Not paying attention, I did US treble crochet, so got a much more open weave appropriate for a summer scarf in FL! Thank you..this is the easiest chevron pattern I've seen in 3 1/2 years of trying!

Hello! Does the rule of 18 + 6 chain guarantee that it will always end on a peak? When I tried doing it sometimes it ended on a peak and other times it didn't and it made it all wonky. I was just wondering if I was doing it wrong and if it indeed will end on a peak with the 18 + 6 method.

Thank you, I'm glad you find them helpful 😊 If you take a look at your chain stitches you will see that each chain has a little bump on the back - if you insert your hook underneath this bump (you will have the bump at the top of your hook, and two loops on the bottom) and work into the chain this way, it stops them stretching so much.

Well for adult blankets I've made I chain a random amount usually around 350-400 and I wrap the chain around myself and imagine that I've already crocheted the blanket and once you have a big enough chain ad a couple of chains of you need to so it works with the pattern. Hope this helps!

This is a really difficult question to answer as it would depend on what yarn you use, your hook size and your tension, keep chaining until you get to the width that you want :)

crochet two single crochet into each double crochet "gap" and chain three "gap". That would create a very nice base for the border. You could even do three single crochet into each gap. Hope that helps! :)
This blanket is so gorgeous and I definitely have to try it. Could you tell me, if I want to make a blanket any size, what is the number of multiples I go up in? I am on my third attempt. I am doing multiples of 18 adding 6. First attempt was 216 + 6. Then 360 + 6 both times was 3 chains short. Then 396 + 6 and I have ended up 10 chains short. Not sure what is going wrong.
I had a similar problem. However I don’t remember how many short I was. I fudged it. Thankfully I tend to leave a fairly long starting tail, so I chained however many more I needed from my tail to create the right number. However, in saying this, I’m sure the original mistake will show up somewhere in the process, and something else will be wrong as a result. Good luck.

love the pattern works well with a super chunky yarn and 8mm crochet hook too! just wondering if there is any way of straightening the egdes... like you've done on the chevron one? :-/
Hi I'd like to do the Chevron blanket but in half trebles (UK) so it's less dense and grows quicker. Do I need to adjust the no. of stitches in the starting chain or the no. of stitches in the pattern repeat please? many thanks
For half trebles I would add one more to the starting chain, and then work into the third chain from the hook. You will also need to chain two at the beginning of each row, which will count as a stitch 😊
Nichole Delarosa that really depends on the individual! It can be made however big or small you want it. Just use the initial chain length as your guide x
Louise Taylor Hello, I'm sorry I can really give advice on how much yarn you will need as each case is different, it depends how big you want your blanket. On the label of your yarn, it should tell you how much area the yarn covered and you can work it out from there x
I'm still having trouble with the ends. Am I supposed to make 3 dc, chain 3, make 3 dc in the last stitch, chain 5, turn, or is it supposed to be 3 dc, chain 5 in the last stitch and turn? I'm new at crochet, and even though I've looked at the tutorial numerous times and read the instructions, I'm still confused because the ends do not look identical. Please advise, and thank you in advance for your cooperation.
+Lisa B multiplies of 18 means multiply 18 by another number plus six additional stitches to get the width needed...in her example she used 42 to make the swatch (18x2, then added 6)... for something bigger you could go 18x10 for 180, plus 6.... but allow for the fact that the zig zag pattern will eat some length of your chain...for example you chain 186 stitches and its 20" ... When you stitch the pattern it'll be shorter because it will no longer be in a straight line, but zig zag...hope this helps :)
When your making your chain do you recommend doing a tight chain or loose chain? Every time that I try to do this my Chain doesn't look right when I start doing my clusters
I messed up somewhere... I definitely did 7x18 +6 for my chain... and I was consistent through the first row... but somehow I ended with 3 chains less than you.... will it work if don't end on a peak??
It does need to end on a peak I am afraid - if you pop over and have a look at the blog post here: bellacococrochet.com/granny-ripple-blanket/ there is a helpful diagram labelling the stitches. I would double check your work against this to hopefully find out where you've gone wrong. You can always try making a small practise piece to begin with 😊

If you don’t want any holes I’d look at making a chevron blanket that uses double crochet stitches (US single crochets) instead of granny stitch. I have a tutorial for one here: ua-cam.com/video/NS3ydo_pcrs/v-deo.html 😊 You can also work this pattern with trebles (US doubles), but you’ll need to adjust the turning chain.
At the end of each row, you act like it's a peak & do 2 sets of 3 with 3 ch in between? I'm only on the 4th row, but it seems like my ends are getting longer & not wider as the middle of the blanket is... any ideas? Or does it just seem that way early on? Thanks, Heather

are you ensuring that you are only doing one cluster when you start your row? its east to think you are doing a 'peak' and add another cluster which them makes your row longer each time x
I am also having the same problem as FayAndLD, my edges keep getting wider. What am I doing wrong? Does your blanket also get wider and wider and it grows?

yeah, i just frogged mine back. i was so mad because it took me 3 hours just to get 4 rows -_- but ive found another tutorial that only requires you to dc in the last stitch and then chain 3 and it was much more helpful! :)

hi there. the granny ripple video is very thorough, but I am having problems with the end of the third row. after the last third cluster of 3 trebles, how do you finish this row and continue with the 4th. thank you.

I’m writing this so other viewers can find the answer. To end the 3rd row, you do a dc in the 3rd chain on the end. Not into the 4th chain.

Hi I'd like to do the Chevron blanket but in half trebles (UK) so it's less dense and grows quicker. Do I need to adjust the no. of stitches in the starting chain or the no. of stitches in the pattern repeat please? many thanks
For half trebles I would add one more to the starting chain, and then work into the third chain from the hook. You will also need to chain two at the beginning of each row, which will count as a stitch 😊

Nichole Delarosa that really depends on the individual! It can be made however big or small you want it. Just use the initial chain length as your guide x

Louise Taylor Hello, I'm sorry I can really give advice on how much yarn you will need as each case is different, it depends how big you want your blanket. On the label of your yarn, it should tell you how much area the yarn covered and you can work it out from there x

I'm still having trouble with the ends. Am I supposed to make 3 dc, chain 3, make 3 dc in the last stitch, chain 5, turn, or is it supposed to be 3 dc, chain 5 in the last stitch and turn? I'm new at crochet, and even though I've looked at the tutorial numerous times and read the instructions, I'm still confused because the ends do not look identical. Please advise, and thank you in advance for your cooperation.

I'd love an explanation of what multiples of 18 plus 6 means
+Lisa B multiplies of 18 means multiply 18 by another number plus six additional stitches to get the width needed...in her example she used 42 to make the swatch (18x2, then added 6)... for something bigger you could go 18x10 for 180, plus 6.... but allow for the fact that the zig zag pattern will eat some length of your chain...for example you chain 186 stitches and its 20" ... When you stitch the pattern it'll be shorter because it will no longer be in a straight line, but zig zag...hope this helps :)
When your making your chain do you recommend doing a tight chain or loose chain? Every time that I try to do this my Chain doesn't look right when I start doing my clusters

I messed up somewhere... I definitely did 7x18 +6 for my chain... and I was consistent through the first row... but somehow I ended with 3 chains less than you.... will it work if don't end on a peak??
It does need to end on a peak I am afraid - if you pop over and have a look at the blog post here: bellacococrochet.com/granny-ripple-blanket/ there is a helpful diagram labelling the stitches. I would double check your work against this to hopefully find out where you've gone wrong. You can always try making a small practise piece to begin with 😊
Hi Bella, I worked multiples of 18 plus 6 and ended up 3 chains short at the end. Do I need to unravel and add 3 more chains. I did a total of 366 chains. Please help a quick response would be greatly appreciated.

If you don’t want any holes I’d look at making a chevron blanket that uses double crochet stitches (US single crochets) instead of granny stitch. I have a tutorial for one here: ua-cam.com/video/NS3ydo_pcrs/v-deo.html 😊 You can also work this pattern with trebles (US doubles), but you’ll need to adjust the turning chain.
I'm want to use this for a blanket for a 5 year old and I am wondering how to figure out how long I need to make my foundation chain?
At the end of each row, you act like it's a peak & do 2 sets of 3 with 3 ch in between? I'm only on the 4th row, but it seems like my ends are getting longer & not wider as the middle of the blanket is... any ideas? Or does it just seem that way early on?

are you ensuring that you are only doing one cluster when you start your row? its east to think you are doing a 'peak' and add another cluster which them makes your row longer each time x
I am also having the same problem as FayAndLD, my edges keep getting wider. What am I doing wrong? Does your blanket also get wider and wider and it grows?
I noticed the same thing. once I got the the forth row I had to stop at the peak and only put one cluster on three.
+Victoria Retallack yeah! mine too. I really wish she would have actually done 2 extra rows of the new colour just to see how it is supposed to look. do you still do the 3 ch 3 and another 3 in the chain 5 space? if that makes sense. :(
It does. Sadly I pulled my work out cause I couldn't get it to work right. I was a little annoyed that I couldn't get it to work.
yeah, i just frogged mine back. i was so mad because it took me 3 hours just to get 4 rows -_- but ive found another tutorial that only requires you to dc in the last stitch and then chain 3 and it was much more helpful! :)
