I, too, appreciated this. I might not have been able to finish the video if it wasn't there, I'm glad I was able to stick around to see the end tower. The one on the top triumphantly waving a sprig of parsley is my favourite.
Loren Adiutori Fish heads and offcuts are often thrown out, and so if you ask for some, fishmongers will often give you them for free as they'd otherwise go to waste!
You can learn more about crawfish in the following books: Looking for crawfish An abundance of crawfish Crawfish towns The fault in our crawfish Crawfish all the way down
Great job on the Crayfish tower!!!as a Chef I make chocolate strawberry towers for banquets alot, usually I'll use kale to cover the foam cone.then put toothpicks in the foam and puncture the chocolate covered strawberries with the toothpick on the one side so they're hanging...Ill have to order Dalis cookbook...classic 70s nouvelle cuisine.👍Thanks for sharing.
Wow. Two favorite bits: 1) The array of antennae (or whatever those were) over the lemon/tomato at the pinnacle. 2) The various faces of creation during assembly. Epic. Focused. Always seeking to be at one with cold crayfish. Bravo
I have enjoyed the journey that this channel has taken and I can't understand why more people don't watch these videos. My goal for 2018 is to introduce this channel to all my friends.
What I love about the Art Cooking series is the the line that always comes: the artist and their s.o. were know for their dinner parties. It reminds that all artists crave community. It reminds me of my college days and cooking with my two friend. Me like a little Italian Granny painting a Pollock, one friend who cooks like a mathematician painting a classic masterpiece and our third trying to balance us out. As the tiny loft apartment filled with our friends. A sea of people, all in the arts, who were sitting wherever they could even picnic style on the floor. The laughs we share, the sense of home-- it's something that can be replaced.
Alexandra Valerious I'm so putting 11 in... Or I would if I wouldn't much rather make a crawfish boil if I'm going through all the effort of making them anyways. No newspaper though.
I think it is so funny that you had to special order the crawfish. Down here in Texas, they are at every grocery store. But, did you actually eat this?
Yes of course! I love crawfish. We ate some on site, but then I pulled the tail meat and made a kind of etoufee to serve over rice. Do you eat them regularly?
I'm somewhat close to the coast in the capitol of Oregon (Not Portland... Eugene ain't it either...). There's two buffets in town that keep crawfish all year round usually, but other than that no one ever has anything like it except the super rare single night crab leg buffet night. Where ya won't get any cause someone just walked off with the whole tray the second it was set down. So I can imagine how extraordinarily rare these things must be away from the coastal states...
I love how art is so incredibly interwoven with daily menial tasks, like cooking can be. And how both end up benefitting greatly, resulting in awesome art & impressive cooking. Thank you Art Assignment!
My psychology major brother over heard the part where you quoted how Dali felt about eating suits of arms and said "that's exactly how a schizophrenic's logic works." That explains so much about Dali .
Really nice collection of photos and quotes from a multifaceted personality, who manipulated media attention to his benefit like an early Warhol (well, maybe). I did feel an eyebrow raise in doubt at the assertion (in passing) that Tristan Tzara founded Dada, but I'll just suggest reading the entertaining and baffling history of Dada called Destruction Was My Beatrice. Only because that book made it hard for me believe that Dada had a coherent birth-life-death narrative that jibes at all with the facts.
This entire product looked amazing. I hope they tasted good and everyone who got to partake enjoyed them. That is a very striking way to display food and you've introduced me to an artbook I'd love to have
Your stove top is pristine. Love it. I was thinking that your tower of shrimp might be easier to construct if you stuck toothpicks strategically along the length/height of the tower so the shrimp would have something to grasp onto. I live in Montana and there is a lake nearby where wild crayfish roam/scuttle. They’re quite delicious. I love your commentary while cooking. Very funny and informative. Thank you!
I cannot believe I didn't know about this channel until now, I love art. It is fitting that this is the first video I see though since Dali is my favourite artist.
I actually made this for a Mardis Gras dinner a year ago after getting Dali's cookbook for Christmas. Bompas & Parr actually recommend a plywood pyramid and a staple gun to attach the crawfish (which I did. . . . ). Everybody was wild for it.
my mouth is watering, while my heart is bleeding a little. i keep crustaciens as pets .. and i love shellfish! give humble thanks instead of feeling guitly, and dig in! i would have loved at least a few snapshots of this feast being enjoyed. PS :for heads and bones for a good fish stock, look for a russian store in your area.
As much content as this video has, it most of all reminded me how fun it can be to take hours to prepare a really good looking dish. The organisation of all ingredients, exactly following complicated instructions (or your own inspired ideas), painstakingly adding sprigs of herbs to decorate... I might not go for the Dali tower, but this video inspired me to go and use some of my vacation to prepare something really nice for new year's eve!
FINALLY!!! An English speaking person that pronounced his surname correctly and says dah-LEE instead of DAH-lee. Thank you! :) PS. And in case some doesn't know, his first name is pronounced sal-vah-DOOR not SAL-vah-door.
I got to see a Dali painting in person, it was 'La Gare de Perpignan', at the Ludwig Museum in Koln. To see his work in person can not be described nor can it be replicated in reprints or online images. It's honestly astonding.
I love these videos. It's hard to appreciate art when your just trying to make ends meet Everyone needs to eat Most people favorite memories are of meals with family and friends. I also appreciate how you are making things from artists from different times when thoughts about food were different. Embrace the meat sculpture. This has to favorite one because your crawfish finished piece looked great. The picture from the book of the crawfish looked like a beatifual Christmas tree.
This is amazing, I’m so glad this channel exists! It is a perfect cooking video 😭😭😭 I feel like “yes, YES, we are going to talk about food and art and awesome people who loved great food, and a little bit about our crucial reality”. Also, once again, Dali has some perfect quote for every subject that there is 🍾
D M There is one! Although not a very thorough look on his legacy, Robert Pattinson plays Dali in Little Ashes. It mainly focuses on his early life but it's still very enjoyable
Having grown up in Louisiana, it's kind of neat to see one of my favorite, most nostalgia-rich foods, which, as you mention, are usually just piled atop newspaper, elevated like this. The critique of greed and opulence is valid, but, in the case of food, I think that opulence can become egalitarian. Cajun crawfish is a product of a socioeconomically disadvantaged culinary tradition, but, by paying such careful attention to common ingredients, they are transformed into something sublime, maybe elevating every backyard crawfish boil a little bit in the process. I think that the recent(ish) trend of bringing what Tony Bourdain calls "the nasty bits" and unloved cuts of food back into fine dining operates along the same lines, giving overlooked cuisines Michelin stars and the respect they deserve (hopefully not in an appropriative/exploitative way)...
wow that's a truly impressive end result! also fascinating to see an example of a collaboration that Dalí did--I always think of him as a bit of a solitary art kook.
I thought it was such a weird coincidence that I own the same shirt Sarah's using! Then I realized that I bought it from this show! Oh my goodness those crayfish crawling!
Bravo bravo - seen two books through your channel I would so love to hold in my hands ... by chance I have some uniquely rare art books. Would so love to add to that collection.
somewhere far away, a crayfish is making a tower of women who like art
This comment deserves more likes.
That’s how I want to go
Rolla Coasta Ride 👌 perfect
yes!
I appreciate the strategically placed artwork over the pot of boiling crayfish
I, too, appreciated this. I might not have been able to finish the video if it wasn't there, I'm glad I was able to stick around to see the end tower. The one on the top triumphantly waving a sprig of parsley is my favourite.
Do you eat crayfish?
The little crayfish triumphantly holding the herbs at the top of the crayfish cadaver tower truly pulls the whole thing together
distractedbirdu i laughed so loudly at that. RIP crayfish.
The crayfish unboxing was better than I could have ever hoped for.
I audibly gasped when one of the Crayfish fell from the tower, but not as loudly as when Sarah said the fish guy didn't charge her.
Loren Adiutori Fish heads and offcuts are often thrown out, and so if you ask for some, fishmongers will often give you them for free as they'd otherwise go to waste!
I love how salty Sarah is about not having the fish bones :D
Sara Hanfler at least she has salty fish to make up for her saltiness over bones!
... sorry, this wordplay probably isn’t great...
I love the crayfish on top holding a sprig of parsley, bravo!
That was Mark's idea ;)
Complete with its finely twined Dali mustache!
I missed the mustache XD you guys are brilliant
Yes! an excellent touch :D
This is my favorite art assignment show
my opinions are facts 8
I love this series with all of my heart
You can learn more about crawfish in the following books:
Looking for crawfish
An abundance of crawfish
Crawfish towns
The fault in our crawfish
Crawfish all the way down
2001: A crawfish odyssey
an absolutely remarkable crawfish
@@graceoartyo a beautifully foolish crawfish
To kilo a crayfish bird
I can't believe she cooks them alive after reading "Consider the lobster"
ada19z no one could put that many to sleep quickly enough
You're supposed to slide them in the middle of their heads before boiling. It's all in how you do things
Crawfish all the way down.
Rich Faircloth crayfish all the was down in your pants
Wow the futurist meat tower monstrosity has competition now!
Fulano de Tal ...And just when I'd forgotten about that thing, you had to drag back into my memory.
Erwghhhhhhh😨 the horror, the horror.....
#neverforget
I love the effort you put in these videos
Wow. Two favorite bits:
1) The array of antennae (or whatever those were) over the lemon/tomato at the pinnacle.
2) The various faces of creation during assembly. Epic. Focused. Always seeking to be at one with cold crayfish.
Bravo
SO excited for this, Art Cooking is one of my favorite shows on this channel
Unboxing crayfish is art, fight me
fight accepted, where and when
strategically placed graphics are strategic
Sarah, you are my QUEEN.
This is, by far, the greatest series on UA-cam. Thank you for being wonderful!
But were the crayfish good?
Yes! Super delicious.
I’m impressed how good it looks tbh! Great video
The David Foster Wallace's essay that you mentioned is bloody brilliant. Everyone should read it, everyone should read DFW.
I have enjoyed the journey that this channel has taken and I can't understand why more people don't watch these videos.
My goal for 2018 is to introduce this channel to all my friends.
The Art Assignment is one of my favourite places on the internet. You people keep on delivering, thanks for all of your work!
I love this series! I’m a fan of cooking shows and of art history, bringing the two things together is delightful!

the whole thing is going to be ruined if it's not exactly 10 😂😂😂
Alexandra Valerious I'm so putting 11 in...
Or I would if I wouldn't much rather make a crawfish boil if I'm going through all the effort of making them anyways. No newspaper though.
The humor in this series is so enjoyable. Considered being quarantine for two weeks now, this is perfect. Thank you.
I absolutely adore this show and this channel!
That was a delightful video to watch.
I love this series probably a little too much
I think it is so funny that you had to special order the crawfish. Down here in Texas, they are at every grocery store. But, did you actually eat this?
Yes of course! I love crawfish. We ate some on site, but then I pulled the tail meat and made a kind of etoufee to serve over rice. Do you eat them regularly?
In restaurants mostly. As you know they are labor intensive to eat or cook with. So, yummy but I usually eat them about two times a season.
I'm somewhat close to the coast in the capitol of Oregon (Not Portland... Eugene ain't it either...).

that looks SO GOOD
Phenomenal job
loving this

What a wonderful sculpture!
I quite liked reading the comments before watching the video, then slowly unraveling what they meant by crayfish tower and crayfish unboxing.
Brilliant Sarah!
Awesome!
That was great!
I love Art Cooking! Such a unique way to get to know the artists.
could you do an art cooking with van Gogh?
Theresa Coles - It could be just plain boiled potatoes ( De Aardappeleters) or straight up paint. (okay maybe he didnt eat paint but come on)
first of all... how dare
There's some good news in your future.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They do have now!
Really nice collection of photos and quotes from a multifaceted personality, who manipulated media attention to his benefit like an early Warhol (well, maybe).

This ambitious aquatic creation is a true teetering treat.
Thank you for sharing this culinary feat!
This video is just everything UA-cam was created for!
The Great Crayfish Disaster of 2017
The word you’re looking for is Dead. And I’m so going to build a crayfish tower! Great work!
i looove this series.
I actually made this for a Mardis Gras dinner a year ago after getting Dali's cookbook for Christmas. Bompas & Parr actually recommend a plywood pyramid and a staple gun to attach the crawfish (which I did. . . . ). Everybody was wild for it.
I bought the cookbook the night before I was married (1974). It became my consolation prize.
8:33 Yep, this is why I only cook vegetarian foods at home!!
my mouth is watering, while my heart is bleeding a little. i keep crustaciens as pets .. and i love shellfish!
give humble thanks instead of feeling guitly, and dig in! i would have loved at least a few snapshots of this feast being enjoyed.

This video is so delightful!
So so so excited to find this in my subscription box!!! I adore this series
I love these art cooking videos!
This is purely brilliant

Dali-esque.
Well done.
(Learned a lot, thank you.)
Came from the brothers' channel, this is so neat Sarah! :)
Amazingly impressive. Bravo!
I love these videos. It's hard to appreciate art when your just trying to make ends meet

Quite a success
As much as I enjoyed this video
This man's life needs to be a movie
D M There is one! Although not a very thorough look on his legacy, Robert Pattinson plays Dali in Little Ashes. It mainly focuses on his early life but it's still very enjoyable
Nina De Leon I'm definitely gonna look for it. Thanks a lot
This was amazing. And thank you for covering the boiling crayfish.
I love watching these, they are beautifully done and really engaging and interesting, this was awesome, quality content

This was really interesting! Would love to see more
This is such a good video, thank you.
Need the book!!!
I’m in love with these art assignment episodes. Also, am I the only one that calls them Crawdads? Either way, yum!
I thought Cray fish needed to be purged with salt before cooking and eating??
That looks delicious, I really want a big crayfish boil now!
Sadly our copy got stolen, but this is amazing! Always wondered what it would look like IRL.
I LOVE THIS SO MUCH!!!!
Love it
I really like this 👌🏻 not just because is Dali is the interpretation of the Crayfish dish😍😍😍
pleeease do more fromt his book! I loved this!
Bravo bravo - seen two books through your channel I would so love to hold in my hands ... by chance I have some uniquely rare art books. Would so love to add to that collection.
Ana amal m3ak fel groupe tbarek allah 3lik
What part of Indianapolis are you from I live just north of Westfield and have access to lots of different ingredients if you ever need help
Great Video
This is high quality folks
Currently binge watching all of the Art Cooking videos. By far this is my favorite; like I shouldn’t be saying this but now I want some seafood.
this is probably the wrong reaction here, but now i really wanna eat shellfish
lorenabpv That's what Dali would want...
Though, oysters or mussels may be a tad easier to eat :P
Rusty Shackelford which I hate both those things, lol. But if it was a tower of crab legs....OH BOI
wow looks so good !!
I just got to the part where the crayfish are being dropped and I love this so much.
I love these vids and your commentary so much lol
great content, Thanks!
