I’ll be doing this next year, I’m new to adv bikes and off-road riding. My first trail was out in the Allegheny which was challenging but a blast. I even got a few dents in the tank to take home as souvenirs 😂 thanks for posting this. Smooth sailing it seems.
Fantastic ride and video! Great filming, editing, narration, music, the whole smash. Super well done and extremely helpful. Not quite good enough yet to take this on solo on a heavy ADV. Maybe next year. Hope you guys get to do the entire MABDR, maybe the CPAAT. Ride hard, be safe.
Thank you! The full MABDR is on my list. And the NEBDR which was on the docket for next month but unfortunately got cancelled. There is always next year! Stay safe? RK
Great video, thanks for taking the time to produce and share your first BDR adventure! I have been riding for over half a century. Rode dirt bikes as a kid and raced flat track in my late teens but haven't been off road since. I've been Moto camping for a few years now off my Harley Ultra Limited and have become very interested in Adventure/BDR riding. I recently turned 60 and treated myself by adding a 2023 BMW 1250 GSA to the stable. I live in northwest NJ and I'm planning a ride to Montana and the Northwest next summer taking backroads and hitting some western BDR's. In the meantime, I want to get my "dirt legs" and plan on riding the PA Wilds BDR-X followed by the MABDR within the next few weeks. So newbie to newbie ...would you be comfortable riding your GS w/aluminum panniers on the PA Wilds as a first ride?
Well thank you for taking the time to watch my video! It sounds like you have lots of experience on two wheels. Having done the full PA Wilds loop and a little bit of the MA I would totally feel comfortable taking the GS. There really is only one or two rocky sections but they are not overly difficult. Just take your time. My only caveat would be the weather and your tires. It was dry for us which likely made it easier. I don’t think rain would make the trails too slippery but I can’t validate that. On another note, I put about 10k miles a year on my GS and can’t tell you how much I love that bike. I hope you enjoy yours as much as I do. Good luck! RK
@@theroadknight2669 Great to hear, thank you!!! Can't wait to see your MA adventures!! And although I only have about 400 miles on my GSA, of which only a few dozen are off pavement, it is hands down the best bike I have ridden! ...thank you again for sharing your adventures, perhaps one day we will pass on a BDR!!! ✌
Thanks for a great video preview. I'll be doing the route in the spring. I note that the section start/end points differ between the online map, PDF map, and GPX tracks. Any insight? Thanks again.
@@marcoluoma3770 I just downloaded the GPX tracks from the RideBDR website and then uploaded them to my Garmin. I just rode to the beginning of each route and went from there. I find that routes are always a little finicky so I recommend isolating the “track” and following it vs creating a route. Hope that helps. Ride safe!
I wish this was a little closer than 3.5 hours from me. Would like to ride this one day. Do you know of anything closer the southwestern part of the state?
Sorry bud! We trailered the bikes in from Ontario Canada. I just followed the BDR website GPX file. There are so many utility roads in PA to explore so there must be an off-road trail map available somewhere. Good luck!
Hi I'm Wayne! Love your video!!! I live in the Hedgesville WV area and am looking for a good friend or friends that like to ride motorcycles (especially ADV motorcycles), go fishing, camping, back road and trail riding, exploring, or just hanging out with like minded people! If you or anyone you know needs a good friend, like I do, and is interested in getting out of the house and going on some adventures please let me know!
I comment on videos asking for advice a d nobody responds. Does anyone even see my comments because it seems as tho I'm blocked or something. So weird. I'm looking for an adventure bike and I need advice. Ugh
Tell them it’s totally worth it and it’s very doable for first timers. Good luck!
Thanks for sharing your adventure. I can't wait to give the PA BDR-X a go in the future.
We had a great time. Not too challenging and absolutely beautiful back country. Good luck!
This was great to watch! I’m 56 and trying to get my lifelong buddies to join me ! Thanks for the inspiration! 😅

Great video! Did the PA BDR-X last spring and have a trip planned again for this upcoming spring. Good stuff, thanks for sharing.
Great job on the trip video Rich and Colene! Thanks for sharing your expertise before and during the trip. Can’t wait to hit the trails again!
Always a good day when The Roadknight posts another vid!
More to come!

Thanks for commenting. Yes, this BDR is pretty straightforward. And it absolutely beautiful in the forest! Good luck.
Awesome video! Karns is near me and a great spot to stop if you needed anything at all :) Thanks for taking us along.
Gotta respect a bike shop that priorities getting travellers back on the road! Ride safe!

Where do you find the BDR course downloads?
Great trip.
You’ll find all the GPX files at ‘RideBDR.com’. Good luck!

Great video! Did ya ride the Tenere with the stock seat??
@@darrinbruns4029 I sure did! It’s not great but I stand up a lot and can easily manage a full day on the bike.

There's Wharton State Forest in NJ. Not as interesting and very sandy, but many miles of dirt roads through the woods.
