      I awlays thought it was something along these lines. As it goes in my head; necrons nearly end the old ones, one or two escape to the outer void, create the tryranids as a big F U to the necrons with their last breathe of life and energy to create.

      This is part of a real theory. Tyranids remember the dna they eat to use later. They are a biological database of life. The opposite of necrons and if you look at some old edition art there is a war in heaven tablet that shows creatures very similar to gaunts alongside eldar krork and necrontyr. When the old ones left they may have sent a super weapon into the distant void but when Dantioc blew up the beacon it drew them back

      If it's the old ones, I think it's more likely they're using the tyrannids as a means to sweep the galaxy clean of all their past creations like the Orks, elder, etc, building up an unimaginable amount of biomass in the process, then using them to destroy the necrons, and even the chaos gods. After that, they'll destroy the tyrannids and begin populating the galaxy with new creations.

    When the Milky Galaxy is suffering from bug infestation, someone must call the Necrons since the Necrons are perfect predator of Tyranids.

    • @TheLostPrimarch
      @TheLostPrimarch  8 днів тому +8

      Well yes, because Necrons don't really have any biomass, even if Tyranids win the fight they still are losers, and even if they can harvest the metal from their bodies, the problem is that Necrons use Gauss weapons that literally disintegrate anything they hit.

      @@TheLostPrimarchbreak down biomass at the atomic level so every fight is a net loss an the living metal isn't considered biomass just raw material so no matter what they do they lose and the shadow in the warp doesn't effect them because they don't use the warp and instead or psychic power they use ctan shards an the nids have no counter to ctans

    I would love that the Tyranids are actually a natural forming evolution and they are just the pinnacle of a species evolution stage, which is massive in a galaxy filled with species that are naturally forming into a psychic races.

  • @colinsmith1495
    @colinsmith1495 8 днів тому +14

    The bit about the Narwhal being a native space-faring species really doesn't solve anything, as the Tyranids would STILL need to find a way into space to get to them. The ONLY way I can see the Tyranid evolving without technological means (even bio-tech from the Norn Queens) is if one of the space-faring bioforms is actually the ORIGINAL, and the Tyranid troops we know and love/hate are actually adaptations to digest the biomass of planets to FEED the ships.
    The Shadow in the Warp, however, is perfectly explainable. It's not a 'massive predatory beast' in the Immaterium, it's the endless chittering of a massive swarm. The Shadow in the Warp seems to be an unintentional jamming effect that the massive psychic communications of the entire hive fleet produces. Remember, EVERY Tyranid is connected somehow. Think all the traffic of the Internet a million times over going through the Warp. It's not an entity, it's overwhelming nonsensical chaos to a human mind.

    • @Sorain1

      That matches with my understanding of the shadow. It's effectively a DDOS attack on warp communications.

    If I were writing a "True History" of the Tyranids, I would start with the "Old Ones" trying to move into another Galaxy ("Peekaboo" for this example, because Andromeda leads to Mass Effect comparisons... yeah no.) - but meeting another group of "Old Ones" in that Galaxy (Peekabooean Old Ones), the two groups coming into conflict, and the Tyranids being created by the "Peekabooean Old Ones" to fight against the "Milky Wayer Old Ones".
    I would do this SPECIFICALLY to leave open an option of introducing new factions from the Peekaboo Galaxy, as well as leaving open the option of Milky Wayers (Humans, Xenos, Chaos even) going to the Peekaboo galaxy and having to survive there. (allowing for a "soft reboot" of the 40k setting without actually rebooting the main 40k setting) And as a way to confirm that the Tyranids are a Crafted race like the Krorks - which I agree, is the only way that the Tyranids actually make sense. I would also push for this setting to be the main setting for *non-Tabletop games* (ie: Space Marine 3 takes place there) and leave that galaxy as effectively "Open License" for 3D models in the hopes that fans would focus their 3D printing aspirations (see: Major Mini's and the like) on Peekabooean units. 3D printing isn't going away, and IS going to chip into GW's market sooner rather than later, so I would be using this galaxy as a way to try to protect GW's current market in a more player-friendly way - go ahead, make the Peekabooean units all you want. Monetize them to your hearts desire - the only Canon units will be the ones in the non-TT games. But don't tread on the 40k setting.

    If you consider that starcraft was originally a 40k game along with nids having psyker abilities it makes sense that the old ones created them. Or that they evolved in a galaxy where psykers are able to. Perhaps the primary hive mind itself is an old one.

    Since the Nyds can't eat Necrons, and empty tomb worlds are avoided, I put the Old Ones theory is the nope zone.
    if they were engineered by something wanting to reset the Galaxy, and they were at war with the Necrons they would have considered them in their calculations.
    Now there is another similar theory floating out there, which hits the same issue, but not as badly.
    Tsara'noga the Outsider and Iash'uddra the Endless Swarm, are two c'tan (Star Gods) who we don't know their status.
    The thing with the Outsider, it still lives, it was never sharded, and it ate a bunch of other Star Gods and went mad and fled the Galaxy, some 65 million Years ago. On top of this in Universe hints have been stated that the Tyranids may be connected to it.

      I doubt it, because they are extragalactic in nature, but Kroot are local. Only way how I could tie it together is since Old Ones created almost all of the races, then maybe they took this trait from Kroot and gave it also to Tyranids

    I heard the nids original planned origin was that they were created by Malal as a final f you to the other chaos gods. However then Malal vanished from the lore and by the time they reintroduced him as Malice to the lore GW had forgotten their original plan for the nids and so they just became mystery invaders from another galaxy.

    I mean, if we want to ground the Tyranids in reality? Multi-cellular life. Every single cell in your body is it's own organism, and outside of a cancer situation, it works alongside the whole towards collective success. Tyranids are just that, with warp communications to let that easily scale up an awful lot. Considered like that, Tyranid, singular, is more accurate a term.
    As to their origin? I've got my own pet theory. The Old Ones are, in their own way, Gardner scientists. Each galaxy is the lab of a team trying to make life that stands out in some manner or other. It's a competition, and as such each team jealously guards their work until it's time to show off the finished product. There are a few sub-theories here.
    The first is that the Tyranids are another galaxy's team sabotaging the milky way team's work. Potentially sent in ignorance of the Old Ones being dead in the Milky Way.
    The second is that, another team saw things go wrong in the Milky Way lab, and made the Tyranids to clean up the mess. Be that the War in Heaven, or just seeing the Eye of Terror created and recognizing that as something the Milky Way team would never allow to happen.
    A third possibility is that, like in the Milky Way with how the War in Heaven went, someone tried to make a super predator and it got out of their control and is now spreading through the labs. (in this case, galaxies.)
    A fourth is that Tyranid's hive mind is essentially the Barn Cat, the pest control system the Old Ones civilization set up. It got wind of juicy food and came for the free ratburgers. This assumes that Old Ones literally don't consider the Tyranids a threat or big deal. (You generally don't worry about a Cat killing you, much less ending civilization now do you?)
    In general, the idea that the Tyranids started out being engineered, controlled and got loose (Life, eh, finds a way.) seems fitting to 40k as a setting to me. It's why I lean towards that theroy. Okay, and because Master of Orion 3 had only one good thing about it, the intro, in which it is noted that the challenge in creation (of life) lies not in the engineering, but rather in the ability to control ones progeny.

    Tyranids being created by the old ones is so boring because it removes the idea of terrible horrors existing outside of our galaxy and strenghtens the sense that there are actually very few factions in the setting. AI rebellion? Nah, caused by chaos. Intergalactic invasion? Nah, its just the old ones. As if there cannot exist anything in the whole universe that is not tied to one of the already known factions...

  • @kamaeq
    @kamaeq 7 днів тому

    Well, the biggest problem with making the only required video about the Tyranids is... (drumroll), the lore is just as fethed up about them as anything else. Is there one Hive Mind or does each swarm have its own Hive Mind. Remember the scale of the galaxy in this were the Imperium before the Dark Rift only occupied about .00001 of the stars in the galaxy at BEST. That ratio could be off, but it only shows that unoccupied systems being in the hundreds of thousands or millions for each Imperial world (also, remember this is BEFORE the rift split the Imperium). How many systems have the Tyranids consumed that the Imperium has no clue about and not enough resources to check?
    Different Hive Fleets stage "test wars" to tune their evolutionary ideas? The loser gets absorbed as part of the deal? Sounds a lot like hostile sub units or tribes of the Tyranids fighting and conquering each other for biomass.
    So, the ones we've seen are only the precursors or scouts of the main Tyranid body? Okay, but are they the groups that were smart enough to run first? Which would leave that big mass of follow on Hive fleets potentially short on resources (as they weren't smart enough to stock up and get out before the rush) that are tearing each other apart fighting for scarce resources.
    It actually better be this way, as otherwise the only thing left is Tyranids vs. Necrons, maybe with a bit of Chaos thrown in. Sure, we can talk out our shifting lore and fight our tabletop battles, because it may take thousands, tens of thousands or even hundreds of thousands of years for the last of the rest of the races to go down. but in the end, it will be everyone against the Tyranids.
    Heck, the Necrons could just pull up stakes and go intergalactic. Just go behind the Tyranids and salvage entire empty worlds for the resources they need. Trayzn already has enough samples for them to recreate most of the species in the universe.
