    The L1011 so.majestic and yet a beast. The start up of those 3 engines still give me chills! Flew with that aircraft from 1987 to 2000 from Atlanta, San Francisco and Los Angeles to Honolulu and kahalui Maui. Never been replaced and we miss ya!!

    Great to see this. When I used to travel long-haul I would always pick a flight that put me on a L-1011 over any other wide body. So comfortable and so advanced for their time.

    Lived in LA and would take a dead-head Delta L-1011 to San Diego late at night - 15 minute flight, all for $19 one way (which I could barely afford) just to fly on a plane my Dad was part of the original Lockheed team who designed, tested, built this beauty. He was an instrumentation engineer typically flying test flight in and out of Palmdale. It was his favorite time at Lockheed and he was proud of the work and L-1011.

    I watched a 1011 start up at my Airport's observaton deck. I could see vortices forming,and dancing around inside Engine #2's intake. So cool to watch

    I remember back in the 80s at LAX watching one of those put right up to the window at the gate, was awesome. Beautiful airplane.

    The good old days of L1011 quality and quantity. Now we're stuck in those uncomfortably tight narrow bodies (737, a320) ...flying nowadays is nothing near what it used to be!

    The L-1011 was an absolutely handsome aircraft. Much better looking than the goofy DC-10.
    Delta was smart to make this their default long haul jet.

    i used to fly these all the time from ATL-BOS and back in the 90s....some of them didn't even have overhead compartments over the center section....just the coffered ceiling.......those were the golden days of flying

    • @afridgetoofar1818
      @afridgetoofar1818 11 місяців тому

      I flew these between ATL-MCO several times in the early 90’s. Sometimes the flights were only half full and you’d have an entire center row to yourself.

    The livery is classic. Delta should have a retro livery on each series of aircraft in the fleet.

    In those days, they had locked their brains. They paid no heed to lockheed. God knows what they found great in those DC-10s. The tristars were far-better.

      The L-1011, while technologically advanced, was a failure. Over-engineered, maintenance hogs which earned the name “Tritanic.”

    What replaced the L-1011 for Delta was the Boeing 767-300ER, and 767-400ER.

    i always found this design to be flawed.. if that tail engine blows up..... ur tail is gone... hopefully its engineered not to blow the tail off.. but you cant taill me its not popssible for the engine to blow the tail off.... you just cant tell me that. even if its never happened.. its possible... much harder to blow a wing off than a tail section... flawed design thats why u dont see to many of them
