I liked this video! Thanks for the breakdown! Is the M3S better than the RS3 Mini in your opinion? I'm looking to get a gimbal for a full frame A7SIII / Lumix S5II size full frame with at least some flexibility in what lenses I could use. Thanks!
@@OttoJulian_Cool, very helpful! I was thinking the RS3 mini was the clear choice until I started looking into Zhiyun products and saw they were a little cheaper and I started questioning. But now I think I'll stick with DJI.
Otto, thank you for the video. Im looking to upgrade to the Canon R6 MKII or the Sony A7IV with the 24-70 RF or GM lens. will this gimbal support that weight or will I need to get a different lens? It's mostly outdoor videos that i'm going to be doing? TIA
Hi! This gimbal will not support heavier lenses as I explained in the video, a 24-70mm is quite heavy for this. I would advice to get the Weebill 3S (I made a video review after this Crane M3S). The DJI lineup is more specific regarding their supported weight and I like the RS3 Mini quite a bit too (Video review on my channel as well)
Dude I'm really stuck between weebill 3s and crane m3s. Since I'm low un budget and I also have a small camera (zve-10) and shoot with my ohone from time to time too, i wanted to buy the m3s, but most of my videos are vertical and they all say the m3s is not that good for using in vertical mode. However, It seems using the vertical mode on m3s is more convenient since it doesn't need rebalancing. Can you help me make my mind please? (Another question, if I buy the standard version of the m3s, can i add a normal phone mount to it? Or it has to be it's own mount?
Honestly I would prefer the M3S over the weebill for budget, size and lower weight. You can use any phone mount, the advantage of using theirs is that it adds some good weight to the phone in general and it seems to work better with the added weight
thank you for the review with the a7iv and 85mm. I agree with you that the dial would be more useful for aperture or even digital "Clear Image" zoom, but have you tested the dial for these with or without cable?
Both gimbals should be fine for that setup. Not 100% sure about that lens fully extended on the M3S, but weight will not be a problem. RS3 Mini does have more features that I like but it’s bigger than the other one
Yes you can pull it out and reposition as you mention but that knob and me, we are getting divorced! DJI on the RS3 mini has a lever that is easy to use. I think this and other gimbals should look into that 😌
may I know did you activate IBIS on body and lense for the gimbal footage? and did you add post production stabilizer to further stabilize the footage? thanks in advance.
hi, I don't add post stabilization on my video reviews for obvious reasons, the lens doesn't have stabilization and the camera probably had IBIS on but honestly I'm not sure and Sony's in-body stabilization is not so good in videos to make a real difference.
@@OttoJulian_ thanks for the clarification. I currently looking for gimbal to shot product B roll & serve as the table tripod for YT Shorts. May I know if you have recommendation for these kind of usage? Body: A7iv Lens: SOny 35mm f1.8
My lens is 445g without the hood from square hood which is metal, do you think it will hold on that gimbal or will it be bouncy and make trouble for me? ( Oh and I have an xt5)
Thank you for the excellent reviews 😊. Your reviews are always quite informative and impartial !! * Just wanted to know if reverse charging is built in.
Hello Otto! This is the second video of yours that I've watched. Very informative! I was looking on your channel for how to move when using a gimbal, and I've not found one. If you've made one, I would really like to see it, as I've seen you just moving around normally, and I've seen conflicting videos on "ninja walking" versus "slow" or "heel-to-toe" or "normal" walking in order to get decent smooth video. If you don't have one, could you provide a UA-cam link to a video whom you feel is giving us the correct information? Thanks! - Brian.
Hi Brian. Thanks for your feedback. I do have a few videos where I explain how to move but I haven’t covered too much the walking aspect. You definitely don’t want to walk normal if you want the smoothest experience and in my experience I’ve found that a combination of what you mentioned with a lot of practice will get you what you want. Small or short steps is also better. I’ll try to explain all these in a soon to come video with tips and tricks for using a gimbal 🙂
I fitted the Manfrotto 323 rc2 plate, I remember having to drill/file out the slot in the Zhiyun base plate to accept the fixing bolt. It's for a Nikon Z30/DX 12-28 or some lighter primes. The Manfrotto QR plate/base moves the camera up about 20mm so the base of the camera body doesn't snag the side lever clamp the way Otto shows it in the video. If I had to do it again I'd probably get a second body just for the gimbal, using it with the Zhiyun or an Arca-Swiss-friendly plate, and keep the Manfrotto system for the tripod/monopod.
@@OttoJulian_ but all 3 listed as supported. I bought it cuz i had M3 for 1 job and it didn`t worked without cable and qr plate was pain to operate so i returned it.But i liked the size and build in light. And again same misadvertisement. Other than that it`s a great tiny gimbal which is barely enough to operate thick ass gh5ii with tiny almost pancake size 15mm 1.7 pana-leica. I have it only for 3 days and did two jobs already so first it was just a backup gimbal i was not really confident with, but 2nd job it was my main gimbal for cocktail hour and during the ceremony i actually turned into a singer camera+gimal +light . i just screwed it down to a tiny 5ft light stand and it was a gret All in one piece taking less space and much lower key solution than regular bulky tripod with camera and light on top of it.
@@Dimm168pin Did you try connecting the cable from the gimbal to the camera? Did you setup correctly the BT connection? I had to try like 2 or 3 times with my Sony A7III, with the A7IV it connected right away...
Sorry Otto, you seem like a nice guy, but this video gets a thumbs down from me. The title suggested a comparison with the DJI RS3 but there was none. Just another review of the M3S. Clickbait titles are very frustrating and given the high quality information in your videos, you don't need it.
My Versus videos are very clear on the title. They say “versus” or things like “comparing features”. This was clearly not a comparison and it’s not intended for clickbait as I don’t do that. Anyway, it’s fine, I guess one thumb down among so many viewers that found this and other videos useful is not going to desensitize me. I appreciate that you did not “troll” on your comment, but this is my thought: I can say “my Honda is better than my Nissan” and just talk about the Honda and not necessarily about the Nissan. Anyway, I didn’t suggest a comparison, you interpreted that way and I’m sorry about that
One last thing: thumbnails usually have the best description for my videos. The one for this video only shows M3S, no DJI anywhere. If it was a comparison the DJI logo would have been there as well as the gimbal since thumbnails are the first thing people look at. Take a Quick Look at my channel at you’ll understand what I’m saying.
Thank you for this review.
Does this gimbal have a face/object tracking function as the rs3mini ?
Thanks for your answer ?

most functions will work the same.
As usual a very good analysis.

isn't the knob at 2:41 spring-loaded like knobs on Ronins? You lift it up and reposition it. (Still a pain in butt sometimes but fixes the problem)
