  • A time lapse of my complete build of the Revell Millennium Falcon along with some still images (06718)
The build itself went together very well and there weren’t too many pieces so it came together rather quickly but it was very enjoyable. I airbrushed the rear blue part which gave a nice even colour and the decal a nice surface to sit on. For the main grey colour I used a rattle can as a lot of paint was needed but it gave the perfect finish.
The clear parts were a little weird and weren’t as transparent as they usually are, I think it might be because the windows are small and all the parts are slightly curved and thick. I tried to make them look a little better but it was hard to do because of the small size, in the end they do the job but it’s a shame Han Solo and Chewbacca along with some of the detail in the cockpit isn’t completely visible.
Painting the detail of the model was quite difficult. With the unusual panel shapes preventing masking it meant hours of painting by hand as neatly as possible which ended up being pretty therapeutic. This kit was easily the hardest paintjob I’ve done but the end result looks brilliant. There were also plenty of decals to be applied, some struggled to sit properly with the raised detail on the model but after a few coats of a decal solution and a little coaxing they settled nicely. A few ended up being unusually brittle and started to split but when positioned on the model the decal sat well.
Once all the painting was done the model still looked quite flat so the next challenge was to try and bring out some areas in the weathering process. I looked at some reference images and videos which led me to decide to use weathering powders which worked great in getting into all the small gaps and gave a great finish especially with the exhaust smoke. Afterwards, chipping was added in areas that I saw in the images that were damaged. I also drilled some holes into the top of the model and weathered them to look like blaster damage, I think they came out convincing.
As decals leave a glossy finish when applied I finished off the model with a spray of matt varnish giving the final finish and sealing the weathering.

Well i think you just convinced me to put one of these on laybuy at my local hobby shop
Although I'm seriously tempted to try convert into the variant that has the cockpit in the center...

Any idea how this compares to the Bandai kit? Is there really any major difference - other than Price??

Sorry but I’m not too familiar with the Bandai kit other than having watched some UA-cam videos on it. I know the Bandai kit is much more detailed but I can’t really give you a good idea on any other points. Sorry. Best of luck:)

    Beautiful job on the Falcon.
.Urgent question: I recently purchased the FineMolds 1/72 Falcon online- but the scammers who sold it did not include the bottom half of the Falcon! ( They gave me duplicate top halves instead.) Now I know why it was so cheap ($125) Wondering (hoping)
I can do some surgery and use the MPC bottom half and graft / sculpt/ merge it onto the FineMolds top half. Possible?! Your opinion please. Thank you!

Thank you very much👍 Sorry to hear about your encounter with scammers. I think it would be do able but obviously there are a lot of differences between the top and bottom sides which will be noticeable especially at 1/72 scale. It’s all down to what you want to do really. Now you’ve bought it if it was me I’d still make it as I couldn’t really do much else with a kit missing such a large piece. Best of luck👍

Hi, for the smaller details and interior I used humbrol acrylics as I had loads lying around so just converted the revell codes on the instructions to humbrol and used them. Then for the exterior and larger areas I just used the revell colours that were shown in the instructions. They’re quite a specific shade of grey so didn’t want to use a different manufacturer. Hope this helps. Cheers
