#DarkSouls3 #AbyssWatchers #Reaction
I feel like this is just such a perfect song for the boss itself. One of like the big main bosses yet still feels more like you are just trying to save the abyss watchers rather than actually beating them. Corrupted by the abyss they are just forced to fight each other over and over again as they keep resurrecting, dying to one of their own and repeating in an infinite loop until you finally come and end all of their misery for good.
It's just such a sad thing.
The most poetically sad detail about this is that even in a ravenous mindless state, they're still inherently loyal to their duties and the oaths they swore.
In constant dying and reincarnating...they're killing eachother because they themselves are corrupted by the abyss.
Just like recursion
Yes. Exactly. I always am almost pushed to tears listening to this song. It just feels so heavy and sad. To this day I’m amazed that they composed something like this.
Kitamura-san showing her skill. Not the usual large choir epic themes
wait untill he hear main menu theme, yuka insane skill
@@siragito405 True, the main menu has no right hitting that hard
I always thought Kitamura was better at these more quiet and graceful themes than ones with large choir.
@@vanjaarsic1616 she probably is, for example the epilogue, man that shit makes me cry
@@thenamelessking375 Yes and Ancestor Spirit is one of examples
If you enjoyed this piece, you will adore the Twin Princes. Their story to me is one of the most sorrowful tales across the souls mythology.
Yeeesss Ive been waiting for this since the first Dark Souls react.
Even though it's such an early Boss and probably one of the easiest, nothing beats the atmosphere and pure envoirmental tragic storytelling it gives you.
These guys are the best example of how Dark Souls tells it's story, as soon as you enter the Bossroom your mood and emotions instantly switch due to the pure despair you're seeing and at least for me it gave me this feeling of "I have to do this, I don't know why but I have to free them from whatever it is they need freeing of".
It's a super tragic Boss and the Soundtrack just really takes that to a whole new level.
One of the easiest once you figure it out*
Every boss ever: its pretty easy once you figure it out
You know who else does that?
Twin Princes
he is fairly hard if you attempt him at 30-35 max
My fav boss period!!!!!!!
Probably one of my favourite themes in the souls series along with midir and gael, the fact that this theme manages to tell so much of the abyss watchers story without any actual words is really impressive
I'm a composer myself. I agree with you it's very dark it it's meant to be. These men are fighting the abyss and now each other
Now it's time, Ds3 servers are online again, we're waiting for so long for the playthrough
Yeah
such a somber tone for a group of knights endless fighting each other trying to defeat the abyss within.
Abyss watchers are amazing but the twin princes and the dragonslayer armors themes are pure art.
very true
Right, I love the Abyss watchers but honestly I feel insulted Twin Princes got a 19% in votes 😭 it’s such a beautiful track just like Abyss Watchers
Every ost in ds3 is pure art
To this day I am still heavily biased towards Dragonslayer Armour. Its such a perfect OST for a tragic hero theme. and remains one of my fav OSts. The only thing to criticise about it is earrape phase 2 and phase 1 is too short ;(
@@nightmareking8425 facts
I’m not sure how you feel about fan remixes but if you liked the abyss watchers theme I highly highly recommend Alex Roe’s remix of it called All For One
He manages not only to keep it a banger, but to increase the emotions in the song
For me his version is even better than the original. Which is an insane bar to cross!
Where can I listen to this?
@@theastronaut6786 UA-cam
@@theastronaut6786 right on UA-cam, Alex has a channel for everything he does
I have heard many positive opinions about this piece. They break repeating patterns. Music doesn't have to be uplifting in a fight. It can be depressing, almost like a funeral procession.
Dark Souls III is the saddest part of the trilogy. Summarizes the death of fire, the death of the sun. Death to all and everyone who fear the dark. Humans having fun btw ^^
I played so much ds3 that every time I get to the battle against this boss it makes me want to cry listening to this
i really love abyss watchers
Me toooooo!!!!😭
I literally extend that fight. Breathtaking.
Can't wait to see your DS3 playthrough someday, I bet it'll be great!
Tomorrow at 1PM EST
@@AtlasBenighted christmas came early this year!
Knowing the Abyss Watcher lore and why this song is written in such a tragic and somber tone amps the experience of the boss fight up to 11. To top it off, the second phase of the Abyss Watchers boss is characterized by a single enemy that makes very slow but wide, sweeping acrobatic motions, where the movements are heavily outlined by a flaming blade. There is an almost operatic art to even the combat its self, as if its something out of a ballet or other theatrical performance. The song really matches the feeling of fluidity and tragedy, but without ever letting up on that ever important tension that makes you feel like you can't afford to make a single mistake.
+1 to recommending checking out All for One, the remix. That one mixes in a very special musical easter egg from Dark Souls 1, just in case the storytelling behind the Abyss Waters OST wasn't enough.
I do love how a pretty fast paced boss fight has a very subdued and morose theme. It's a great contrast.
Also, do Sister Friede next! It's my favourite fight in the trilogy, and the theme is brilliant
BRO DEFINITELY PLAY DARK SOULS 3 I FREAKING LOVED YOUR DS1 & 2 PLAYTHROUGH!!!!
also its been a year sooo.... please 😊?
And the servers are back! There's no better moment now.
Don't know if he will after the frigid outskirts lol
@@bobbybiscuit9706 The horses broke him. Now he only listens.
Nvm he's doing it Monday lads
If you like this theme, I recommend listening to All For One. It's an another arrangement of this piece by Alex roe.
You can't feel the right emotions without hearing it into the battle and knowing the back story of Arotrias and why this mighty warriors are killing each others over and over !
Ds3 is so amazing, I hope you bring to the channel your playtrough
This is what it sounds like to know that the last bit of hope for salvation against the rise of darkness, is gone.
This song is fantastic, very fitting for the theme of the abyss watchers. I love it sm
Yes, indeed!
I don't have very good ear for game music, specially when I'm playing. But I remember Abyss Watchers was the best boss fight in the entire game, DLCs included. Not only in terms of dynamics and gameplay, but also in atmosphere and story. Your interpretation of the music is on point with what's going on when you find these tragic warriors. It's like fighting Eddy in Silent Hill 2, you don't want to, but they you don't have another option.
So glad you listened! I’m happy you liked it. It has to be in my top 5 favorite themes of the series🤘
If he ever responds to Maliketh's OST, I'll die happy.
Can't wait for you to experience this track *with context.* In the game it hits even harder.
One of the masterpiece from DS3. Always love to return listening to this after a while. And still got goosebump at some points. Amazing.
This part of the game was amazing, I died so many times as it was my first souls game. After dying so much I leveled up to 50 and even then, by just standing outside of the boss room/fog gate and hearing the abyss watchers fighting each other with the loud sounds of their great swords clashing terrified me. I knew I was likely to die. Eventually I beat the boss and the entire game. This was a great moment in my life.
Starscourge Radahn (Elden Ring) theme next?
It is said that a legendary Ashen One managed to perform the forbidden "Double Parry" while this song was playing
Amazing reaction as always my friend.
Thanks mate!
This music just makes me feel sad. I knew the instant the fight started i was fighting the last bits of Artoias. I always considered him a good guy. I didnt even want to fight him in DS1 and i surly didnt want to kill the last bits of him that were still left in the world. Its sad.
The abyss watchers are basically elite badasses that are also Artorias Fanboys. They dedicate their lives to fighting the abyss. Minor boss/lore spoilers but it's somewhat predictable if you are familiar with the other dark souls games. "When you gaze long into the abyss, the abyss gazes back into you," and just like Artorias, the Abyss Watchers themselves slowly become corrupted. You don't fully realize this until during the boss fight, you notice some of the abyss watchers have the tell-tale sign of glowing red eyes and the less-corrupted abyss watchers will try to kill it (in addition to you.) You are literally watching the boss kill themselves before you step in to deliver the final blow, and exterminate them for good. They weren't necessarily evil, but they were corrupted and aggressive and had to be stopped nonetheless. All of this slowly unfolds as the music begins swelling with dark, tragic tones that match the lore and the gameplay mechanics of the boss perfectly. The team at FromSoftware are really experts at blending every form of art, the music, the environments, the animations, asset design, the storytelling and lore, even gameplay mechanics are all intertwined together to form a cohesive and unified mood and narrative, it's an amazing way to experience Art.
one of my favorite soundtracks of dark souls franchise, its so good, especially when you fight him
I've always found this and pontiff sulyvhans themes to be the best of ds3
I asked about this months ago, so glad someone finally requested it! Thanks for all your awesome content and amazing work
They have the coolest mid fight cutscene imo
Omg I’m so happy you did this!! It’s one of the best in in ds3!!!!
I’ve been waiting for so long for you to listen to the abyss watchers!! I’m so excited that you finally didnit
That song abyss watchers, oceiros de consumed king , Yhorm , slave Knight Gael of my favorite songs in ds3
Reacting to Aldrich's ost would be amazing.
Great breakdown as always Atlas
One of my favorite OST in the whole series. Glad you liked it.
There is also the remix made by Alex Roe, its such a ggod remix that it literally sounds like its from the game. I once did a bit of a challenge with someone were I had them listen to the original tracks and Alex Roe's remixes, and had them guess which ones were the remixes, they got the more obvious ones right, but some they were stumped on since the remixes are so well made.
@@xanthiusdrake2775 Yeah i listened that already and really liked it but my favorite part of this music is the violin and that remix didn't have them that much. Also i love how the music is so tranquil and sad which fits perfectly to the beatiful violin and female voice. I love it so much that i think it's Yuka's best work.
that album cover for DS3 always went so hard, it's a shame they took it off of youtube
This is my favorite theme from the main game
My favourite track of DS3. Which is very strange with so many epic and nostalgic tracks. It just feels like, we lost a battle we really shouldn't have. That something truly good and noble died. And maybe we should've been there to help. It's foreboding loss to me. We lost this battle. And the whole war will be over soon as well. We just won't like the outcome.
i actually had time to listen to it again after a while and can now see why its held in high regards. Great OST
Love the Abyss Watchers theme so much! Could you please react to The Nameless King theme from DS3 ost?
Awesome! It’s one of the few songs where phase 2 actually slows down and gets tamer.
Also, when is DS3 playthrough happening btw?
I have a soft spot toward this sound track, for me it is a reminder that this is the last Dark Souls game of the series, the last journey. Damn I am getting emotional now time to replay DS3!
I been waiting for over a year for this 😭😭😭
What a nice reaction and break down of the track. Its one of my favorites as well the song and as the boss fight.
It would be amazing if you could play Dark Souls 3. I really enjoyed your other playthroughs a lot and especially the soundtrack reviews at the end.
Keep up the good work and have a nice day. :)
Thanks!
Can't wait for you to fight the Abyss Watchers with this sound track :D
Great reaction video as always.
I hope he gets the legion etiquette first and sees it before the watchers.
Can't wait to watch your ds3 playthrough!!
Nier-Kaine Salvation. Trust me you won’t regret it. Excellent reactions and breakdowns as always. Love your musical explanations on our favorite OSTs.
This track actually has really interesting lyrics. Something along the lines of that the Watchers feel like they were betrayed by the fire, and are saving you from the fallacy of the lie.
Those lyrics are actually fake. A mistransilation by someone thinking it was all in Latin, when in fact it is a made up fantasy dialogue, gibberish
@@dannyxigbar7484 To add to this, it was confirmed in tweets by the composers of DS3 themselves. Unfortunate that the lyrics are the way they are, but let's not pretend they mean anything.
The story behind the Abyss Watchers is sad too
I personally would’ve preferred the Twin Princes OST, I think it’s one of the more underrated tracks. Still hoping for devils never cry
DS3 playthrough wen ?
My personal favorite.
you must play dark souls 3 💗💗
Dark Souls 3 online features are back online 👁️👁️
This track is enough to make a grown man cry...
It's me, I'm the grown man.
I've always found that the song sounds sad almost. But this falls within one of my most favorite pieces.
The fact that this song is so "tame" it's because The Abyss Watchers are basically a lost cause. They fought to protect others from the corruption of the Abyss, but just like their former leader Artorias, they fell to the corruption as well, so you come into that battle to end their misery.
i recommend listening to Varg's theme from Thymesia game.
And from the dark they came , and found the lord souls in the flame
I am rather new to your channel, but I find your videos pretty entertaining and interesting.
I would also like to suggest a title: Hidden Truth, from the current Destiny 2 expansion
This particular title really stands out in all of Destiny 1 and 2's soundtracks imo
Pretty sure I read somewhere that Yuki Kitamura sings the lead in most of the pieces she makes. Cant quite remember.
"For the Dark Soul" - amazing song. you should do
Hey Atlas, I don't know if you've already done this one but you should do "For the Dark Soul" track! It's phenomal.
Agree, Fantastic song
Nobody knows about it cuz it ain’t in the game but he has covered the melody for it since it’s phase 3 gael
Next OST - Dancer of the Boreal Valley 💙❄️
Listening to this and fight is like joining a never-ending tragic ballad…
Maaan
We need your DS3 gameplay
The dark lord needs to return!
and the lords go withoun throne!
nice video, if u like yuka thing. try breakdown main menu theme, she is crazy
This one gives me eargasm.
The fact that you didn’t listen to Gherman’s theme and probably never will it’s really sad. I really been waiting for a couple years for that video, ever since you started doing this video reactions and breakdowns.
It's the final boss of reacts!
Getting Shepard's Tone vibes. It's constantly building but going nowhere.
Please do Astalgia of Phantasm next
I'm sure he knows that kitamura is not the only person who worked on all these soundtracks there are other people just as good as her
Please do Lorian and Lothric next, or Pontiff Sulyvahn. both masterpieces
This game is perfection, most importantly the bosses and ost are unmatched. Better than Elden Ring for me.
If you haven't already reached Lothric and Lorian yet, I recommend their theme next. Or maybe a later video talking about some of your favorite tracks of the Dark Souls trilogy?
I highly recommend you to react to the Dark Souls 3 main theme because is E P I C
Godfrey from elden ring
Super productive I can ignore my bothersome thoughts
How about starscourge radahn ost
Or how about crescent moon from gundam iron blooded orphans
We want twin princes ost
The main theme next please :)
You should check out the prey 2017 soundtrack
I would suggest One of the most underrated themes of Dark Souls 3, Nameless King theme, especially the 2nd phase. I love it
I love that theme, it's so menacing.
I always thought the bells were a reference to dark souls 1 because while your walking around the first areas in dark souls 1 you'll always hear a bell ringing randomly. This also would align with the fact that the abyss watchers have a connection to a dark souls 1 boss.
Someone told me that when you hear the bells is because a player rang it in it's own playthrough
@@AtlasBenighted yeah I'm pretty sure that's true cuz the bell doesn't seem to have a time or rhythm in which h it rings.
@@AtlasBenighted
I think that person was referring to the bell in dragon peak. I dont wanna spoil you tho so i wont tell you about it
When will you be playing Dark Souls 3?
waiting for your DS3 gameplay :D
I already started
LETS GO when you playing ds3 btw
DS3 had S-tier themes all the way through, just like Bloodborne.
I would of preferred twin prince’s but this one is good nonetheless and if you listen closely. The strings in the back round play a rhythm similar to that of a heartbeat. Which is fantastic because it gives off this feeling of life and desire. Even as they are now artorius inspired them so much that they dedicated. There entire life’s to fighting the abyss such a futile but endearing desire.
Please listen to Sister Friede ost, it's godlike
I prefer this to her usual... bombastic stuff.
Me too
