I have a video on a custom shaped cover that might give you the information you need. It has a boxing strip, welt, zipper and ties, so you can take just what you need from it :)
I recently took apart shredded cushion covers and discovered that the cushion batting had been sewn closed with a loose ladder stitch. Using a spray adhesive for the batting seems so much easier. 🙂
My friend, I don’t know how you managed to do the spray and glue and shaping without gloves. I have fibers all over my fingers right now. 😅 It was a different spray adhesive from JoAnne’s, but it appeared to work the same. Love this set of videos.
Hi Nancy! I’m so thrilled to find your channel!!! This is so helpful!! I’m getting ready to make my first cushion- an L Shape that was cut out to my seat measurements by upholstery shop. Should I cut my fabric 1/4 inch smaller, since I didn’t have foam cut 1/4 inch larger? Thank you!
Hi there! The size of the cover dictates the finished size of the cushion, so if making the cover a little smaller won’t result in the cushion being too small you could certainly do that. However if that 1/2” overall will make a visual difference where the cushion looks a bit small for the space you could try adding an additional layer of Dacron wrap. Or maybe split the difference and make the cover 1/8” smaller all around :)
Thank you for this video, I been thinking to change the cushions of the dinning table chairs. And didn’t know how to cut the foam. Thanks again. 😘🫶🏼❤️🧵🪡 oh by the way I just subscribed to your channel. 🎉💃🏻
I have used silk wrap in the past and found it helpful (mostly if the foam is not wrapped) but I don’t make enough cushions these days to make it worth keeping in stock
Hi Nancy, I'm about to start a project making several foam cushion covers. Please can you help me by explaining why I should wrap my foam with dacron first, rather than just use the foam by itself? Your videos are great BTW 👍
Sure! The reason foam is wrapped is that it gives the foam a softer and more luxurious look and feel. You can certainly just wrap the foam, but it looks very "boxy".
Thank you for a gr8 video . I am going to try changing my sofa cushions want to make it firmer... Any suggestions where should i buy good quality firm foam - i think i need 50 ILD
Hi there, I use upholstery foam, and the kind depends on the project. It comes in different densities and thicknesses. I use denser, firmer foam for thinner cushions, and softer foam for thicker cushions. I think this was 2" medium density.
Certainly! Just take off the old and replace with new using spray adhesive or wrapping and whipstitching the edges to hold it in place. Take note of the condition of the foam though - if the Dacron is in really bad shape the foam may also need replacing.
You’re not wrong… I use them minimally, in a well ventilated space. There is adhesive that is applied with air pressure but that set up is for professional use. For the occasional home sewing project this is what we have 🤷♀️
My husband restricted me to using Spray 505 outdoors. The amount getting into the environment is minimal if used carefully, and a mask can be worn to avoid inhaling the spray. As a workaround you could experiment with a dilution of non toxic fabric glue mixed with water in a spray bottle, though it would need to completely dry and will likely not be as effective.
You’re such a great teacher. Great video. Thanks so much.
You make it look so doable. I'm going to try this but with a simple rectangle cushion for my workshop seat 🙂
You had me at, “Don’t worry, as long as it looks pretty good you’re ok.” That’s when I tapped the subscribe button. Loved the video!
😂 Welcome!
Yet another way to do this! I’m going to get some spray adhesive, love this method.
I see most upholsterers use staples instead. Not sure how I feel about either staples or glue! I might do some large hand stitches!
@@elbanti I don’t like staples personally, but have done a big whip stitch with upholstery thread many times!
Beautiful piece of work, and a nice trick using the Rowley spray!
Thank you!
I needed this for my square foam cushion. I'm going to buy some adhesive. Do you have the video on the cushion cover?

It is faster and easier to use spray adhesive but I’ve actually sewn batting closed many times! It works just as well or better :)
Great video, thank you.
Thank you for this information. Can you demonstrate a circle table skirt? Thanks!
Great idea! I’ll add it to the list :)

My secret is years and years of practice (and I still always get a little bit on my fingers) 😂
So helpful. thank you!
Sooooo incredibly helpful!!!! Thank you for this.

Hi! I love your videos! Can you tell me about your sewing table? How wide, long, markings, etc. Thank you
Video on the table coming soon!!

You are awesome! Thank you 😍
Hi! I am just checking to see if you have done the video on your sewing table.
Thank you
@@cheriefletcher7217 I’m starting it on Friday! With any luck I’ll have it recorded by Saturday and uploaded within a week.

Very helpful thank you. Do you wrap in Stockinette after wrapping in Dacron?

I did the very same thing with my sectional and it was so worth it. I get my foam from a local upholstery supply business. Support local if you can :)
Good job🎉
Hello Teacher...what type of foam is used in there ?

If I just wanted to replace the Dacron is that possible

Is that an electric meat cutter?
It sure is! It works great!
Those sprays are so bad for the environment & your lungs.
