Bereavement. Homesickness. A first kiss. Experiences like these transcend our rational understanding of the world. In such moments, we need poetry.
That's why we're excited to have paired contemporary and classical poems with award-winning animators to help us all better understand the most inexplicable parts of life.
Today, we published six poems in our new series "There's a Poem for That". We hope you love these poems as much as we do! Check out the whole series here:bit.ly/TEDEdTheresAPoemForThat
Let us know in the comments which poems you'd love to see animated as part of this series.

But I realise that life is so precious and too be giving such a special gift we must try and live it to the full. We must realise that time is the most precious thing we have in our lives and we must try and make the most of it while we are here. One day we will all move on to the next life but we must live this one first. Everything we do in life eg: keeping fit, eating healthy, earning money ,falling in love etc is too make us happy 😊 it's the only thing we need in life, happiness is everything 💪😊. Somewhere in the middle, I started crying. I wasn't even watching anymore, I can't even tell if I was still listening. I knew I had to pause but the words just kept coming and I couldn't stop them as I couldn't stop crying. This poem spoke to me. This poem took my head in its hands, looked me in the eye, and spoke to me. It told me things I didn't want to hear, but it told me the things I needed to hear. The experience of listening to this was, for a lack of a better word, beautiful. It felt as if my past was being read to me and my future was being opened to me. I haven't felt this raw in a while. Thank you.

“The most healing thing we can do is remind ourselves over and over and over, other people feel this too.”
I started crying at that sentence. As someone who has suffered from an eating disorder for 4 years. This reminder is the one thing that kept me going. Other people have been there. Those people have thought the same way I have. Those people have suffered like me if not more. But somehow, they manage to wake up each day knowing that that same voice will echo through their minds that they aren’t good enough. They still break through to all. And I finally did too. And to anyone suffering from such mental illnesses, just know that you are never alone. Shout it to yourself to get out of bed if you have to. Trust me. Life is not worth counting the smallest crumb you put in your mouth. Life in not worth thinking about something you might be even able to fix or something which is not your fault. Life is not worth shedding tears each day and hurting your own self. Life is not worth knowing what happiness is and depriving yourself of it. Trust me. Life is worth living through the darkest night just to see the sun rise the next morning. Life is worth living in the moment. Life is worth being there. For you. For others. Life is worth the fight. Hold on.

I often think of poetry of the rhyming kinda cheery rhyming stories, but Poetry is more than that. Poetry can be a way to escape, a way to Express something, or a way to get something off your chest. The world isn't a happy, utopian place and there is so much to support that. We all want to escape from the dark that is reality but sometimes we dont know how. Dreaming of change is a step, but keeping it a dream is a mistake. So thank you 'Ted-poetry' and the person who wrote this poem for waking me up more to reality. Thank you, for showing me how powerful poems and words can be

i've read dozens of poems. i've participated in events where people read each other words woven from the deepest sentiments lodged within their hearts. i've woven tapestries of words over the years expressing the pain and joy this world conveys to me. and each poem is beautiful. but some poems carry a power i'll never find the words to describe. some writers put so much of their soul into the sentences that reading each phrase feels like trudging through a blizzard on the top of mount everest. it carries this raw emotion that only some poems have the heart to express. and this is one of those poems. this poem holds a storm in its letters. very well done.

That has to be the most beautiful poem I've ever read/listened to. Such passion, power, emotion with no frivolous attempt at something unauthentic and narcissistic. I find modern poems particularly true and simple, all the while way more powerful than a poem full of devices and words that are hard to understand for a common reader. This is what poetry was intended for, it is a lyric testimony. Too many have forgotten that, but we're getting back to it, and it's beautiful

There is just something about a poet reading their own poems.

Ha, you almost made me cry
You actually made me sob uncontrolably (iternally)
Edit: listening to this poem again in 2020, it made me cry on the outside this time.
This poem is so powerful, and with the current conditions of how i’m living right now, it is also so relatable.

I strum my guitar along with the poem, chords are | Dm | Dm | C | Am | repeated, and then certain parts changes to | Dm | F | C | Am | (like chorus, when she refers to Tyler Clementi). The strum pattern comes from the beat of the poetry, easy to find. It seems to fit the vibe imho, but ymmv. Now if I could add in some beats, it'd make a nice chill track....

I'm tearing up, and at a loss for words here, so I'll just say "thank you", and live. Thank you! :)
