. Strange, fun and overall great album.
Smags I love you so much, but you physically need to finish listening to the Swans Trilogy!!! Listen to The Seer and The Glowing man please!! Also- tonnes of other swans projects deserve some time, like their most recent The Beggar, their harsh FILTH and even The Great Annihilator amongst others!!!! 💓💓💓
This whole album makes me think of my mom. ”So I will wait for the next time you want me Like a dog with a bird at your door” got me crying on the subway💀
Yo mr smags any new king gizzard and the lizard wizard soon? Their new album just dropped the other day (i wouldnt react to that next but omnium gatherum or polygondwanaland would be cool) thanks mr smags
The eye roll and the slump when the punisher chorus kicks in is the realest reaction yet
I can’t believe no one else has mentioned it yet, but you should absolutely listen to Boygenius. It’s Phoebe’s band with Julien Baker and Lucy Dacus, and it’s absolutely amazing!
Their album «the record» is one of the best albums released this year if you ask me :)
Smags never fails to fill me up with his content
Oh bebeh!
Oh to be filled with his content
My homepage is truly pregnant with smags thumbnails
I Know the End is the perfect song to end this album. It crushes me every time, especially at the end where she's just quietly screaming into the mic
This album is genuinely one of the most beautiful things I've had the pleasure of listening to.

Bridgers and Oberst have collaborated a lot (see better oblivion community centre) and probably had a tumultuous relationship (see moon song)

Such a beautiful album. Thanks for reminding me to listen to it again.
