They look great! Very happy because I have some on order myself. Just as a bit of help to anyone who reads this comment, DO NOT skip using copper paste or similar when fitting these hinges. The galvanic corrosion that can occur between stainless steel and aluminium can be a right pain, especially if you live near the sea. I'd always recommend Tef Gel which is a Teflon-based paste that entirely eliminates the chemical process, I'm a Marine Engineer and we use it on everything. It's about £16 on ebay and lasts ages.
Instead of replacing the hinges, you can fit the steel plates that hook behind the door seal lip so removing the bolts securing the hinge to bulkhead does not free the door. You can also hammer ball bearings into the Torx bolt heads to make using a Torx tool or drilling the heads off impossible.
New hinges look great, have looked at them previously but were out of budget. Think you need to fit the Optimill windscreen washer jet next as need to see that fitted lol !
@@thedoctorsgarage I'm addicted to Landy... looking at your videos it is making me more desperate to do the jobs that need doing on ours. 2:38 from what I can see the bolts are just Torx pin / 6 lobe !? Pretty standard and not specially made for Optimill. There ARE various keyed and uncommon bolts available, but usually you have to register to buy them and the matching tools are expensive.
Hello Doctor hope your well I’ve started this job today having a nightmare with the bolt into the old spire clips it’s just spinning did you encounter this if so what was your fix Regards David
Silent coat is the 4mm one dodo matting is the super liner (not sure on thickness) I'm not sure how much of a difference it makes to driving yet but it sounds better when you shut the doors!
My bulkhead screws were rusted in !!! still didn’t stop them, coz they just cut though the hinges instead. These hinges would be very expensive to replace
Those front door hinges are no more secure than standard hinges. Thieves undo the front bolts, so hidden rear bolts do nothing. Those Torx bolts with the central pin are common, as are the tools to remove them. Far better to use regular Torx or Allen head bolts and hammer a ball bearing into the socket once tightened up - that will be a pig to remove to get a tool onto the bolt or to drill the head off. TMD sell plates that fit under the nuts on the inside of the door, the plates hooking around the inside of the door seal lip on the bulkhead so even if those bolts are removed, the door is still held to the A-pillar (the rear bolts through the door frame can be turned, but as soon as they become loosened, the nut inside, being nylon, will turn with the bolt and not undo, so the plates will be kept in place). Bonnet hinges are worth replacing, though.
Hi Nick the Optimill ones also lock to the bulkhead I didn’t want to go in to explicit detail here on UA-cam but you cannot remove the hinge by just unscrewing the bulkhead bolts!
Yes Ben- Silky smooth shutting to be fair and no play when I lift the end of the door up whilst open 👌🏻 Wind noise wise I’ve no idea because the whole thing makes so many different noises the last thing I can hear is the wind😂 Every time I see your name I Google M57 conversion again- would be a great project build

Yep, I'd rather go for standard Torx bolts with inserted ball bearing balls; can't drill them, can't chisel them. Next is the grinder of course but takes longer, makes more noise.
When I build a defender from bare chassis everything gets covered in aluminium anti seize and I make gaskets were two different mm etals meet and I use stainless bolts too
Great video to help prevent your doors being stolen. I do think the front door hinges could have been designed like the rear hinges, with no exterior bolt heads to drill out/grind off, this would make it more difficult to steal the doors. Good to see the novelty of tapping the sound deadening, once it is fiited hasn't worn off😂👍
Haha always giving it a good knock then trying to find a bare panel to check how much of a difference 😂 the front hinges have a pretty clever mechanism I don’t want to share here that stops you from being able to take the hinges off even if you drilled them out the bulkhead which is good
