Hello, enjoy your videos. I work in a fleet shop for a national company. Have changed a few of them for sure. Have you notice what mileage that you have been changing them.
I've noticed that the hose going into the block has a small leak. Should I just replace the whole crankcase or just the hose? My oil pan is leaking also not too bad. Would the crankcase failing cause that?
If you have over 500 k miles than definitely replace your crank case vent housing and fitting in the block. If under you can do just that hose or spend just a bit extra and do the whole thing. Good maintenance to get done. It also won’t cause ur oil pan to leak. But might leak around your pan causing it to look like your pan is leaking.
Thanks for reaching out. Very well could be the breather gasket. Got to wash it off and check to be sure. Or..if you have over 200k miles you might as well replace it before it get full and throws a code.
I’m getting ready to buy one now I’ll be following your steps it’s my first time changing one thanks a lot from the video. There was a part of your video went silent was that a bolt and nut you use to unscrew it?
Thanks for watching and reaching out. Yes I used a regular bolt and double nut it to get the fitting out. Much easier and much cheaper than buying a large Allen socket to fit in there. All about saving money and working with what I have.

Hello mister. I have truck freightliner cascadia dd15. The truck have 715000 miles. I change crankcase breather. It was leaking. But smoke come out from only from breather ? Please and advise for me Thanks and advance
If the breather is slightly smoking it’s fine as the crank case is venting. If it’s heavy smoke then you have a compression problem and may need a Eng rebuild soon.
Thanks for reaching out. The force of the exhaust gas leaving the block causes the filter to spin than clean the slobber and send the remains to the pan. Only vapor should be leaving the filter, and if much oil comes out it’s time to change the housing.
Thanks for watching. You can expect by 500k Miles to replace this. Either by a check eng light or pushing oil. Makes since since there’s a lot of oil slobber that comes from the valve train down to this. Thanks for reaching out and stay safe out there.
I have a 2011 dd15 it has a metal pipe with a sensor. I went and got a replacement from Freightliner but it has a plastic pipe or tube. They are telling me it's the only one they carry for the dd15. It will not work with the metal tube on my engine the plastic tube doesn't come off. Any help or ideas on this ?? Thanks
Great question man. That is a problem with many older dd engines. I’ve also had that issue. I took the old one to the dealer and had them match it up with new style pieces that adapt to the new plastic lines. It was a pain. But best thing is to bring it in to a dealer and have them ask a tech if they need help because parts guys don’t always know it all. Good luck on the search and if you want to find out part numbers to help others that would be even better.
@@bustedknucklebydieseldr3228 thanks for the quick reply Ya I know it's not correct but parts guy said that's the new version I can't remember the term they used the super seaded part I think. @@MakeMoneyTrucking unfortunately it was an early model DD and the more years that pass the more parts are going to be hard to get. Great question and thanks for reaching out. Happy holidays by the way. If the sensor is not throwing any codes then go ahead and reuse the original one they rarely go out. The only problem we usually get is from the actual filter itself being clogged.

Appreciate you reaching out man and watching along. These separators expect about 500,000 miles. After that they’re pretty slobbered up and will start pushing oil. And while you’re there don’t forget to replace the rpm sensor because It will go out.
Great question. The ccv is used to take any excessive pressure out of the block and separate gas from the oil. The filter inside actually spins and throws the oil back inside to the pan and vents fumes to the outside. Once you start getting excessive oil out of the ccv vent it’s time to replace the filter housing. Hope that clears some things up.
