- Graeme O'Neil takes a look at the '90210' cast reaction to Shannen Doherty's passing, and the relationship she had with each, including Jason Priestley, Jennie Garth, Tori Spelling, Brian Austin Green, Ian Ziering, and Gabrielle Carteris.
I met her when I worked on the set of 90210 and was invited to her birthday party... The one the tabloids blew out of proportion. She wore an awesome black dress with combat boots... She was actually quite nice for inviting people that just work behind the scenes of the show... Oh, and she also made chocolate chip cookies for the crew, too...

Agreed at being so young when becoming a celeb. That's proven to be true for countless actors/actresses who were left without privacy from the media and fans in droves. Sad, and there was nothing she had control over getting which less than any of her own control over. ((Shannen))

Brenda and Dylan forever!! And I still can't believe Shannen is gone. She was one of a kind - a great talent and a wonderful person. She stood up for herself back in the day and got a reputation (unfairly). But she was honest, caring, and no-nonsense - and others were intimidated. Yet, she gave her all in every pursuit. What Tori and Brian wrote / said / feel is beautiful. That's legacy.
While their comments were very nice, I prefer Ian's silence. Frankly, most of the time they just sound like PR releases. It saddens me to see social media's cheapening of grief by demanding public postings. The Friends cast got blasted for not posting immediately after when Matthew Perry died and I found that to be sick. The joint post just to shut the fans up didn't feel as poignant as it would have if they had been allowed to comment in their own time. I don't know if Ian has posted since - if not, I hope he takes his time and tells his fans to F-off.

Shannen was a dear friend of mine. She was NOT a bitch. What happened was Brenda made her very famous at a young age. She didn’t go into acting to be a celebrity, it was her chosen career. She was always passionate, honest and direct, naturally in Hollywood that goes against the grain and causes ripples. So the falsification of things was she was a bitch and difficult. She was and has always been a woman in this world who just happened to become famous. I’ll miss my friend forever, but I’m grateful to have known her. She’s with her dad now, and I know that’s what she was mostly looking forward to in death ♥️

Sorry for your lose. She and 90210 were a big part of my childhood in the 90’s . My mother died of cancer and watching Shannon for years almost 10 years going through cancer and she just kept going and going and was always so positive and very enlightened and really had a true understanding of the meaning of life.
Even Graeme used the word "complex" when describing how costars and others were trying to navigate how to publicly react to Shannon's passing. She had a problem with just about everybody at some point in time. There's a reason why Aaron Spelling is said that she was a bad influence on Tori. She was fired from TWO shows where she was part of the main cast. She was toxic. Please don't make excuses for bad behavior.
I was so saddened to hear of her passing. Brenda and Dylan are my most favorite ones since watching 90210. I just love them both. You will not be forgotten but will be missed. You are now safe… your with GOD who loves us most. Rest In Heaven Shannen! 🤍🙏🏼🤍
Shannen was not a bitch. No girl is a bitch, we can have actions and attitudes portrying that behaviour at times as everyone can. She was real and genuine. Jennie and shannen were both aries fire signs and aries are not afraid to stand up for themselves. I love how Jason Priestley worded describing her as a force of nature.
Friendships are messy because we are learning, growing and evolving through our own experiences and backgrounds where the journeys collide. We find links and respect for differences and call each other out on where we need to step up. To do that without demolishing each other is difficult to navigate at times especially as they have said were feeling pitted against each other through comments or rumors.
I absolutely loved this show and I'm glad these ladies found some peace with eachother. Thank you to all this cast. I absolutely loved all of the characters.
One of my favorite episodes was the one when Brenda finds the journal in her room from the girl who previously grew up in her home and goes through her story from the 1960s with all of the cast members.Their characters even fit eachother in that time. 💜
My impression of Shannen going way back when 90210 was on television was that she seemed quite mean natured and cold, and it stuck. Something about her.

She felt things very deeply making her sensitive and making her read the room quickly as she was in tune. she got hurt because she wore her heart on her sleeve and reacted as she was treated. Men never look at the why of the reaction just the reaction. That doesn't make her cold. She wasn't mean, she was a girl trying to figure her spot in a new school that already had established friendships and cliques and lots of snobs whose parents paid their kids off whereas her parents wanted real relationships with their kids and set some values in them.
Isn’t it interesting that when women stand up for themselves and have strong opinions they’re labeled as a “bitch.” When men do it they’re praised and often rewarded for it. Can we please stop this double standard?

I have been thinking a lot about Brian. He was the closest to her. I know Tori and Ian were also close with her but Brian was there for her always.

I was in high school when the show 1st aired so I related to them a lot even though they were in 90210 LoL. The Brenda character was a pivotal role in the show's success, I personally loved to hate her but today I only love her. Our moment here is really brief and you left a lasting impression.

Brenda was so popular they made a Barbie doll of her back in 1991 or 1992 it was on the shelf at K Mart. I remember I wanted that Barbie doll but I never got it.

Tori is self absorbed, putting her private life out there on a silver platter that's no one else's business for whatever instant gratification she gets from perfect strangers stroking her ego. I think Tori has issues.

I wanted Brenda because she was my favorite but I never got the doll because my mom had too many kids 😂😂😆 she had 5 girls and one boy and I am the youngest of six kids. It was at Kmart.

As fans we should be thankful celebrities allow us to see a part of their lives offscreen. Celebrities are people just like us and deserve privacy, especially in times of grief. For all the so-called "fans" that are upset Ian hasn't posted anything yet, bugger off. We have NO RIGHT to demand celebrities make public statements. Let her family and friends process her passing in whatever way helps them through this extremely painful time. RIP Shannon. Say hi to Luke and Micheal (Landon) for us.

I did not realize until now just how much I loved Shannen Doherty. Beverly Hills 90210 was pivotal in my life even though some thought it was cheesy. The issues presented in the series were very relatable as they dealt with real-life issue I experienced as a teenager/young adult. I was just 19 years old when BH 90210 first aired on Oct. 04, 1990. I never missed an episode of it (and Melrose Place). BH 90210 (and cast) have a life-long fan. Shannen, you fought long and hard. Now, it's time for you to rest. I was diagnosed with breast cancer shortly after her first remission. Having been about her age and watched her since she was in little house on the prairie, I felt the deepest concern I’ve ever felt for a celebrity because she had been part of what my family watched since I was a kid and I just really could put myself in her shoes and feel for what she was going through. (Plus her character name in 90210!is actually my name, and I think at that age I maybe felt her character more than most!) I kept checking in to see what and how she was doing. It was truly heartbreaking when I learned that the cancer was back. I was so glad she had a husband to lean on. Later I guess that wasn’t the case. I don’t know what happened, but what horrible timing for a divorce. I just feel horrible that she had to deal with that at such a critical time. She really showed great bravery in the way she handled what she was going through. I really wish that things would have turned out differently for her. 😢

It must have been tiring going over stuff that happened 30+ years ago. I mean, Shannen, Jennie and Tori were all just teenage kids when the show started. Of course there were issues, I remember what it was like at high school. They worked together for awhile, I don't think that means they all needed to remain best friends.
It's pretty clear Gabrielle wasn't very close to Shannen, but seeing their age gap, I'm not surprised. Jason didn't seem to be all that close to Shannen either. They worked together, but that doesn't mean they had to be close.
Shannen was a strong, opinionated person. Even Holly Marie Combs had a fallout with her a few years back. She talked about it on a podcast. So even though they reconciled, Shannen wasn't always the easiest person to get along with at times. It's understandable.
I never really cared about the behind the scenes issues. Shannen was my favourite in 90210 and Charmed. Dying at 53 is far too young.

Wow. This is interesting with Shannen Doherty & whomever it is that is being interviewed.
Even my wife and I were doing it we grew up on 90210 that premiered when we were in our teens. And we quite often have discussions about when a celebrity passes away who that we know that knew them is going to speak up and it’s not even that we’re gonna judge them whether they do or not we’re curious to know who’s gonna say what they say, and when. But the really sad part is that for an individual to be feeling grief they have to make a comment about something. It’s like when people are grieving they have to shed tears. That’s not the case. Grief is different with everybody and there are stages that happen in different ways and I firmly, feel for me that even though I’m curious to know what other celebrities are gonna comment on a fellow celebrities death I also think anything of it when they don’t say anything for a certain period of time they have that right to process through the emotions before they put anything into I agree with you. It’s really sad that Tori felt like she had to put something there just so people knew that she was acknowledging Shannon’s death before actually making a full emotional post about it. I think that if the situation was reversed on those individuals that come down on celebrities for not saying something, and they were pressured to say something before they were ready they wouldn’t like it either, but unfortunately, we don’t really live in a world where many people put themselves in the other person shoes before they actanymore

A lot of people don't realize that she voiced Teresa Brisby (the oldest mouse child) in The Secret of NIMH in 1982. She was around 10 when she voiced that character.
I don’t fault Shannen’s costars for being frustrated, but was always on Shannen’s side, especially after Charmed since that situation seemed so much more shady and it was really Shannen’s show. But I do have a special appreciation and extra love for Brian, Ian, Holly, all the costars that were true friends and were supportive all the way. ❤❤
Me too. It was Jennie Garth and Alyssa Milano who got Shannen fired from the shows. Both are attention seeking turds, who were jealous of the attention Shannen got. A lot of the reasons both shows were so good, was because of the chemistry between the casts with the exception of Jennie Garth and Alyssa Milano. Tori was a door mat and would flip back in forth between Jennie and Shannen. Brenda and Dylan are back together and Kelly can't do a damn thing about it. LOL. Why do you think Jennie Garth and Alyssa weren't invited to the funeral?

R.I.P. Shannen. She was special on the show. Regarding people demanding a response from Ian and so on…It’s kind of 2 fold really. While they should be able to keep it private or post something when they are able or want to, this is the life they all chose and with that comes the whack jobs that worship people because they are on a TV show when in reality they are just people, just like everyone one of us. It’s unfortunate they are put on these pedestals.

Grandma, this is very good. I miss Shannon Doherty. I liked her on 90210 but I was a little older, so but wet when she hit charmed, she hit a smooth spot with me. I loved her on charmed. I thought that prove years were the best fruit the fruit years with Shannon Doherty, where the strongest I had to keep watching it to get dividing the new ride at the shit she left the shelf. She was not a bitch or fiesty guys she was real. I wish she would of talked more about when she got breast cancer. she had no medical insurance. This was what she said because her manager didnt have it for her. She ended up suing him. Than she had to wait for it to kick in and when u do that it spreads. Early detection u guys will save ur life. I herd her talk about all this on a podcast few years ago. I wish she would of talked about it allot more. educated us on implants and when u have them can u still find breast cancer and when u find a lump like she did do this and go here. Anyways i grew up watching her im her age and she's gone way to soon. I have made a mamagram app this month because of her so i definitely hope u all do also.
