      Here's the thing though, this is actual quality DLC that we *actually wanted,* since the kukri was the best character in FC4 outside of Pagan Min.

      Not that I know of, just ragging on FC4. The game was Ubi standard, but the design of the player kukri was always a favorite of mine.
      Everyone else in the game lied to you or otherwise manipulated you, but the kukri and Pagan did exactly what they meant to, every time.
      Something refreshing about that...

      Should be a workout video. Chopping wood with axe is pretty tough so just imagine doing it with a tool that's not intended for it like a kukri. Whew, Skall's gotta be hiding some massive back, shoulder, arm and chest muscles underneath those sweatshirts.

    • @Gakulon
      @Gakulon 6 років тому +3

      [Ecchi] Well, a kukri seems much better shaped for chopping. More of the weight is concentrated towards the end and tipped forwards, which would help with chopping. Obviously, you wouldn't use it to fell trees, but I think it would still be pretty useful

    • @janner2006
      @janner2006 6 років тому +1

      Is it though? The kukri has a handle so I can imagine that most of the weight is in that handle so you can swing it properly. And sure, it has pretty good wood chopping power, as demonstrated in the video, but that's compared to a sword, right? An axe is literally designed to chop wood since almost all of the weight is distributed to be in the blade, much more than the kukri.

    Hey Skal, love your channel! I practice Pekiti Tirsia Kali, which sometimes makes use of the kukri. Many of our kukri feature a small serrated section close to the hilt. My teacher told me that an old tradition of Filipino and Indonesian warriors was that if your blade was drawn and did not taste blood, you must give it some of your own. The serrated edge was added for that purpose. Maybe the developers of FarCry 4 added it to capture some of the traditions of that area of the world, rather than some practical function they thought it might have.

      Faithfuleddy Gaming Not really, no. A ginunting doesn't have the traditional shape compared to the other two whose styles remain true to the original. The Ginuntings and Panabas blades from TFW are not of traditional shape. If you look at thw traditional panabas, it's more of a sickle or kukri shape. A ginunting is more of a bolo shape, not inward curving like the kukri

    You should use the 10% mixture for ballistics gel. It more closely mimics flesh. 20% is an FBI standard for simulating bone too. 15% is a pretty good middleground too, but 10% is the kind you see on shows that test bladed weapons.

    Holy me, that thing is expensive! Whenever I see something here that looks like something I'd like, it's either out of my price range, requires over 50 euro for UPS international or both. Why can't I have nice things! (Probably could, if I looked at French or German manufacturers buuuut it's not Skall-approved so...)

    • @Dr_V
      @Dr_V 6 років тому +9

      300$ on a machete? Seriously? My most expansive one was 35$ and it's still in good shape after more than 5 years of intensive use (as a tool, I'm not playing with tatami mats or plastic noodles). This idea that good steel is expansive is more of a commercial myth, it does cost a bit more but we're talking about a few bucks, the rest is just decorations and clever advertising.
      If you want an expansive toy to brag about it's one thing, but if you just need a good tool for brush clearing, wood chopping or camping you can order a Tramontina for around 30$, it's not fancy but it's strong and useful, big old piece of 1070 steel with a simple and comfortable wooden handle.

    • @kidthorazine
      @kidthorazine 6 років тому +7

      yeah, this price only makes sense if you look at it from the perspective of a sword collector (and even then it's still overpriced), you can get something that's just as functional for like a tenth of what this costs.

    • @Dr_V
      @Dr_V 6 років тому +2

      BTW if you search for a good tool machete avoid "tactical" designs, especially those from Cold Steel, they're too thick, unwieldy and poorly balanced for use as a tool.
      Also if you're not used to work with a machete don't start with a Kukri or Bolo type, they're harder to control, pick a mid sized (16-18") Latin design.

    • @Dr_V
      @Dr_V 6 років тому +2

      Arsalan Anwari: we're talking about different things man. A machete has it's specific uses, if you want to chop some logs an axe is better, but if you need to clear brushes or saplings from a couple of acres of land the machete is far better at it. Also for hiking and camping outdoors the versatile machete can successfully replace the usual knife & axe set, saving weight and space in your backpack.
      Swords are more expansive because of the much more complex manufacture, they're mostly hand made and require a lot of time and skill, so yes, a good functional sword is often worth it's price.
      As for chef knives that's mostly advertising as well. Granted that hand made ones require a lot of work, but commercial models are made with industrial equipment and production costs are very low, they're expansive only because of marketing.

    • @kidthorazine
      @kidthorazine 6 років тому +2

      Swords are also expensive because quality sword reproductions are niche items and the manufacturers can get away with charging that much, that's why for example, you can get a functional katana for $100 and a pretty good one for $300 wereas with a longsword you will be paying at least twice that (probably even more on the low end) Also labor costs vary a lot by location as well, which is why you can find decent south american made machetes for $10 if you look around whereas a US or European one wont even be close to that cheap. It's also why the actual Nepalese manufactured Kukuris are way cheaper than this.

    do a recommended execution moves with the KH then.. should be fun.. wanna know how to "end him rightly" with a kukri..

    • @bujtorm
      @bujtorm 6 років тому +4

      The most obvious execution move with a kukri from the front is jamming it in the skull. The blade shape, weight and center of mass makes it almost as effective at that ask as a hatchet would be.
      From behind though, the inner curve of the blade just makes it the best throat slitter there is. Which is why I found the stabbing move in Far Cry ridiculous, when the throat cut was so goddamn obvious with such a weapon.

    • @warcrhymes251
      @warcrhymes251 6 років тому +2

      Matt Bradock Eh I think they just wanted to save the effort by reusing the Far Cry 3 execution. Ubisoft is known for being pretty lazy, after all.

      Hit them in the back of the head. That would probably do it...

    • @kidthorazine
      @kidthorazine 6 років тому +3

      "the inner curve of the blade just makes it the best throat slitter there is" Not really, the most efficient way to slit someones throat is to stab in from the side right at the jugular vein and push outwards in one smooth motion, dragging the blade across the front of the throat like you see in movies and whatnot takes too long since you have to cut all the way back to the jugular to guarantee a quick kill.

    • @Gakulon

    I can definitely appreciate the general-purpose effectiveness of this Kukri you showed off. I mean, are there other, alternative tools and weapons one can use to do those jobs more efficiently? Sure, definitely. But the fact that you can still perform those tasks AT ALL is where it shines, in my opinion.

    • @kidthorazine

      These things cost 427 Euros, that's not affordable to a lot of people, and when you can easily get something that's maybe not quite but almost as good for about 100 the price/performance ratio is pretty terrible.

      This N690 which is a good steel for small knives but not often in big ones. Even the shittiest military surplus will be repurposed truck springs 5160 steel great for a beefy chopper. This blade would be quite agile whereas 5160 makes for a hefty chop.
      I suggest Kailash blades, blacksmiths not machines. They have modern and traditional designs for half the price

    I'd love to see a video about Skall poking fun at a plethora of modern(ized) weapons that mainly exist because of cool factor, as well as lack of understanding of the original purpose (usually, weapons we see today evolved from mere farming tools).
    Personally, I'd show stuff like cutting grain with a "tactical kama," or digging dirt with a "tactical kunai."

    I have one of these. It's truly a superior quality bush tool...but not really designed for combat, per se. Overall, that design and the Austrian steel performs very well, (but I've always found that for ourdoor bush tools, forged high carbon tool steel is the best for edge retention). But the fact that this steel won't rust away in a damp or salt air environment is a huge advantage. So, I gave it an 9 out of 10 overall - (the only potential failure mode may occur in the handle - it can get brittle in cold temperatures).

    There is a fake version of this extrema ratio kukri. One way to tell is the word "made in italy" is spaced up close together "madeinitaly". And its on both sides. Nice to see u put a original one to use.

    I like the influx of throwing stuff lately. You should do a video or the effectiveness of throwing weapons of what can and can't be thrown or something.
