We’re starting to get there. This has not been a minor touch up. It’s has been a complete overhaul. Overhaul may not even quite describe it, it’s been stripped down to the bones and completely rebuilt. Culturally it is heading in the right direction, I was scared for Billy’s job going into ucf and Tennessee, but the Tennessee loss on the road is where I knew we were going to be fine and Billy is the right guy for the job. Those guys fought their tails off when nobody gave them much of a chance heading into it. They are gritty and learned how to fight going into that one. There’s a bunch of good young players in that core and the potential is limitless. Billy had a great demeanor for the job, he doesn’t seem to get overwhelmed in the moment and knows that character matters more than a 40 time. He’s building a great culture. I’m not saying national championships every year, but he is a guy that will keep us competitive in every game. I think 10 wins and being in the playoff conversation is a fair goal heading into next year. I’m jacked about where the program is heading for the first time since the day before I heard the sad Will Grier news.
This is where I feel Scott Stricklin has failed us the most. Even after a decade of irrelevance, Florida is still a top 10 national brand. However, since Foleys departure. the UF brand has been little more than a shiny commodity the SEC uses for their own marketing purposes. While some of that has (and will) always happened, there was give and take under Foley. These days with SS who doesn't want to rock the boat, its all take. Not just this and last year, but basically since 2018, UF has had top 5 hardest schedule every year. The SEC has catered the Alabama, UGA, LSU, TAMU (and recently Tenn and Texas) with no consideration to UF. That is because UF has no advocate and no leadership at the conference level anymore. SS has ceded that to the like of Josh Brooks, Danny White, and Chris Del Conte. This, to me, is one of his largest failures and a massive impediment to success of Napier. While I have recanted my criticism and giving Billy time to cook. Scott still must go.....
@ I understand that!! We are all gators and we want the best it’s no wrong in that !!! Billy might not be delivering the way we are historically used to or want it to be but we gotta have faith in him and in the orange and blue!! 🐊🐊🐊
I think that Roberts kinda ran the show and that was a major reason Armstrong took the Houston job. There is no reason a good DC will abandon his defense that is now winning games for the team.
@@williamtackett-r1l I'm good with Roberts running the show. Armstrong was the Recruiter. That part had me concerned more than who will be play calling.
I understand the hype behind DJ but IMO his talents will be wasted in this lame offense. Billy won a few games to save his job but we are headed for more mediocrity next year. Even if he wins 7 games next year we will be stuck with this average program for the next few years and foreseeable future. Smdh…
I'm not at all a fan of Napier's offense and play calling either. For some reason DJ seems to love it tho. Why recruit all this speed at WR just to have 2 of them on the field, alongside 2 slow and average TEs...😕
@ I totally agree. To not run a single 4-5 wr set in modern day football is just insane to me and doesn’t really showcase his talents, but to each their own. And I’m glad he’s here and I hope this works out in the end, I’m just hesitant to say I think we will ever be a conference contender or CFP team with Billy 🫤
@@garystritt5750 yea, I am very impressed with the close to the season as well as salvaging a once dead recruiting class, but the jury is still out in my opinion. I believe spring ball will tell us alot
@@mikenicks7129 I hope I’m wrong and want nothing more than for this team to succeed, I just have my doubts based on how these first few years have gone and what we’ve seen

Amazing schedule and commentary 😃

That was a half apology 😂… I can’t wait for the portal episode !! 🐊
Because I don’t know if I can say I was wrong yet. It’s too early. We simply can’t know one way or another yet.

Great work Neil.
How do you feel about Roberts now being the Sole DC next season with Armstrong gone?

2.5 years of crap and then 3 wins in a row does not merit an apology.
True, but it should at least garner a cautiously optimistic outlook in the season to come.
@@ultragator724 Fair point.
Worst coaching record since the 1940s?!? Worse than Muschamp 2013? Losing 7 straight INCLUDING Georgia Southern?!?
covid saved FSU from back to back sub .500 losing seasons
