Snakes are harmless, you can out run them. Besides, they eat rats! Perhaps if you can convince them to wear little bells around their neck so you could hear them approaching?
I know, eh? They were very scary to me, at first. They are still scary, but in a different way, more creepy scary! I am still spooked by them and yes, I keep my distance from them. 😊
