I bought mine in August of last year. I'm now at 15K miles and a 60.7 lifetime combined mpg average. Now that the weather has warmed, I expect that number to climb.
So glad to see Honda go the opposite direction of the Prius, which looks AWFUL in my opinion. This is looks perfect, and I actually love the wheels so I'll have to give you one zonk there Raiti. My lease is up in December so I was thinking about a Civic, but now this is top of my list. I don't see myself plugging in anytime soon, so this is perfect. I am a little worried about those arm rests though, especially with no shifter to rest my hand on.
I got to drive the hybrid Accord as a loaner and it was phenomenal. It is bigger and has more power than the Insight and I got 45 mpg running it hard too.
Honda used the name Insight for years in Japan before they ever made a hybrid. My 2019 Insight EX is absolutely awesome and I achieve at least the epa each time I fill it up.
Been carving traffic on the commute with my 2020 Insight and I'm still getting 41.5mpg. Got the Touring with the ivory leather and the metallic crimson paint. Been driving trucks and my old reliable 2001 Pathfinder 5 speed manual for the last 20 years. Got into this, and well, it's faster than my old type 2 VW Scirocco I had. Pretty sweet ride for $25,288. Offered them $24,888 for the touring and they came back only +$400 so I nabbed it. (Kept the Pathfinder for runs to Home Depot & whatnot. And well, duh...a 5 speed manual with a V6! Very rare & special! Ton of fun on dirt roads. 4WD ain't bad either. But 2WD with that manual is dirt drift city!)
New to hybrid here, what makes the car run? Fuel? Plug in and charge? Batteries needs to be changed frequently? Might consider myself this for daily driving.
Fuel only for the Insight. The Honda Clarity is a plug-in hybrid. The batteries will last for years. I've had my Insight for 2 years now..... you'll love it.
I don't know why this particular Insight has a pinstripe on the side. My red Insight has NO pinstripes AT ALL. I've watched other youtube videos using a white Insight and they didn't have any pinstripe either. I guess it must be an extra option that this dealership added on and I agree with you, I don't like it either & wouldn't pay an extra nickel for it
I own a 2019 insight and love the car, I’ve had it since November and already but 10,000 miles on it for work. Only down side of the car I have seen is the sound of the engine when reach speeds more than 65mph. It just gets loud but I’m use to it now and don’t notice it until someone says something. But I have the EX model which is the one below the touring, I recommend that because you get a lot of the features of a touring but you’ll miss out of the leather seats, nav, sun roof, and other small stuff not really worth mentioning. I love the car and recommend to anyone who wants to save money on gas since it’s only a 10 gallon tank!
I've had my 2019 Insight Touring since last July and love it also. The extra features on the touring model are more then worth the extra dollars. I get almost 500 miles per tank in the city during the summer in ECO mode even with its small 40 liter tank. I rarely ever go over 65 mph so the engine noise never bothers me. The only down side that I can think of is I'm a little disappointed in the highway mpg but most of my mileage are in the city & I get incredible mpg in the city. If I did a lot of highway driving I would have seriously considered the Corolla hybrid as it gets better mpg on the highway as opposed to the Insight which is much better in the city.
You are so correct Jacob..... you can't beat the smooth ride of the Insight. I never test drove a Corolla so I have no idea what it drives like, all I know for sure is Toyotas are very reliable & the Corolla gets great highway gas mileage. (they must have the secret sauce for highway mpg) My Insight gets about the same highway mpg as my 2002 Civic EX did in the past as I drove countless highway miles back & forth commuting to work on a major expressway. I'm not a fan of the new Civic as it mostly has Turbo engines & that's a deal breaker for me.
Another superb review Ratti. I like the way you go into detail with each vehicle. I’m with you on hard armrests. That might sway me away from buying a hybrid. But! Honda is actually ahead of its competition in Hybrid, Electric, and Gas variants. I’m thinking I may go over to a Honda Dealer and test drive a 19 Insight.
Just bought a White 2019 EX. Great car. Can't wait to save some $$$. My current ride gets about 25mpg. I drive over 750 miles a week for work as salesperson. After comparing a bunch of vehicles and driving many, this is what I decided on. Let the savings begin!
I own one. It pretty much suits all my needs at this time :). I would recommend 👌🏼👌🏼. EV mode isn't very good though! I wish it was more like the Clarity when it comes to E.V. mode.
I also own an Insight, the Clarity is about $10,000 more then the Insight Touring. Not sure if you could recoup all that money in a plug-in hybrid but I do like the Clarity also.
Very nice car. I would love to see you do a side-by-side comparison between the 2019 insight and 2019 Accord Hybrid to see which one is a better value. I would also like to see you do reviews and test drives of older vehicles that were very popular like the Honda CRX, Honda S2000, Nissan 240 Z, and Mazda RX-7
For the price you get a ton of features in this car. I think after my Chevy Cruze is paid off an Insight is next. I've also considered the Fit because I like smaller cars but there's something about getting 50mpg I can't get away from lol
You know you’re a car guy when you watch a video of a car that doesn’t interest you yet you watch anyhow because you know what you like more than cars? Knowledge.
You'll love it......I bought my 2019 Insight Touring model 11 months ago. Incredible car & I get better mpg then what they suggest, mind you I'm always in ECO mode which is the way I like it. It drives smooth as silk & you barely feel anything on ruts & potholes as opposed to the Accord Sport I test drove with low profile tires & I felt every single little bump on the road (I was NOT impressed with the low profile tires)
Omg, I just looked up the 1999 Honda Insight. That thing looks like something from a bad sci fi film. They turned an old stone into a diamond. New models are very pretty.
Great review! I’ve had this on my sedan list to take a look at, I actually think this is nicer than the Civic. And 50+ MPG is CRAZY! Curious, have you got the Acura ILX on your review list....or have you reviewed it and I missed it? Would be very interested in seeing a review of that car. You can get one (pre-owned) for about the same price as a used Civic. I think they are basically the same car, but the Acura IMO is much nicer looking than the Civic.

Thank you for this review. I like that you are detail oriented. I don't get the braking paddles though. Can you explain that more? I'll ask when I go look at one. 1 tip would be to avoid shouting even if you are outdoors . It made it rather hard to listen to.
It looks like the current gen Civic if it was designed by an adult. Very clean, understated, modern and not blobby like a Prius. Very good external design from Honda on this little car.
I just bought my girl a 2020 Insight Touring and it is NICE. The only thing I hate is how crappy it sounds when you get on the throttle! I actually prefer the rear end over my 2018 Accord.
I am really impressed with this car , but seems like it’s not available as new Model in Germany . Correct ? Do you recommend any other Hybrid model in same budget ?
I was thinking of getting this last year but since im in the northeast i needed a AWD vehicle for the winters. But i plan to get this next year as a commuter car to work during the good months.
The Prius does have an AWD hybrid but if I went that route I'd buy the Rav4 hybrid in which all models have AWD (small electric motors on the back wheels).
Looking to buy a car soon and I’m so indecisive. I watched the video on the 2019 Honda Civic sport touring trim , and I loved it . But now I’m starting to like this 😩 Which would you recommend? Please help 😭
Almost on every you tube video with honda insight test drive I see on display 40-42 mpg. Can you really get with the normal city driving 50 mpg or even higher?
If you do a lot of highway driving then you could go for the Corolla but if most of your driving is in the city then the Insight is hands down the better car for you & it's way more comfortable (I know I've owned one since last July)
I’m with you on wishing they thought out the tech stuff more. The back should have USB’s for sure and the random pad in the front should’ve been a charge pad. Not just a rubber mat area. Missed opportunity!
Great review! I'm curious to know how "fun," you think the drive is when using the paddles? They seem like something that would add to the drive experience in a good way, but I'm curious to know if your experience lined up with my assumption. Curious to know your thoughts, quality video!
Thanks for reaching out George! I think in the right environment they are fun, but I wonder if in a year they would still be as much fun? I know from driving manual I am always having fun no matter how long it has been. It is one hell of a top performer with the use of the paddles! I hope tat helps!
Truthfully, the wheels on the Insight are muchhhhh better compared to other hybrids. I feel like Toyota and Kia/Hyundai pick the ugliest rims for their hybrids. Also, the end of the Insight is beautiful. I think the Accord looks fine, but it could look nice on the Civic too.
My 2016 Honda Civic EX deathtrap. If your Honda has an electronic/electric parking brake it might cause you to crash. While driving my 2016 Honda Civic EX around 20 mph the electric parking brake engaged locking up and sliding the rear tires. The car was jerking. A light came on the dash saying 'computer error, have the parking brake serviced'. If I was traveling at a high speed and the electric parking brake locked the rear tires the car would go out of control and crash. The car is unsafe to drive so I had it hauled to the Honda of Cleveland Tenn service department. They worked on the car and the service department manager said nothing they did addressed or corrected the electronic/electric parking brake malfunction. The car was returned to me on 7/23/2019 . I ask the American Honda Motor Co., Inc for compensation,on 8/4/19 and on "08/09/19 they refused, saying the problem with the electric parking brake had been "repaired". Obviously not true. The brake problem has not been repaired and all these cars should be recalled. I'm sure they did not bother to look into the problem at all. The following is their reply: "08/09/2019" "Dear John Thank you for the reply. We have received the requested information and after further review of the diagnosis from Honda Cleveland the vehicle was repaired. We have looked into your request for compensation and we regret to inform you that American Honda Motor Co., Inc will not be in the position to provide the compensation requested. Kind regards, Honda Automobile Customer Service
Those wheels aren't bad at all. But otherwise I still prefer the Ioniq. 47 highway is actually a little pathetic in comparison to what the Ioniq brings. This is a result of drag coefficient (which I don't think was stated) and CVT drivetrain losses. DCT's are more efficient, especially at highway speeds. That's not even to mention the difference in feel between a cvt and dct. The interior is a bit nicer in the Insight.
The difference is mpg is also due in part to differences in how Honda's hybrid system operates. Hyundai's is a more efficient system but Honda stuck with theirs because it's proven to be reliable for them. The main difference is the "CVT" you mentioned. Honda calls the car's transmission an e-CVT but it seems that's mainly in an effort to use a term that's familiar to most people. As Raiti stated though, the car doesn't have a transmission, it's direct drive. Which is more reliable than an actual CVT but gets worse milage at high speeds. But avoiding an actual CVT is always a plus in my book lol.
Hybrid technology is def improving but its def odd that Subaru still have little success with hybrid technology. The Crosstrek did have a hybrid model but it was too heavy and the battery pack comprimised the cargo space.
$29K and no lumbar and no home link. Don't nickel and dime us on the spare wheel, at least give us a donut wheel. The paddle style is great , but one of those paddles should be on demand full on braking similar to the volt. You don't need two separate paddles. Other than that, love the styling for a hybrid and to break the 50mpg marker is great.
I hear you about the steering wheel, but what about the active safety systems such as automatic emergency braking, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic warning, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist and so on. And then there’s adaptive cruise control. You didn’t talk about any of these. Does the Honda have any? Are all systems equal or are some better than others?
@@Sullywins Thanks, but are they any good. Nobody seems to do comparative reviews of these features that are more important than the comfort of arm rests.
It's 1.5 seconds faster to 60 than a Prius and a Corolla hybrid too! Driving Dynamics of a Honda, good tech, good room, best and I mean the best looks, excellent pricing, latest safety features. Why even argue at this point? I like the way the world is shifting to hybrid cars. It's not so different from petrol cars in that you don't need charging, and now they look even better, are faster and more responsive, still not expensive, and have fuel economy breaking records.
I have the hybrid 2019 white and white interior with 20 inch rims right now I’m getting 41 miles per gallon only drive 60 mph on a 45 mile drive i use 25 gas 20 electric
Some hybrids don’t make financial sense if you do the math . Cost of the car , depreciation compare to a slightly used car that is thousands cheaper will save you more money . If you’re buying hybrid to be green and care less about money, than I can understand
I own both 2018 Prius and my wife has the Honda Insight i can say the Prius gets over 55 miles without trying and is quiet hell i usally get 60 mpg on the highways is very common ,the Honda gets 47 to 55 mpg and you have to watch it and is very loud going up hill if i have to pick which one i like the most it has to be the Prius it may look weird but dam those MPG and its quiet.
Richard I get 55 US mpg (65 Imp mpg) in the city on my new Insight Touring in ECO mode. My last fill up after 800 kilometers I put in 32 liters which came up to 60.5 US mpg and 71 Imp mpg. I'm easy on the gas pedal so I don't get the loud noise going up a hill. Like most drivers your too hard on the exceleration.
What hybrid used ( i can not afford new) would you buy? Canada. It seems hp is low in Corolla, Ioniq. Higher on 300h Lexus. Thanks for a few suggestions
My 2002 (first generation) Prius, while much less reliable than later generations, needed its first actual repair (replacement of the inverter coolant pump) last year at about 198,000 miles. Other than that it has only needed tires, wiper blades, a windshield, a couple 12V aux batteries, and routine maintenance. I will replace the brakes this year - after all, it has been over 200K miles. In contrast, Honda has struggled with hybrid system reliability for a very long time... I wonder if they have it figured out yet.
flagmichael It has an 8 year 150000 mile warranty on the hybrid components. In the past I've owned a couple Civics with over 200k with no breakdowns whatsoever with just regular maintenance. I've had my new Insight for almost a year now & I'm not concerned about long term reliability at all. I'm not a Toyota basher by any stretch as my next vehicle in a few years will probably be a Rav4 hybrid or Rav4 plug-in hybrid if that is available by then.
What I dislike (pet peeve) the most on cars/suvs is the fake chrome dual exhaust pipes that aren't even connected to the exhaust at all. Most manufacturers are guilty of this & even Honda also I believe. The Insight isn't guilty of this though.
This car is seriously underrated. Getting the same gas mileage as the Prius without looking like a massive dork.
Mar Blox worse

Hey nice video!!! Love the new insight! Btw, are u going to do the Acura tlx vs Honda Accord video?
What is the PCD size or wheel bolt pattern size and wheel's offset?
This or the all new Corolla hybrid?
Insight looks much better in my opinion
Corolla why choose Honda
Ive driven both cars. Personally the insight beats it hands down. The Corolla is too plain too simple.
If you do a lot of highway driving then you could go for the Corolla but if most of your driving is in the city then the Insight is hands down the better car for you & it's way more comfortable (I know I've owned one since last July)
Phil Chao LOL no danger of that I'm a ladies man ..... sorry
Thanks for the video, question will a set of golf clubs fit into the trunk. 👍
You are so very welcome! Yes they will!
Honda Malaysia doesn't do what you guys did as below when my Honda Insight 2012 had the exact problem.
I’m with you on wishing they thought out the tech stuff more. The back should have USB’s for sure and the random pad in the front should’ve been a charge pad. Not just a rubber mat area. Missed opportunity!
Amazing stuff from an amazing channel!! Thanks guys much love!! Happy new year and a happy new decade!!! New year new you!! ❤️❤️🔥🔥😍😍💦💦
Harry that is super wonderful of you to say!
The rear signal lights can be the deal-breaker. The rear looks much better without them rear signals.
I love your review's way for this vehicle 👍🏻
Thanks that really means a lot!
@@RaitisRides you're welcome sir
Great review!
I'm curious to know how "fun," you think the drive is when using the paddles?
They seem like something that would add to the drive experience in a good way, but I'm curious to know if your experience lined up with my assumption.
Curious to know your thoughts, quality video!
Thanks for reaching out George! I think in the right environment they are fun, but I wonder if in a year they would still be as much fun? I know from driving manual I am always having fun no matter how long it has been. It is one hell of a top performer with the use of the paddles! I hope tat helps!
@@RaitisRides cheers!
That’s not what the paddles are for. They’re to change the intensity of brake regen
Why are the exhaust tips hidden on so many cars?
Because most of the time it isn't emitting any exhaust ....... it's a HYBRID!!!
The most speedbumps in a road test EVER lol.
At what speed does the gas engine kicks in?
Truthfully, the wheels on the Insight are muchhhhh better compared to other hybrids. I feel like Toyota and Kia/Hyundai pick the ugliest rims for their hybrids. Also, the end of the Insight is beautiful. I think the Accord looks fine, but it could look nice on the Civic too.
Thanks for sharing your great input Alex!
The following is their reply:
"08/09/2019"
"Dear John
Thank you for the reply.
We have received the requested information and after further review of the diagnosis from Honda Cleveland the vehicle was repaired. We have looked into your request for compensation and we regret to inform you that American Honda Motor Co., Inc will not be in the position to provide the compensation requested.
Kind regards,
Honda Automobile Customer Service
You gonna do the 2020?
I like the wheels. Don't understand what's wrong with them
Those wheels aren't bad at all.
Does anyone elses insight hood shake in the wind on the highway?
Yes. My friend pointed that out for me while driving around 80-90mph one day.
My Insight doesn't shake at all on the highway...... steady & road hugging.
It has all of those except Blind Spot warning, which is rather an odd feature to omit.
@@Sullywins Thanks, but are they any good. Nobody seems to do comparative reviews of these features that are more important than the comfort of arm rests.
Sir Gregory Probably about as good as Toyota safetysense, which itself is good.
@@rajkirannatarajan9276 Thanks
If you have not done so already, please review the Hyundai Accent. I think it is a great little car for the money.
Thanks for sharing your input and perspective! I really appreciate you watching!
I have the hybrid 2019 white and white interior with 20 inch rims right now I’m getting 41 miles per gallon only drive 60 mph on a 45 mile drive i use 25 gas 20 electric
Thank u for that correction. Yessir
Some hybrids don’t make financial sense if you do the math . Cost of the car , depreciation compare to a slightly used car that is thousands cheaper will save you more money . If you’re buying hybrid to be green and care less about money, than I can understand
How is the insight on Gas per gallon?
About 55 MPGs
Great Video! Have a good one
I'll take this over a Prius ANYDAY.
No way
@@charlesdavis3876 i actually have many phone pics i can show you :)
I'm really not too surprised by that.
Thanks for your review of this car . Considering it . Wish there was a hybrid or long range Ridgeline.
I can totally understand where you are coming from Hugh.
I test drove Insight this weekend, what a beauty! Love the Sport mode in this Hybrid... LOL
:)
Thanks for sharing about your experience!
11 months since I bought my new Insight & I've never had it in Sport Mode...... that's NOT why I bought a hybrid. LOL
What hybrid used ( i can not afford new) would you buy? Canada. It seems hp is low in Corolla, Ioniq. Higher on 300h Lexus. Thanks for a few suggestions
I would go Corolla.
I love it in white!
The white is an amazing colour for the Insight, mine is red :(
I love the Insight. I believe it's a rival to the Toyota Avalon which is luxury 45-47mpg
How much
$30k
I wondering if this car can handle 200,000 miles, like Prius does easily
Cool video dude...
Thanks for letting me share it with you Fernando.
MR. SWAGGY JAY I AGREE WITH U 100% VERY GOOD CARS. HAVE A NICE DAY.
why does it say average 27 miles mpg?
Good question
cool car with nice materials in the interior. but i still prefer the ioniq over this :)
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this one!
I want this drivetrain in my gen 1 insight.
Great video but the sport mode does not affect the steering. Your fuel economy wasn’t very good either
If you buy it for the sport mode then you shouldn't buy a hybrid
HenryHonda Agreed
The only thing I’m not digging with the new Honda’s is that non functional intake grill on the front on both sides. Otherwise a good looking car.
What I dislike (pet peeve) the most on cars/suvs is the fake chrome dual exhaust pipes that aren't even connected to the exhaust at all. Most manufacturers are guilty of this & even Honda also I believe. The Insight isn't guilty of this though.
Have you reviewed a Tesla 3 yet?
This is what the Civic should have looked like...
I appreciate you sharing your perspective and input! Thanks for watching!
Leg space head room are not enough for rear passangers
Thanks for sharing your input and perspective! I really appreciate you watching!
I like the wheels a lot!
I am so glad that I could share this with you!
