That's what you get with European gearboxs they are have clutches to help you get in and out of gear, like in your car. Here in America we don't have that. many of us use the engine to shift between gears, we only use the clutch to start or if you need to fine tune speed in very tight corners. you'll know if someone is not use to shifting because you'll hear the gears grind a horrible sound, if you ask me.

Is it my imagination or did this gearbox need quite a lot of force when changing gear? (it is a long time since I last drove a manual HGV but I don't think it took that much effort 🤔)
If truck is empty, start with 3rd gear. If you have load, start with 1 or 2 gear depending how many tonnes you got. Remember to shift top or bottom row first and then press in the clutch and move the gear stick lever. That way the gearbox has time to change top or lower gears before you press the clutch for a more efficient shift.
The fuel consumption of MAN TGX 18.440 with manual gearbox is approximately 29-30 liters / 100 km. MAN TGX 18.440 with manual gearbox has more consumption than new MAN TGX 18.500 with an automatic transmission.

1) yes. Bottom row 1,2,3,4 (0-20 km/h) and the top row 5,6,7,8 (20-85 km/h)
